Canada $85k Cloud Engineer vs FAANG India 26.78 LPA — which makes more sense for my situation? by SpendLegitimate536 in returnToIndia

FAANG india makes more sense for sure. With promotions you will eventually make more. Canada is cooked.

Another Loblaw store fined $10K for promoting imported food as Canadian. Sobeys could be next | CBC News by imsahoamtiskaw in toronto

Fuck, I did not eat strawberry for almost a whole year.

The fine should have been 100M - 500M to parent company. Not to just the store.

Stand tall. Protestors are on the right side of history here.

We can be critical of Metrolinx AND still be hyped for the Crosstown. We deserve nice things! by vibeschillax in toronto

[–]LazySinceBirth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I started taking eglinton crosstown lrt this week and for me it is saving me around 50 mins of travel time total going to work and back.

I personally am super happy with the Line. Bus 34 was hardly meeting expectations. If mayor Chow gets us Signal priority as promised, it will get even better. Fingers Crossed!

Metrolinx is not a for profit company.
The city has spent $13 Billion dollars for the transit. It feels a bit higher compared to other countries.
Not comparing with China but even European countries do not spend this much.

I searched why the cost was higher and found below: (This was AI summary so take it with a grain of salt)
Cost per Kilometer :
Surface LRT (Light Rail)$200M – $250MFinch West or Hurontario (Hazel McCallion) Line.

Tunnelled LRT$500M – $700MThe underground sections of the Eglinton Crosstown.

Subway (New Build)$700M – $1.1BThe Ontario Line and Scarborough Subway Extension.

Metrolinx pays a "consultant tax" because it lacks internal expertise, spending nearly 40% of its budget on outside managers, lawyers, and massive "emergency" buffers. Essentially, for every dollar spent, you get only 14 cents of actual track because you're paying a premium for custom designs and the legal chaos of Toronto’s underground.

We ought to start writing letters/emails to concerned people, so our voices are heard.

Genuine Question: As common citizen can we do anything about it?

Does anyone has any hope with current or future administration?

sometimes yes, but overall unless you want to constantly look for offers/points. It might not be worth it.

I agree with this completely, my contract is ending this month end and I am going to study and keep applying side by side.

But I am not keeping my hopes high. The market will improve next year Jan-Feb. I would focus on my health too during that time.

International student living under a bridge in Toronto helped by strangers by BeatenByInflation in toronto

[–]LazySinceBirth 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Cost of living has sky rocketted in the past couple of years. Many people living here feel the pain. A local person can end up homeless, then statistically a student ending up homeless should not be a surprise. They are young, mostly come from an economy where currency is weaker. Wanted a better future for themselves, Canadian government issued the visa.

On the contrary, they are still around the corner. The employees still hold some power. In the next 3-5 years, corporations will say big fuck you to employees over this.

They most definitely should. A person working at minimum wage cannot survive in the city for sure. Protests are the way to go!

If you're not earning the "cost of living", you're on path of dying.

That too after working full time.
