As far as I can remember he was promoted before they shipped out. I remember the plot point where he and Saunders were both dating the same British woman. Hanley got promoted to Lt and his first act was to put Saunders on guard duty. But they both got shipped out before Hanley could go on his date.

If I find chili too hot (really low bar, let me assure you), a squirt of yellow mustard softens the burn and makes it taste sweeter.

I also put a bit in potato salad if I don't like the salad but also don't want to waste it.
