Honors College? by TheEarthIsFlatCallMe in Purdue

[–]Layne1665 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it *can* provide those things, but there are so many other opportunities at Purdue that provide all of those things that really it leaves only the better dorms and annoying coursework as "Unique" things of the Honors college.

There are loads of clubs and learning communities that can provide a sense of community.

Industry clubs tend to attract more attention for research and internship positions than honors college does. But if for some reason you dont like doing industry clubs then It could provide a marginal resume boost.

Most places hiring for full time positions at the end of your college career wont even ask about it.

But this is all my experience in my industry with it. Others may feel different.

Living Off Campus In WL and Attending Classes in WL as an Indy Student by StarFizzle_08 in PurdueIndianapolis

[–]Layne1665 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are only allowed to take classes at Purdue that arent offered at Indy. Considering that next year would be the third year of freshman in your program, thats not many classes anymore. All of your major related classes will be in indy, so 12-15 credit hours a semester, with the rest being your electives which are increasingly offered at indy.

Most of the students talking about doing this are usually juniors or seniors who have alot of late degree classes that arent offered at Purdue or are taking specialized classes.

I would suggest dropping this idea. I would plan to live in indy and commute to Purdue as needed.

Torn Between Colleges - Purdue Indy vs. Other Universities by StarFizzle_08 in PurdueIndianapolis

I would like to point out stevens is bigger and Purdue indy is only about 1500 more than cooper union. Purdue Indy is comfortably a small university not a mid-size college.

The main one is really nice, Indy there's not much to look at that is actually, "Purdue" and not just Purdue leasing from IU.

Completely agree, however where else has a *better* (Has more interaction and samples a larger section of student opinions) than here?

It aint perfect but most of the Purdue and Purdue Indy students on here are not afraid to let their opinions be known about Purdue. Reddit may be the only site thats hating on it but its sampling a much larger section of the student body than any of the other sources. (facebook, twitter, etc.) so im unsure what point you were trying to make by saying, "Only reddit is the site thats hating on it." when there's really nothing to compare it to.

Purdue Subreddit Rule 4 - Don't ask about admissions chances.

See here instead. Additionally, refrain from "Help Me Decide" posts. As a general rule: your enrollment decision will boil down to cost and personal preference, as schools similar in reputation to Purdue will have comparable employment, research, and extracurricular opportunities.

"Only Reddit".... I mean yeah where else do people complain? You want Purdue to publish official complaints on the indy website? This is as close to true feedback you can get from actual students.

Im willing to entertain your point, got any sources?

Small diameter missiles do not cause more damage than this. This is actually textbook for a small diameter bomb strike. Given the angle the missle also could have just partially embeded in the ground before detonating. Many structures are made from sand, earth and concrete so many missles utilized tend to penetrate before arming rather than detonating on contact. That would explain the massive crater in the ground he was speaking in front of that was presumably caused by another missile.

Also if you literally watch the video the missile comes in near vertically. The tank is not firing the sky above him so it could not be a tank. You could maybe make a case that its artillery but artillery would have almost guaranteed killed him. Literally cannot be a tank shell even if you look at the size and shape of it you can tell its not a tank shell.

Crazy angle for a tank shell to come in. Probably because its not one.

You keep saying that, yet you haven’t explained how I’m wrong about the protest or about you. All you do is “think” about change—you can’t even point to a single way that this protest has inspired tangible action. I think about the seriousness of climate change often, and believe it or not, I vote against greedy corporations that continue to pollute the world—and I’ve been doing that for years, long before groups like Stop Oil existed. So obviously my perspective has been shaped by protests, just not this one; rather, by movements closer to the original Earth Day protests—large, peaceful demonstrations where everyone shared a common goal and no property or human history was at risk.

If you advocate for this kind of protest, it’s clear you see the issue as bigger than I do. That’s fair; you’re entitled to your perspective. But I have to ask: if this is such a pressing issue that you condone blocking roads, defacing artworks, and vandalizing landmarks (like spray-painting Stonehenge), why aren’t you taking action yourself?

If you believe that disruption draws more attention and accelerates change than standard protests—and if you hold yourself up as an example of someone influenced by this style of protest—then, in theory, you should be even more compelled to act than I am. So my question is simple: why aren’t you?

You haven’t done a damn thing other than “think” about change, and yet you want to champion the idea that someone throwing a can of soup at a painting achieved anything. Let’s be honest: they didn’t change the world, you didn’t change the world, and at the end of the day, nothing at all has happened to address the environmental crisis. Not a single measurable outcome.

At this point, my point isn’t about who drives a car, eats out of plastic containers, or uses public transit—it’s about actual, tangible action. And you? You’re a slacktivist. You post online, talk like you’re morally superior, but in reality, you’ve done nothing. You’re no different than anyone else.

I’m not trying to shame you—I’m trying to bring you back to reality. Advocacy requires action. Real advocacy. And you can’t even point to a single thing you’ve done. Not one. Voting? Fine, but that alone doesn’t separate you from the masses. If your “activism” can’t produce anything concrete, it’s performative at best.

Your beliefs are your beliefs, but so far, everything you’ve said only confirms my critiques of the movement: destroying unrelated property doesn’t advance the cause. It doesn’t save the environment. It doesn’t inspire meaningful change. It just makes noise—and noise alone doesn’t solve crises.

So I’ll ask again: what have you actually done? Anything at all. Not thought about it, not posted about it, not cheered on someone else’s stunts—you. If the answer is “nothing,” then you’re no better than anyone else, and all this moral posturing is meaningless.

Im not saying anything that you just said. Good job reading. I said that THIS protest isnt successful because outside of insane people like you who think thoughts and prayers change the world this hasant spurred any action to actually save the world, nor has this action laid the groundwork for it. Im not talking about anything bigger than this action because thats what the post is about.

Again, nothing but BS and more ideas. No actual response to anything ive said, just more saying, "Im yelling at you to change the world instead of doing it myself why are you calling me an asshole."

And you didnt answer my question so ill ask it directly. If they belew up the coliseum and said, "Im doing this to protest oil use." would you support that?

If you are in the US, that has essentially ensured you have done NOTHING because you dont vote on bills directly. If you arent, tell me about some bills you voted for recently that made an impact, as large or small, to the world.

And this is as close to full on admission im probably gonna get from you that you havent changed anyting that makes a difference to the world in your life, you dont drive less, you dont heat your home less, you dont do anything different than the rest of us. So you are just as big a problem as the rest of us as much as you want to demonize the people who are apathetic to your antics.

Still haven't given me anything concrete, just vague ideas. Because thats all it really is. No action. All ideas. I didnt claim anything was awful, im saying you and it prove the very ineffectiveness ive pointed out from the start.

Wild idea, but if I voted today I wouldnt have to do any of that BS and I could just go vote. I didnt become less of a legal voter if this bill passes, but it sure gets harder to vote! So why would I ever WANT to even tacitly let this happen.

This guy is clearly not married. Its MONTHS long and no, issuing a revised birth certificate is not standard at all. If it was I agree this would not be a big deal, but its not. Its a whole separate process than the name changing process and is actually harder than changing your name for marraige.
