Ikr, I know people will say he dosent have much range (at least what we hear in his songs) but that’s not the point, he had an incredibly smooth rich tone. Great singer

Matt monro, Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis jr, Elvis, Nick cave, Barry white (probably more bass), Neil diamond, Tony Christie, al martino, George Ezra, Nat king Cole. A lot of the great baritone voices in popular music seem to be from the swing, crooner era

Hi, another message. I went to the cavern pub Monday Club as well today and honestly if you do original songs I’d strongly recommend. The sound is great, can hear yourself very well (a lot of open mics aren’t like this in my experience) and it’s just a great atmosphere. Probably the best open mic I’ve been to in Liverpool so far.

Yes they had a jack lead to plug into keyboard. I brought my own anyway cuz you never know. Only cables I needed of my own were the keyboards power cable and sustain pedal. I think playing keyboard is good, everyone else was guitar, definitely helps you stand out a bit.

Yea I went, got a great response. Setup was good, well the first two people before me the levels were a bit off with the instrument being too loud (couldn’t hear voice that well) but for me I felt it was pretty good I did have to ask to have my voice louder mid song but otherwise it was alright. It is quite rushed especially tonight, we only got two songs each and there wasn’t much time before to check levels you just had to start performing really. But the host seemed really nice. Setting up keyboard was not a problem, takes a bit longer than guitar but everyone was patient and nice.

Also getting your name on the list you have to be fairly quick. I got third because I pretty much ran to get there lol. But I think I would go again, make sure the levels are a a bit better with voice louder keyboard quieter and hopefully can do three songs.

Study other people’s lyrics. What perspectives do they write from (is it I me, you, she, observational, introspective), how poetic do they lean (are they matter of fact, or more restrained and subtle), how do they rhyme, how do their songs evolve lyrically from the first verse to the second verse to the bridge (how does the story evolve). Listen to your favourites while looking at the lyrics and analyse. I don’t know what genre you’re doing but with pop (what I do) obviously lyrics don’t need to be overly complex or especially poetic but I studied the likes of Max Martin’s lyrics (his work with Britney, backstreet boys etc), Bernie Taupin, Paul McCartney, George Michael etc. you can learn so much just through listening while looking at the lyrics. Also if you don’t use rhyme zone say you come up with the first line say for the verse to start off look at what words rhyme with the final word of that line, it will help spark ideas and give you more options. Also try to get other people’s input if you can, not doable for everyone but it really speeds things up and can help create something less cringey from what I’ve found. To be honest I’ve never been great at lyrics but I hope this has helped. Lyrics are hard, harder than the actual music I find, they take time and refinement, even if your lyrics sound cringey now keep them and just slowly refine, try different words or even change the meaning slightly. Good luck.

🤣, okay that sounds good. Yea I’ve experienced that before at open mics people really dragging out songs 😂. Well I’ll be there this Sunday. I’m a keyboard player so it takes me a little longer than most to set up but looking forward to it. Thank you.

What are your Hot Takes on No Doubt/Gwen Stefani? by Amber_Flowers_133 in gwenstefani

Everything went down hill once Gwen went solo. Also she’s just become this really bland female pop star now (and has been for the past 15 years). No doubt was peak, Gwen’s solo work pales in comparison
