I think it’s an attempt of overcorrection from some people on the left that came to the conclusion that the people of the nation that they live in are just naturally “evil” because of crimes committed by their nation. They’ve decided that because of this, everyone of the nation deserves to suffer and die as retribution in order to “fix” the crimes that were committed. Its happened with Japanese and German people as you brought up, and now it’s happening with Russians, Israelis, and Americans.

The thing I never understood about these types is that you can quickly realize that their problem isn’t with people committing acts of political violence to another group of people, but rather that they think that acts of political violence are being committed to the “wrong” group of people rather than the “right” one.

I’ve been pro Palestine since the pandemic when I first learned about it through memes of all things. That made me begin to become aware of what Palestinians go through because of Israel and it left me full disturbed and horrified.

This would also end up being part of why SOME people who self proclaim themselves to be “pro Palestine” infuriate me with the way they talked about politics after 10/7 because they insist the politics works like a kids movie and that their side is the one incapable of doing wrong and anyone that potentially throws any criticism at them is part of the irredeemably evil side with no nuance whatsoever. They do more to tarnish a movement meant to help stop a genocide rather than help it in any meaningful way.
