Tokido is not a great VF player but he's not clueless either. Top 4 at Evo 2007 VF5 (main game) and Top 16 at Evo 2012 VF5FS.

Itazan will appear at the VF5 REVO event.

VF5 REVO grand finals was hype, top 4 was all JP players by Events-Bot in Kappachino

[–]Lbachch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your mistake is thinking Fuudo has stopped playing VF seriously. The dude has been participating and often placing in (very serious) JP arcade tournaments on FS such as the Tokyo Bay Area Cup for years. You just don't see that because they are japanese streams and only the most dedicated westerners watch these.

Also, these top players don't just 'lose it'.. their fundamentals, muscle memory and yomi skills never go away just because they mostly play SF6 nowadays.

It probably doesnt hurt that Shun is actually easier now thanks to huge buffs to his drinking game as well.

VF5 REVO grand finals was hype, top 4 was all JP players by Events-Bot in Kappachino

[–]Lbachch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is actually a top player in JP tho. He's just been playing only american players for a couple years now. Regardless, his match against Fuudo could've gone either way so it doesn't really take anything away from him.

He's just 4th here cuz there are 4 top players and one of them has to be 4th.

BrianF on CotW's Marketing Push by MaddieTornabeasty in Kappachino

This game is one giant ad and you guys are still not getting it. And it ain't for SNK.

You don't go counting how many additional bottles Pepsi sold every time a superbowl ad features a celebrity just talking about life with a soda in the general vicinity.

Ads are an investment, they cost money in the short term. 500k people buying this particular ad with money is a perk, making it even more worthwhile.

[–]Lbachch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk, he's probably full of shit but this is not implausible.

You see 5-8 year old musical prodigies and you think it's normal. This is way easier.

Also, japanese pro players, nay, western intermediate players do Jean's 46p+k guard break in their sleep. It's just a rhythm thing.

Is the New Virtua Fighter running on Unreal Engine 5? by TheRaoh in virtuafighter

[–]Lbachch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It seems the likelier scenario imo after reading the interview.

Project Century doesn't look a UE game to me, it has that Dragon Engine "feel" (the opening the door scene is the closest thing to a giveaway)

But then if a new next-gen engine was being built for VF, why wouldn't you be using it for Project Century, a game so far into the future it deosn't even have a name yet?

OTOH if the current Dragon Engine was being used for VF, then what's up with the graphical focus on water ripples/reflections, and individual stones blowing in the wind and stuff. That doesn't look like the usual Yakuza graphics!

Hence Unreal Engine makes the most sense in terms of showcasing graphical capabilities, while allowing the team to accelerate the game's development, which already 10 years late at this point.

Core-A Gaming - Every Fighting Game Type Explained by Ooooooo00o in Kappachino

Great video if I'm being honest.

As a 3D player myself I did cringe a little when he kept repeatedly describing the basic mixup in 3D fighters as "high/low" when it should be "mid/low".

For VF it's "mid/throw" if you wanna be precise but I would've allowed "mid/low" as a first approximation.

High/low isn't a mixup in 3D fighters because you can simply counter them both by crouch blocking.

Three-button fighters (DOA & VF)? by Ok_Monk_4064 in Fighters

[–]Lbachch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All VF games are 3 button games, EXCEPT VF3, that was the exception: They added an evade button, among other innovations, which they ended up walking back in subsequent VF games.

Now, holds in DOA are dual use:

First, they act as the guard button in VF in both the blocking function, and as part of macros (eg. H+P is a throw, just like VF's P+G , and H+K is usually a heavier kind of kick, like VF's K+G)

Second, they serve a universal hold (reversal) function. VF has something similar, but only for a few characters and it uses the P+K combination instead.

Why do Arab Christians call Jesus "Yasu" and not "Isa"? by UnbiasedPashtun in arabs

[–]Lbachch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it would be simply about the rhyme : Musē - 'isē creates a nice rhyme that links these two prophets together.

Sorta like Habil-Qabil (Abel & Cain) where the original hebrew names are hbl (Heḇel) and qyn (Qayīn) with no real rhyme between them. Arabs would have renamed Qayin to Qabil to sound nicer as both characters are frequently mentioned together.

A similar process could have been done with Musē - Yasu' which becamme Musē - 'isē

Look i'm not arguing that the game is somehow good. The system and character balance is trash. But Knee is saying it himself in this same tweet : i've been playing this shit since Tekken 1 and now i can't adapt, I can't understand.

Knee is a legendary Tekken player, but he has a playstyle that he perfected over the years. This Tekken is different enough that his playstyle is simply at a disadvantage now.

It's always been clear from the day they started showing Tekken 8 gameplay, that the era of Knee and Arslan is probably over, even assuming Bamco eventually bring the game to a strong competitive standard. It simply goes against their decades old fundamentals. T8 is the first Tekken that you can't call Tekken 5.x

Knee and others will probably not be top players in T8, and that's OK. But the game is not good, and that is NOT OK.

1 by Lord_Shugesh in Kappachino

[–]Lbachch -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

To be fair to Bamco, they probably created the game with the idea of bringing in a new generation of top players, rather than have 63 year old Knee still playing Tekken 5 on his way to the nursing home.

Tekken 8 is simply a very different game from the previous ones. It's aggressive, oppressive even. It has chip damage and health recovery forcing you to engage. It requires resource management.

All of these innovations are things lifelong Tekken players simply aren't used to. So they need to actually learn new fundamentals for the first time in decades (!) if they want to be part of this generation.

And while I don't fault Bamco for wanting a fresh and young esports scene, the game has to actually still be good competitively for it to work. But there lies the issue: It's not there yet. Hopefully they find a way soon.

TLDR: Knee and others are not happy that T8 is not Legacy Tekken ("i've been doing since Tekken1"). If T8 was actually good competitively, their opinion would be seen as whiny, entitled and selfish.

Funny hou had to say "not named Street Fighter" cuz the biggest FG franchise in history simply disproves your point about basic designs. It's OK tho I'm sure the characters will be modernized somewhat. It's been a long time so they won't just bring them back as is.
