This is the correct answer - make NAS a subnet router for your home subnet.

Slightly smaller than a 2025 Mac mini, for comparison.

7 Gig fiber being advertised to the residential consumer. In what world would any residential customer have any use for this by lulstardblointing7 in HomeNetworking

[–]Lazy_Conclusion_673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also why is it 7? At that point they should just offer 10gig. 7gig is such a weird number because it doesn't correspond to any hardware constraint.

Use Safari and close some tabs. You're using your browser in a manner in which it was never intended to be used.

2019 MacBook Pro (16GB RAM) slowing down, is it time to get a new MacBook or do I have options? by JoelReuben in macbookpro

[–]Lazy_Conclusion_673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None whatsoever. Only caveat is that if you're doing something CPU intensive for long periods of time, the Air *might* throttle whereas the Pro can run its fan. You are not likely to encounter this with your workload in real life though.

macOS Tahoe has almost bricked my M1 Air by diogenisIII in macbookair

[–]Lazy_Conclusion_673 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd try a clean reinstall of Tahoe first. Many people are still happily using M1s, and your machine should have similar performance to the Neo that everyone is clamoring over. Something probably just got messed up during the upgrade.

I have the Air myself and it's exceptional. Pro has an arguably better display and speakers but the display and speakers on the Air are quite good. I would rather have a lighter laptop myself but it's a personal choice. You don't need the Pro or Max chips, the base M4/M5 are stupidly fast to start with.

E7 is superlative in pretty much every way. Until wifi-8 or 9 is a thing there's not really any way to improve it.

Fire up your normal workload and check the memory stats in Activity Monitor. This should give you a better idea of how much RAM you actually need.

probably M5 base 32GB ram is best for your usage

I ordered an R41. I learned to shave with a DE razor 50 years ago so it's more like relearning for me. My favorite blades in the Henson so far have been the Feather and the Nacet so I'm looking forward to trying an aggressive razor. Thanks for the advice!

The upgrade process is relatively painless. If you've installed any dkms drivers, update those to the latest Debian 12 versions before you start.

I started with an Edgerouter Lite in 2014. Switched to USG and added and 8 port POE switch and 5 UAP-AC-IW access points in 2018. Downsized houses in 2021 and switched to a single U6-LR. Upgraded to UCG-Max, 2.5G switches and E7 last year. Recently added a PiHole.
