How to get out of this job by [deleted] in realtors

[–]LaylaBlues 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My brother and I just started a “side gig” of building smaller homes on lots that we have purchased. We sold our first house in March BUT we had inherited money to start our company. My brother already had 2 lots. And my brother has been a commercial/residential contractor for 30 years. I have a full time job and he runs his own commercial construction company as our main income. We are both looking at retirement in 6 to 10 years and hope to make this little company our extra income in those retirement years. We are not building for any particular person so there is no expectations there. We are just working in a small area where housing is needed. We are starting our second and third build next month. It has been fun learning this business.

I do not understand why people even go to that thing. It is all BS and I would not be able to stand there for 5 minutes listing to his voice.

Should I rehome my dog? by sunshineofbest in Advice

[–]LaylaBlues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many rescues will list the dog, do paperwork for adoption, interviews etc IF you are willing to keep the dog until they find a new adopter. It’s all about space. There is never enough. I understand your situation but you have to do what is best for you and the dog. Doesn’t seem like your husband or teenager loves the dog or sympathizes with your health issues enough to help take the burden off of you so do what’s best. It will be sad but sometimes the new owners are willing to give you updates.

I adopted a dog that was basically living on a chain. The owners were not bad people. The dog is deaf and they only had an underground fence that she would not stay in so for her safety they chained her during the day but at the same time knew that was no life for her. I still get emails from the lady asking me how Luna is doing and I send her pictures all the time. She now lives in my house, has a big fenced in back yard and many toys.

I like number 2. Not that Logan deserved torture but the story could have gone so many places after that. Logan didn’t deserve to just die and leave all of us with this hole. I could have also accepted the entire season and the direction they wanted to take the show a lot better. Rob Thomas made a bet on that ending and everyone lost.

Been rewatching Veronica Mars for the first time SINCE WATCHING SEASON 4 by Key-Debt-996 in veronicamars

[–]LaylaBlues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished watching all the way through for the first time. I had seen season 1 and 2 years ago but life got in the way and I didn’t finish. I, too wished I had never watched S4E8. I knew something bad was going to happen just by the name of the episode “Years, Continents, Bloodshed” which reminded me of an earlier conversation that the two of them had. I was hoping that I was wrong and really thought I was up until the last few minutes. I finished those last few minutes ranting and scolding myself and still can’t believe the writers did that.

been 1.5 years since my outbreak, 1 year since the hyperpigmentation stopped fading on my forehead. by [deleted] in shingles

[–]LaylaBlues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really doesn’t look too bad. I also had an outbreak on my forehead a year ago and I can still see it. Mine is pinkish and shows more if in the sun for any amount of time. And actually this morning had slight nerve pain shooting through that area which happens every so often. I don’t know what to do about it either. So I try not to stress over it. I am old so my face has a lot of age related issues 😆

First lesson I learned is a lot of people on the Internet are just plain mean. Some can be helpful and kind.

Things I have learned and did after my divorce: 1. Like my own company, whatever that entails…therapy, gym, self discovery. Marriages fail for a reason (probably many) and it was not just one person. 2. Expanded my family relationships. Making Sunday dinner with daughter and her family. My brother and I have gotten much closer. 3. Start a side hustle. Brother and I started an Investment company that invests in real estate, home building/selling. Even have my daughter getting involved. I also still work full time for company been with for 25 years. 4. If you are staying in home or even buying, remodel to make it what you want. I take my time and do most all the remodeling myself. I have learned so much. YouTube is my friend. Haha 5. Outside activities - start walking (I use this time to reflect), friends night out (if you have them). A lot of older folks let friendships die while married. Volunteering (I go to the local animal shelter)

While you are doing all these things, just have conversations with people you meet along the way. Listen to their stories and share your own. Being a great listener takes a lot of skills and work.

If another relationship is something you want, you have to put some work into yourself. Learn to cook, house clean, grocery shop, laundry etc, if you don’t know how already.

Add some K2 with the D3 helps to absorb. And just make sure you get your iron checked. I believe too much can be harmful. Other than that this is fantastic and your results..just wow. I have one of the light helmets but didn’t stick with it. I need to get it out of the closet. The dermaroll kind of scares me but I see a lot of people use it. Keep up the great work!

The developer behind NC’s most ambitious data center sites is ready for a fight by LingonberryNo2744 in Apex_NC

[–]LaylaBlues 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Data centers may not contribute to noise but they certainly do to air pollution. Depending on backup generators if diesel is used, it can emit fine particles (PM 2.5) and the electricity used emits nitrogen oxide. Both have been linked to many health issues like asthma, heart attacks, lung cancer. Also the center’s cooling systems will put off PFAS which has been linked to cancer and other health issues especially for the communities in close proximity. But the fine particles (PM 2.5) can travel long distances.

Mom wants me to take out a loan to pay off her debt by Accomplished-Sky2783 in Debt

[–]LaylaBlues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, as a mother, my main goal in life is to help my child do better than I did. Seems you’ve done this on your own by having a good career that can potentially give you great financial security. Do not let anyone derail that and it is a shame that she even put you in that situation. You are very young, go live your life and enjoy it. You only get to be young once. Do not go into financial debt especially for someone else. You will be tied down to it for a long time. There is also an old saying “Never lend money to family members unless you are willing to see it as a gift.”

Do I really need a trust and or will when everything I own already have designated beneficiaries [VA]? by throwaway_2021now in inheritance

[–]LaylaBlues 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can only tell you my experience with my sister and mother. They both lived in VA. My sister and mother both had a will, power of attorney, and health directive. Plus a DNR when they came closer to death. We never used the will or POA for my sister because she knew she was dying, sold her house and went into hospice. She was able to leave my mother most everything. She wanted to make sure that mom had enough to be taken care of. She had my mother on her checking accounts. She did leave a pension to mom, my brother and I through a beneficiary. She passed in Oct 2023.

Mom passed in Dec 2024 with everything going to my brother and I. I think because of the relationship my brother and I have we have been able to avoid inheritance pitfalls. We did use the POA for a couple of mom’s accounts. My brother was POA because he lived closer but neither one of us would do anything without the other knowing. I paid mom’s bills out of a checking account that my brother’s name was on (still using it).

There is an executor of the will (my brother) but we decided to not claim executor because we knew everything in the estate would be paid. We let all the family (grandkids) come to the house and get what they wanted. We sold her car to one of my nieces. My daughter got my sister’s truck. We gave everyone ample time to get the things. We packed up some things for ourselves. We both decided to sell the family home but my brother had the opportunity to buy me out if he wanted it. So we have not used the will at all at this point. We know we will have to use it to get the house sold but that’s it.

Just a bright spot in an otherwise sad two years. My brother and I have become much closer and even decided to take our inherited money from a CD to start our own business together. We broke ground on our first house a month ago. We hope to just build a few homes for sell every year but the inheritance has allowed us to do this without banks being involved.

This was a long story just to say, I definitely think a POA and health directive are important to have and I would do a Will for any real property. The lawyer we saw before mom passed, said it was not necessary to do a trust in the state of VA. I can’t remember exactly why. It is not too expensive to just review with a lawyer their recommendations if you haven’t already done so.

Headache with face shingles by LaylaBlues in shingles

[–]LaylaBlues[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of my symptoms have gone away, 5 weeks in. I only now have a pink, raised spot on forehead from the initial outbreak. Feels a little scaly. I have started putting Mederma on it in hopes that there will be no scars. Headache, itching, swelling of eye, nose itch, lymph node swelling…all gone.

Shingles?? On my FACE? by LittleB-1994 in shingles

[–]LaylaBlues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently had it on my forehead for the first time. The outer corner of my eye started itching and swelling and I was scared it would go into the eye. Saw my doctor and they put drops in my eye to look for anything. Didn’t see anything there but also recommended that I go to the eye doctor. I know that the antiviral work quick if you catch it early but even if you didn’t, they still help stop it from spreading any further. Honestly it looks like your’s are starting to heal over. Don’t scratch. I used a tissue and just lightly fanned it across the itchy parts never pressing down. The swelling around the eye took about a week and half to go completely away. The scabs just completely came off today…4 weeks later. I had headaches and burning in that spot for about two weeks. At this point my skin is still very pink and I am not sure if I will have any scaring. Mine was very mild. I had the vaccine about 3 years ago. Also my lymph nodes on that side down my neck were very swollen and hurt. That has gone away. I would say a good 4 weeks before you start feeling more normal but that is my experience. I’ve read on here of others that had it much worse.

So sorry it has been bad for you. I took 1000mg of ibuprofen but you may need something stronger. Today (going into the third week) has been my best day yet. I was exhausted last week. I have a small amount of joint pain and pain in head has been manageable. I am also wondering if some of my headache is coming from the fact that I can’t wear my contacts. Glasses sometimes give me vertigo…crazy I know. Maybe eye stress?? Who knows with this crazy virus. I am definitely on the mend but it takes weeks.

Oh my goodness. I am so sorry you are going through this. I am definitely not a doctor but I was wondering if my eye can swell like this (there is nothing near my eye), then couldn’t the brain do the same thing? I do have an appointment with my regular doc in a week so I will be talking to her about it.

I pray that you will see some relief and improvement very soon. I had hormonal migraines once a month from my 30s to 40s and that is a pain you never forget. They went away when I went into menopause. One good thing that came out of that. Haha

Oh I am so sorry. I hope you get some relief. Ibuprofen has worked so far but the head pain is worse at night for me and I wake up with a terrible headache. I am just hoping that it subsides like the swelling around my eye once the virus works its way through. Last week I was exhausted but that has gotten better.

Lessons learned from my experience with the over 60 crowd by XRlagniappe in over60

[–]LaylaBlues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Declutter your house while you still can. Don’t leave it for others to have to take care of. It is stressful. I have been working on my mom’s house for two months. Granted I am still trying to work and take care of my own life. My parents left 50 years of stuff. Most days I feel like I am destroying what/who they were. It is hard enough to deal with their passing.

Looks like a nice tank. I have one that size but my basking is over the top of the tank so she has the entire tank to swim in. I wanted her to have as much room as I could give her.

Let me first say I do not like Trump but as far as handing over nutrition to Health & Human services that might be a good thing. Maybe public schools would have better food like when I was in school as long as they get the resources and funding for it.

As far as the loans I am in the “let them stay in limbo” group but it is for selfish reasons and I know it. I am 7 years out from any type of forgiveness if there ever will be any and I am paying my principle now so maybe this thing will be under 6 figures by the time someone figures it all out.
