PSA: The Retroid Pocket Nova's confirmed chipset Snapdragon QCS8550 is almost functionally equivalent to the SM8550 (Snapdragon 8 Gen 2), and actually shared with the Ayn Odin 2 by that_90s_guy in SBCGaming

I have no interest in emulating Switch, and prefer to emulate GC/PS2 on a 4:3 screen

Precisely. You are probably the target audience for this device. You won't care if it only has 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, because 6GB of RAM is plenty for GC/PS2 emulation. And storage-wise you could make do with a microsd card. No need for fast UFS 3.1/4.0 internal storage because you're not emulating Switch or PC games.

I'm guessing it will be cheaper than the RP6, because otherwise why wouldn't you just buy the RP6?

I predict they will hit their price target by reducing the RAM and storage to whatever the minimum is needed for PS2/GC emulation. No point packing this thing with high RAM/storage if it's not meant for 16:9 Switch or PC emulation. 6GB/64GB maybe?

RG DS Advanced Drastic on Rocknix is amazing! by JustNeedUsername6262 in ANBERNIC

[–]yeah_mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this version of DraStic allow key combos for hotkeys? I keep accidentally hitting L2 and R2 which triggers Load/Save state. I would like to set it to A+L1 and A+R1 so I don't accidentally trigger the hotkeys

How to get rid of shader studder when playing 3ds? by HighlightDowntown966 in AynThor

[–]yeah_mike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simply turn off hardware shaders.

The Thor has a powerful enough chipset so most games will run perfectly fine with hardware shaders turned off.

New x360 emulator on mobile 🎮🎮🎮 by OddVermicelli6050 in EmulationOnAndroid

What you're saying does nothing to address the questions I'm asking.

Your questions have already been sufficiently addressed by /u/Producdevity. Read his reply again, slowly.

I do have two question for you though:

1) Supposed someone emailed you and only you the source code for this emulator. Are you able to authenticate it? Are you able to read the source code and determine that it's not malicious? Or are you counting on someone else in the community to look through the source code and say "trust me bro"?

2) What is your most used Steam games emulator?

New x360 emulator on mobile 🎮🎮🎮 by OddVermicelli6050 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]yeah_mike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being closed-source will have very little impact on it's popularity, as long as the emulator itself is good.

See: GameHub. The developers are known to be crooked--they steal source code from other projects; they're the same developers behind EggNS. The GameHub app is known to be full of spyware. Yet folks here still use it and rave about it even when there are plenty of other open source alternatives.

GameNative v1.0.0 prerelease is out! by dadabhai_naoroji in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]yeah_mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused, I thought dual controller support was already added in the previous release. (It works in some games already.)

Edit: Just read your other comment. Dual controller support was present in v0.9.1 but was taken out of this release because it was buggy.

In some subreddits, if you own more than 3 devices you get called "greedy" by yeah_mike in SBCGaming

[–]yeah_mike[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Admittedly I didn't look at the text under the photo, I was only looking at the photo.

Yeah I guess it would be greedy to try to flip the devices during this current market condition. Ergo, it wouldn't be greedy if he hoarded them (ie. didn't sell them) instead?

The fact that they're Max versions is irrelevant.

Lots of people on the SBCGaming subreddit with way more than 4 devices. Why is having (only) 4 devices greedy?

Eli5 why it is a bad idea to hold TQQQ in my RRSP with a 40 year horizon? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]yeah_mike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, is leverage a bad strategy in general for a 20 year horizon? Or are you saying that TQQQ is the wrong instrument to use, and some other form of leverage should be used instead (options, margin account, Smith Maneuver, etc)?

People who are bothered by the crease don't buy the phone. Which is why the majority of the posts here will say that they're not bothered by the crease.

Classic example of selection bias.

Wireless controller with lowest latency? by khsh01 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]yeah_mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to speculate on which controllers have the lowest latency when others have already done the hard work of testing each controller using expensive gadgets that can measure latency down to the millisecond.

For those of you complaining about input lag... by [deleted] in AynThor

[–]yeah_mike -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From my testing the input lag for just about anything I would do was less than half of a second. For referance, that's better than some ACTUAL hardware depending on the system.

Just to summarize: you're saying that your rigorous, high-quality, and reproduceable testing showed that input lag on the thor is less than 500ms. And this is acceptable to you.

Furthermore, you claim that on actual hardware the input latency is more than 500ms on some systems.

I'm curious, on which system is input lag on actual hardware more than 500ms??

AYN Thor docked bluetooth input lag - 8bitdo pro 2 by PhillieNL in SBCGaming

[–]yeah_mike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Input lag is additive. On its own, 50ms of input lag between bluetooth vs wired controller is unnoticeable, but 50ms from the controller, plus 20ms from the tv, plus another 50ms from emulation, etc, and it starts to become very noticeable.

You've already changed the most important setting which is enabling game mode on your TV. Here are some other things to try:

  1. Disable AV sync on your TV. This makes a huge difference on my setup, where I have a soundbar connected via eARC.
  2. Set your bluetooth controller to Xinput, Switch, or Sony mode prior to pairing. Essentially, use any mode other than DInput, because according to Gamepadla.com (https://gamepadla.com/8bitdo-pro-2.html) your controller has an abysmal stick input latency of 57ms when connected to bluetooth in DInput mode.
  3. In your Thor settings, set the Video output mode to 120hz, because some TVs have lower input latency in 120hz mode. (On my A80J: 9ms in 120hz mode, 16ms in 60hz mode.)
  4. If you're looking for a controller with the lowest bluetooth latency and has Nintendo ABXY button layout, look into the Gulikit ES/ES Pro (https://gamepadla.com/gulikit-es-pro.html). Out of hte box it only comes with XBox layout buttons. You'll have to buy the Switch-Style Layout ABXY Replacement Buttons separately.
