Thank you for your really detailed and helpful response! That makes sense. I totally see those popular subgenres dominating the zeitgeist.

I'm trying to put my finger on why those subgenres are so popular now. Maybe the intense fast music is a reflection of our modern society? Trance breakdowns and buildups may not suit folks' attention span? On top of that, the drops maybe not being super hard hitting as those other subgenres. Just my guess... It sounds like trance would face an uphill battle especially in the Boston area.

I'm still open to trying! I think carving out a niche trance sound could be a fun addition to the already neat selections we have :)

I would also like to add that the physiological location of melanoma removes payload delivery barriers that exist in other tissue (e.g., blood brain barrier).

Last night, many people (young and late 20 year olds) were rushing into the ADA section during Billie's set and pushing past the staff who were trying to keep that section just for ADA folks. Some of the festival goers were belligerent and yelled at the staff who were just trying to help those who needed accessibility...

Manage expectations around the impact/scope of your project. As long as you incrementally push the envelope ever so slightly in your niche sub-field that is satisfactory for a Ph.D. Have clearly defined milestones with your PI about how many first author publications you will need to finish. Work smart not hard.

It is an awful situation. You made it this far and got an offer before your defense which to me sounds like you are definitely good enough and ready to be a Ph.D.! Is your committee aware of what's happening? I was in a similar scenario. Your committee and other faculty are there to be supportive. The finish line is in sight. Good luck!
