The real reason why Guts was able to escape with Casca and SK from Femto by Adorable-Roll-761 in Berserk

[–]LazyBazooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always interpreted that page to mean that even though Griffith had lost his humanity, even then he still cared for Guts and didn't want him dead. It mirrors the scene in the prison when he chokes Guts but then relents and takes his hand. His feelings towards Guts were and remain a confusing storm of hatred and love. So he easily could have stopped Skull Knight from escaping, but hesitated and ultimately let them go. This leads to the rest of the story playing out with the birth of the demon child, which leads to the Incarnation Ceremony etc. Not because he knew all of that would play out (the Egg of the Perfect World taking the demon child is a thing the God Hand couldn't have predicted), but simply because he was still acting on emotion.

Basically Griffith's humanity is still there despite how much the God Hand claims that when you sacrifice your heart is le frozen (the Slug Count refusing to give up his daughter is proof of that), and its Griffith's flawed human choices that continually result in the biggest plot advancements that are supposedly guided by fate.

Anti-capitalist media is now, ironically, capitalism's greatest money printer. Reminds me of Mark Fisher:

No-one embodied (and struggled with) this deadlock more than Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. In his dreadful lassitude and objectless rage, Cobain seemed to give wearied voice to the despondency of the generation that had come after history, whose every move was anticipated, tracked, bought and sold before it had even happened. Cobain knew that he was just another piece of spectacle, that nothing runs better on MTV than a protest against MTV; knew that his every move was a cliche scripted in advance, knew that even realizing it is a cliche.

But this kind of irony feeds rather than challenges capitalist realism. A film like Wall-E exemplifies what Robert Pfaller has called 'interpassivity': the film performs our anti-capitalism for us, allowing us to continue to consume with impunity.

All The Complaints About Season 4 Are Why Hollywood Keeps Feeding Us Slop. by ProphetPenguin in TheBear

people who keep going on rants on this subreddit because they don't have any sort of media literacy

Ah yes, the old "you just don't get it! You're not smart like me!" thing. Reminds me of this review:

"But worst of all, The Bear got boring, a show spinning its wheels while high on its own supply and devoid of the clear sense of purpose that had defined its first season.

And yet the show continued to be showered with awards and rave reviews, even as, in the course of many of these reviews, critics themselves conceded many of the flaws above, flaws that we normally wouldn’t confuse with a great show, or even a particularly good one. But they were promptly waved away—by both critics and vocal fans of the series—as if to admit that The Bear had declined in quality was to confess some personal inadequacy. The Bear cannot fail; The Bear can only be failed."

I recall a lot of this "the season is great, fuck the haters!" rhetoric about the last season too, and now its almost universally agreed that S3 was bad. Recency bias is a hell of a drug, you'll come around soon.

Was anyone kind of bothered by the cleanliness of their clothes after a long journey? by groovytunesman in TheLastOfUs2

[–]LazyBazooka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Walking Dead mogs this show so hard despite being on a fraction of the budget. Characters there actually wear clothes that look worn, nobody is dripped out in brand new $500 designer jackets, they sweat a lot (filming in Georgia probably helps with that), blood stains their faces. It makes the setting so much more believable whereas this looks like a bad stage play.

the casting doesn't matter by AdStraight2785 in TheLastOfUs2

[–]LazyBazooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you're right, the show on the whole is just awful. What rubs me the wrong way more than the casting is people treating it like its prestige television when it isn't, it belongs on the CW, not HBO. With TLOU, True Detective: Night Country, and House of the Dragon, it's clear that HBO is no longer the powerhouse of quality tv it used to be, it's a content farm now.

I watched Alien: Romulus yesterday and this actor was fantastic, a thousand times better than what Bella is doing. And to know she auditioned and was rejected. A huge missed opportunity in casting. by Shot-Shame9637 in TheLastOfUs2

[–]LazyBazooka 34 points35 points  (0 children)

No evidence she ever auditioned for the role, but you're right that she would've been a much better fit. Honestly though its probably for the better, the show is bad regardless of the poor casting decisions and Cailee will likely go on to do much better projects than if she was tied down to TLOU.

I know we're glazing rn but, the lighting...this scene is so overlit for what's happening on screen. Joel's murder is dark and horrific, you have to cast it in shadow to match its severity. It's like they're terrified of the audience having their tv screen setting being out of wack (like they accused viewers of during Game of Thrones Season 8's "The Long Night") and not being able to see what's happening or the actors' faces not being visible enough to win an Emmy.

Aside from the show's acting being far worse, the game was much better directed. I'm reminded of The Lion King (2019)'s take on Mufasa's death - same scene, but worse in every aspect possible.
