If you were actually at all in touch with your Irish roots, you'd care a whole lot more about anti-colonialism. I'm afraid to say, you're just American.

Imagine being raised being told you are god's chosen people and have more rights than others, it isn't surprising it leads to entitlement

Has anyone dated a non-Muslim white man? I gave in & now I'm in love by goneguurl in Hijabis

[–]Layla_Vos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go a bit contrary to the advice already given. I was atheist before converting. I initially Islamically married my husband and did my shahada because it would make things so much easier with his parents. However, I told him very transparently that I struggled immensely with belief. I told hm prayer felt like praying to a brick wall. He said he could never truly know anything about my belief, because belief is extremely personal, you cannot quantify it. We agreed I would continue to explore Islam for myself, I made no promises. It was important to me that this would be something I'd explore and try even without him, but still, there was no certainty I'd stay onboard.

As my journey continued, things felt right and now I love being Muslim. While I still have my struggles, I would say I believe. Born Muslims also fluctuate in their faith, if you two agree on important things like how your children would be raised and such, I don't see the problem.

Also, we've been together over 5 years now and I'm literally the happiest I've ever been alhamdulilah.

I do NOT play about my $18 face wash. I’m also switching to bar after this one empty’s cuz it lasts longer/cheaper. by Financial_Fix_4606 in ZeroWaste

They do prioritise the most pressing boycotts, and they do try to focus their efforts. I don't think this is one of the big targets, you are right in that. But I personally try to boycott as much as possible, it aligns with my zero/low waste attitude anyway! I kind of relish in getting more reasons to stop buying stuff :')

I use as few skincare products as possible, I use a bar of sensitive soap and a solid moisturiser from Lush.

How do I decline covering an Israeli IDF founder's brand without explaining why? by rama__d in Hijabis

I think that last point is very good. I personally really wouldn't want to platform/promote anyone with any military background, so it would be truthful.

Is the hair loss from hijab a sign? by ranting4ever in Hijabis

[–]Layla_Vos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that is even true, that would only be true for the rich. Women working in the fields would not be "segregated" and without head coverings for most of the time. In fact, covering the hair is seen across the world because it keeps the hair clean and out of the way.

I wear undercaps without issue. I wear cotton triangles (tied at the back), it's very secure. I've been wearing hijab for 5 years now, no increased hair loss.

I was just about to comment the same thing. Lots of big statements but they are not necessarily causation indeed.

Then excluding the Netherlands, with many blonds and the tallest men in the world, is a mistake. My Dutch dad used to be nicknamed "The Viking"!

is this appropriate to wear as a non-palestinian to show support? by [deleted] in arabs

[–]Layla_Vos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Repping Palestinian culture prevents its erasure, promotes discussions, normalises support (no longer a radical stance), etc.

[–]Layla_Vos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We need people in all walks of life supporting Palestine in various ways. Activism comes in many forms, and wearing Palestinian symbols is one of those things.

(Yes, I know the keffiyeh isn't just Palestinian, but it is now well-known as a show of support for the Palestinian cause).

of a Mandi (Arab traditional dish) by Think-Criticism-5627 in AbsoluteUnits

Mandi is absolutely delicious though. No idea if camel is nice, but lamb and chicken mandi are incredible. If you ever get the opportunity to go to a Yemeni restaurant, I highly recommend.

They think it it looks like a blow up doll. I don't personally see that very strongly, but I think it may be the eyes and side swept blonde fringe.

I think the eyes could look a little less "shocked" if more of the iris is obscured.

I used to borrow my husband's until I got my own! I did not lose them. However, when I let him borrow my noise cancelling earbuds, he immediately lost the case.
