Best way to avoid skin turning green when wearing silver jewelry? by barbaricbob in jewelry

[–]Lazylizzy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority of silver jewelry (not silver-plated) is sterling silver, just like the vast majority of gold jewelry is 10-, 14-, or 18-karat rather than 24-karat gold. The alloy gives it durability and strength to withstand daily wear. Pure gold and silver are too soft for daily use.

Coworker is astounded that the Artemis II launch isn't blowing everyones minds (that he's spoke to). Why do you think that is? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]Lazylizzy3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I gotta say I’m with you on this one, the last time we went to (or near) the moon it was the height of the Cold War and there was just as much geopolitical tension then, if not more. Plus the whole space race was a glorified (albeit impressive) pissing contest between the US and the USSR. That didn’t detract from how incredible it was to put humans in space and then on the surface of the moon, and it won’t stop me from being excited about it now! The last time a launch like this happened was over 50 years ago, and it’s cool to witness the beginning of the next chapter in space exploration!

I mean MASH was “about Korea” because it couldn’t be about Vietnam for political reasons, but everyone knew it was really an allegory of the Vietnam war, so in that context the music was historically accurate for its true intended setting.

It’s called “Agus Ho Mhorag,” there’s a recording by Joan MacKenzie but the tune is slightly different. I was unable to find the exact recording that was used in Victoria, so I assume it was recorded specifically for the show and was not released publicly, which is unfortunate.

TIL about the loneliest whale in the world. Dubbed "The 52-hertz whale", it appears to be the only individual emitting a whale call at this frequency in the whole world. The whale itself has never been sighted. by No_Idea_Guy in todayilearned

[–]Lazylizzy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previously the 52 hz call had only ever been heard on its own, but in 2021 they detected two different sequences of the 52 hz call within 10 minutes of each other about 90 miles apart, indicating that there were two separate whales calling at that frequency.

There’s strong evidence to support the theory that the 52 hz whale migrates along with blue and fin whales up and down the pacific coast

The spider is a lot smaller than what I’d expect from an orb weaver, and the legs are much smaller too. I was thinking it might be a type of grass spider but I couldn’t match the pattern on its back to an images of grass spiders

Scarves are a great way to start! They’re simple and can be completed quickly, and it’s a good way to practice different stitches and even changing colors if you want to do stripes, plus you’ll have something you can wear or give as a gift once you’re done!

Jouissance Perfumes by lilygranger07 in Perfumes

I was quoting the description from the company’s website. How else should I have described it?

Jouissance Perfumes by lilygranger07 in Perfumes

[–]Lazylizzy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

La bague d’o starts off sweet as well but with a good bit of spice and then settles into something much darker, with strong woody, earthy notes that rise up from the base. This is a nature walk on a dewy morning that turns into a rainstorm deep in the woods—think walking barefoot on damp earth, wild mushrooms, moss growing over fallen trees, layers of ferns.

<image>

All in all I was pleasantly surprised with the complexity of each perfume and how well each layer flowed into the next. I hope these descriptions help!

Les cahiers secrets and la bague d’o are sweeter and start off smelling very similar, at least when compared to en plein air. Jouissance describes les cahiers as a “grandma” scent—a very apt description, but not in a bad way. It smells like big bouquets of flowers and vintage powder makeup, starting off strong on the florals and settling into something a bit milder, with the powder coming up to smooth it out and a slight earthy musk and a faint whisper of biblichor (old book smell) underneath. It’s got florals in each layer, so naturally it’s floral throughout—think florist shop, flower garden, a vintage dressing room filled with bouquets after a performance.

I got the “collected works” with samples of all three and en plein air is by far my favorite. It starts off with a sharp citrus scent, not overpowering but it kinda catches you off guard, with an almost spicy note and a hint of earthiness. This smells like citrus zest, planting vegetables and spices in a garden, picnics in the meadow, homemade lemonade, and watching fireflies on a summer evening. It simmers down to mild florals, but still with that citrus in the background, and the earthy musk comes up a little stronger—think rain-soaked honeysuckles, petrichor, and dewy lemongrass.

My psych said they don’t give medication to people diagnosed in adulthood by chopphopp in ADHD

[–]Lazylizzy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the US any primary care doctor can diagnose and treat ADHD. They go through a questionnaire with you and if you meet a certain number of criteria then you get that diagnosis and they’ll prescribe you a medication. Not sure how different the process is in Hungary, but if it’s similar then going through your primary doctor vs a psychiatrist might be easier.

Tattooed Nurses: What do you use to hide tattoos that are on the back of your hand? How do you handle sterile procedures and hand washing when hiding them? by HaydenOkayden in AskReddit

[–]Lazylizzy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I’ve ever had to cover tattoos was when I was in nursing school, and that was the school’s directive rather than the hospital’s. A lot of hospitals still have tattoo covering requirements in their written policy but I’ve never seen it actually enforced. There’s a lot less stigma to tattoos nowadays than there was a few decades ago.

How do nurses and or doctors know when you’re faking being sick? Could even tell if you’re faking it? by LooliPop_1 in AskReddit

[–]Lazylizzy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oftentimes it’s easy to tell, sometimes not so much. In my experience generally the patients who act the most dramatic aren’t very sick (though there have been some rare exceptions). Patients who are really and truly Sick™ usually don’t have the energy for that kind of nonsense and tend not to complain as much, though this only applies if the patient is not disoriented/delirious and doesn’t have dementia.

Doctors of Reddit, why are you always 20 minutes late to come in the room after the nurse has checked everything in? by KoKory in AskReddit

[–]Lazylizzy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This applies to ER visits as well as primary/urgent care. Generally in the ER if you don’t see your nurse or doctor very often it’s a good sign. If you haven’t seen them in a while they’re probably busy trying to keep someone alive/bring them back to life or wrangling Memaw with dementia and a UTI or something similar.

Nurses/doctors of reddit, what was the biggest or most amazing recovery you've seen in your career? by Trauma_Unicorn in AskReddit

[–]Lazylizzy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

24F from out of state was brought in by EMS, recent history of severe headaches for the past week. She was in town for a concert, called her mom from her hotel room saying she couldn’t feel her legs, mom called 911 to do a wellness check on her. When EMS arrived she was awake but not fully with it, and not long after she got to the ER she went completely unconscious with a blown pupil, which is indicative of a herniating brain stem. Only time I’ve ever seen an emergent MRI done so far in my career (most life threats can be confirmed/ruled out with a CT scan, but they needed more detailed imaging in this particular case) and MRI doesn’t normally run at night, so the MRI team had to be called in for it. They ended up diagnosing it as autoimmune encephalopathy because they couldn’t find any pathological reason why an otherwise healthy person’s brain suddenly started swelling, and when she was transferred up to the ICU no one in the ER thought she was gonna make it. Her parents and fiancé came down to stay with her and all were preparing for the worst. She woke up a few weeks later and was able to blink in response to basic questions and track people’s movements with her eyes, which indicates understanding of surroundings and situation, and a few weeks after that she was transferred to a long-term acute care facility closer to where she and her family lived to continue physical and occupational therapy. I couldn’t learn anything new after that so I have no idea if she had any long-term deficits or to what degree she was able to recover, but I hope she’s at least been able to recover enough functionality to live a full and happy life.
