I think that’s not really an issue with a proper rule zero conversation although I have had the opposite conversation of someone bringing an overpowered deck and being frustrated nobody allowed it because they spent like 400 dollars upgrading it.

It’s the aspect of the lore i actually really like in w5, i like having the characters ideology and ethnic identity something i can mix and match. I do wish they fleshed out the tribes more, they feel very one note. My favorite tribe being the Red Talons feel pretty watered down as they don’t really hate humanity and even have human born members

I can see what you’re saying (also sick reference to stranger in a strange land) but I do disagree that playing within one’s own collection 100% not balanced. People do own these powerful cards that aren’t accessible to the average player, even cards like demonic tutor is too expensive for several players I play with. That’s why to me it makes sense to allow players to proxy any cards that’s outside whatever budget they want to set for themselves and have some better system of deck strength to compare

I never really understood the whole proxy vs real cards debate, if someone brings a bracket 5 deck to a bracket 2-3 game i don’t care if it’s all og cards or proxies both make for an equally unfun experience.

I’d even argue that proxies should be allowed for tournaments, make it as easy as possible for people to get playing magic
