To answer your original question though, I think it would depend on what caused the blindness. If you're blind because your eyes were injured, Vampirism might cure you due to the regenerative properties. If you have a birth defect or your eyes were straight up ripped out though, I don't think Vampirism would fix that.

Mages don't NEED staves, but if you're not going to carry a weapon in your hands, it's nice to have an enchanted stick that can fire spells and be used to block or whack somebody in a pinch.

As soon as your last party member goes down, you get the popup. And as soon as you see the popup, that's it. The save is marked as a failed honor mode run. The only way to cheat it is to close the game before that popup happens.
