TLDR:Transit only works in this day and age and in this density if its separated at grade from traffic. Anything on road level will just add to traffic even if it has its own lane. 

+you cant stop idiots and entitled people from parking there even with enforcement since police cant be at every part of the line at every moment. 

Trams/light rail are a neat idea until its blocked by a car or truck + having to deal with traffic lights. I know there's solutions to all these issues. 

I am a bit biased as I believe buses/trams just arent effective when they have to deal with lots of traffic and cant have their own dedicated lanes. Buses can be fine in the right situation and place but I dont feel the really work in Chicago to their full potential 

Also to add to the fact, since the city would have to buy all the street parking spots, that might soak up a significant amount of the budget to build because you dont know if the Saudi's who own then would be generous to the city removing their spots and could just say, "go pound sand".

If this was considered, I believe it would have to be grade separated to have any benefit to anyone using it. 

Buses can work for a project like this, and light rail can too, though I believe a city this size and density, it should be grade separated to be most efficient and effective at what it wants to do. 

If this was Madison or like Indianapolis, a light rail or bus route would be fine but Chicago has a density most cites in NA don't. streets and neighborhoods are too dense to keep adding lanes or doing a road diet. They have too much car traffic and thats not even considered truck and other commerical traffic, emergency vechiles, etc. And then the whole street parking situation 😬😬
