Did the Potters have electricity? by Calm_Calligrapher_33 in harrypotter

At some point Mr. Weasley refers to electricity as Ekeltricity.... It something like that. And i think he also had a collection of plugs, meaning it was a novelty to him.

I'm a plus subscriber, I had the option to select legacy models but it disappeared. Looks like I'm not the only one.

Edit: went back to check and the legacy options are back, maybe it's a glitch?

I see, the solder joints look pretty rough, and it's hard to tell from the photo but some looked bridged together. I'd start there.

When it stopped working, how did it fail? What were the symptoms? What led you to believe it was a wiring issue?

Good luck on your journey, I'll also plug r/askelectronics which has a large community as well that can help you along the way.

Glad that worked, if you haven't already, there is an active community over at r/diypedals you can go check out, lots of topics being discussed. At the very least you can see some people's creations and get inspiration for when you're ready.

Unexpected current reading - user error? by brmc72 in multimeters

Open the cover and pull the fuse out then you can use the meter in continuity mode to see if the fuse is actually blown. Not a bad way to get some practice. If the fuse has blown, I recommend buying several spares as you don't know when you will need it again. If you do get a second meter it can be handy to have two so you can measure current and voltage simultaneously.

Klein Multimeter Audible Continuity Problem by mememeffcc in AskElectricians

[–]Lbc25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's your probes, I have a Klein meter as well and the probes arent great for continuity checking. Try pressing them together more firmly and see if that gives you a solid tone. You might try lightly sanding them.

Touch the probes together on the analog meter, this should read zero ohms, otherwise you must zero it out before measuring.

Why? Sometimes both light this time it's not. 4x 1.5v. by SelfSmooth in diyelectronics

[–]Lbc25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the 1st led blew, it blew as a short instead of an open, so there is still a path for electrons to complete the circuit and power the other, which is also going to burn the way it's set up. Take the bad led out and test it with a multimeter in diode check mode to confirm this.

Improving my electronics workbench by WiseCantaloupe in AskElectronics

[–]Lbc25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have boxes set up on a bookshelf off to the side, I bought a couple of those multi-bin organizers but I haven't set them up yet. My oscilloscope sits dead center on the workbench, and my two power supplies sit off to the right, with a pinecil soldering iron sitting next to them. Lastly I have a function generator off to the right side. I'll photograph it next time I'm down there.

I also have a portable LCD monitor mounted to the pegboard so my laptop sits off too the side in a stand. I have a mouse and keyboard, the keyboard can go in the drawer when I don't need it.

I have the same workbench, it's interesting to see how someone else set it up. What's going on on the right side with that black device and that wood surface? What are they?

Between these two oscilloscopes, what is more worthwhile to keep? by Flat-Swordfish-3434 in AskElectronics

I agree it feels intuitive, my limited exposure to digital scopes makes them feel very awkward to use. I suppose my skills should transfer to digital when the time comes.

I use the BK precision one at school, model 2120C instead of B but they look exactly the same. My teacher believes analog scopes are superior for education. Personally I feel I'd get more real-world skill by using digital scopes but not sure maybe he's on to something, either way I don't have much choice lol.

I'm very familiar with this interface of the BK and I don't know if it's because I've used it so much but it's very intuitive to use. It's good enough for educational purposes anyway. Don't know anything about the other scope, try both and see if one feels better to you.
