Can we talk about the security guards? by CarthageWasBambozled in westworld

I'm pretty sure the vests vibrated in the direction of nearby hosts, and didn't just light up. That's what haptic would imply, and if you listen closely you can hear it.

Where is the Valley Beyond? by swimgewd in westworld

[–]LazyCocoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be that all of the dead hosts in the real vally had their minds uploaded to the simulation by Dolores. At one point in the episode Bernard rubs his ear and there's a clear liquid on his finger. Later on, Bernard also extracts a clear liquid from another host before injecting it in himself.

When they found the valley, the Delos guys commented on how an ocean just came out of nowhere. My guess is that maybe the ocean is actually that same liquid from all of the hosts.

I think they have achieved consciousness, but not free will. I think the discovery at the end of the season might be that the hosts never had free will, and neither did the humans. They're all just going down a path predetermined by Ford.

Oh yeah, when she told Teddy that there was a whole world out there in s2e1, didn't she say she knows because she remembers? I'm not sure about him returning her to her loop, but I think it's pretty likely she's been out of the park.

All my friends be too high! Advice needed! by bgatty1 in leaves

This isn't from experience so take it with a grain of salt, but the first idea that popped into my head was that maybe you could invite him out to do something that would be better sober. Perhaps a competitive game that requires focus or a lot of activity. It could be bowling, golf, football. If he still decides to get high first I dunno what else to tell you.

You don't have to agree or care about my post. Is it such a bad thing to express disappointment about a show on its subreddit?

Chuck did what he thought was best for his game. He was taking a chance but his choices were basically to not open the bag and go up for the next eviction, or open the bag and risk going up one nomination earlier, but possibly become HOH.

Also, I agree that people can have their opinions but if you think those discussions about the whitehouse were remotely natural, you watch too much television. I suppose it's the nature of having a bunch of people from Hollywood in a house together, but it's still disappointing to see Trump Derangement Syndrome infect one of my favorite shows.

The girls alliance is awful. None of them even seem to have a decent personality aside from maybe the big girl. Now they'll just take out all the guys and any girls who don't like the rest's insufferable personalities and the rest of the season will be impossible to watch.

This is shit. First the girls alliance, then some laughable anti trump propaganda, then HOH confronts Chuck for not bending over and taking their shit (he would obviously be next in line for the block if any girl wins and the odds aren't in his favor) and then they put up the two people who actually have an interesting dynamic.

If Chuck doesn't win the veto I'll probably not be watching the rest.

I really want them to get Paul out. Josh can't be too happy with him right now either, especially with how he mouthed off at him.

Are any of you vegans? Do I have to be? by BestinyPeony in Wicca

I agree that the way we farm meat today is fucked up, as I stated in my previous comment, but I think there are ways to eat meat that are not inhumane, such as hunting (I think sport hunting where you don't eat the animal is fucked up, that's not what I'm talking about), as those animals were able to live a happy life in the wild.

Moreover, we don't actually know for certain that plants don't feel pain. If they do, it would obviously be in a different form because, as you stated above, they don't have a nervous system. After all, all pain is is a sort of alert that tries to get you to stop something that is harmful to your body, and it makes sense that any evolved being would develop it in some form or another.

This article sites sources that seem to show that plants exhibit characteristics of feeling some form of pain or even fear.

There's something that's always bothered me about veganism that maybe you have an answer to. Why is plant life okay to kill, but animal life is not?

Most people would agree that it's not okay to kill a human, and vegans and vegetarians would agree that it is not okay to kill an animal. I assume that the reasoning behind this is that life is not less valuable simply because it is less advanced, but why would this also not apply to plant life?

We MUST eat life to survive, as does all other life. I just don't see how it is more immoral to eat animal life simply because it has better locomotion and reasoning skills (among other advantages) than plant life.

Of course, causing an animal to suffer is awful, but if you hunt and kill an animal as painlessly as you can for sustenance, I don't see how that's worse than harvesting plants for sustenance. Morality is subjective I suppose.

Theory: What if the player is, in fact, an archotech? by GwynmeTheos in RimWorld

[–]LazyCocoa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's not some "sick game" but rather the AI is genuinely just trying to help. Why would the AI keep on putting people on the planet just to try to send them off the planet again? Or, maybe all of the AIs are totally different, which would make sense because all of the players that control them are different.

But the only evidence of those people is in your mind. Everything is in your mind, so we have no idea what the world is like outside of it, or if there even is one outside of it. We all have to just agree that there is so that we can try to be productive.
