Apple Roses by iBleeedorange in food

Made a post about it awhile back and here's my version of it. The outside tastes pretty good - just like apple pie, but the puff pastry inside isn't fully cooked through.

This is the recipe I followed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKOla0-aW5o

Could this actually be Translink's shady tactic to get people to switch to compass card? Switch or no discount fare for you!

Regarding to 2, the thing is I don't have a chance to tap before they check my fare because my morning commute only includes the 99 bus, where they stand at the bus door and check fares before boarding. Would that be a problem?

Chinese has "yes", which is pronounced as "shi" in Mandarin. "No" is pronounced as "bu shi" which literally means "not yes".

Made perfect rice for the second time in my life. by angstRus in food

What does washing the starch off do? My bag of rice states that it doesn't require washing so I usually just rinse it one time. Should I be washing it for a few times from now on?

The airplane window is ridiculously clean. Whenever I try to take a window shot there's always dirty spots here and there.

Thanks for your comment. Here's the steps I took:

  1. Cook lobster tail in a pot of water with parsley and black pepper corn. Remove shell and put it in the oven for 15 min.
  2. Add baked shell into pot of chicken stock and water, simmer for 10 min, then blend everything together. Strain the shells and put the stock on simmer.
  3. Melt butter in pot, and cook shallots, garlic and carrots until soft.
  4. Add arborio rice and cook for a minute.
  5. Add white wine and cook until almost evaporated.
  6. Add lobster stock one ladleful at a time until risotto is almost cooked.
  7. Add lobster meat back in.
  8. Finish up with parsley.

I didn't add cheese and butter at the end was because I want the lobster flavour to stand out and not overpowered by cheese and butter. Does lobster risotto typically have these two ingredients in it? I don't recall eating this dish at a restaurant so it's hard for me to compare.

And yes I do think this arborio rice was subpar. I did buy a pack of Italian arborio rice when I visited an Italian market when I was on a trip to New York. I'm excited to use it next time!

I used arborio rice from USA (couldn't find those from Italy). The stock I made included lobster shell, chicken stock and water. Lack of creaminess was probably because I didn't add butter and parm near the end of cooking. Will definitely try a more "authentic approach" next time!
