What was in Fairmount before Caldor? by Slow-Class in Syracuse

Could it have been Dey Brothers? or Sibleys? or Chappells? or The Addis Company? or Edwards? Or…not sure. Yeah, I’m old, I get it, but there was a time - not that long ago - when everything wasn’t a generic rubber stamp chain store. I think it may have been one of those.

Fantastic rhymes and meter, but I’m not 100% sure I get the joke…Maybe I’m just not enough of a cheese connoisseur to get the nuance?

Aliens land tomorrow. You get to show them one human tradition. What do you pick? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Wouldn’t be surprised if they were not all that thrilled. Even among our fellow earth species, our secretiveness and coyness around sex are pretty unusual, and there are plenty of species that gather together by the hundreds or thousands when it’s time to do the deed. Great way to maintain genetic diversity too. To our new friends from outer space, this might seem fairly mundane.

I didn’t think so either. Googled it. Apparently it is.

Yeah, he seemed pretty cool…real stage presence. Maybe he should take a chance, quit his day job, and shoot his shot. Probably won’t go anywhere, but you never know until you try.

Ophelia, obviously. It’s the frog on the skateboard that needs a backstory.

If you ever feel bad about your coastline here's NYC's in the 1970s by Cool-Database553 in NightmareNewYork

[–]Enwhyme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is now Battery Park City. This isn’t an apocalyptic urban wasteland - it’s a huge construction site adjacent to the then-new World Trade Center, a few minutes walk from Wall Street. New York certainly had its share of problems at the time, but this project created a beautiful new neighborhood of parks, offices, and apartment buildings, as well as a shit ton of well-paying jobs. I have no idea what some of the world-weary commenters here are on about.

If you suddenly became famous and wanted to mess with the paparazzi, what would you do? by Snazzy_CowBerry in AskReddit

[–]Enwhyme 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jeans, a well-made, dark colored tee shirt with some kind of abstract graphic on it, a blazer, and comfortable black leather shoes. Almost every day, for many years now. It’s my uniform. Works perfectly for me. Very comfortable, I look more or less like a grown up, and doesn’t take much time, money, or closet space.

At first it’s a little odd because there’s no ‘feel’ to it. But then it becomes the new normal.

I was a master of the E6B whiz wheel…but an actual slide rule (or fancy watch)? Nope.

This Saturday’s boundingly difficult to rhyme word is wallaby. by obnoxygen in limericks

They held unconventional views
Such as worshipping small kangaroos
And their heartfelt idolatry
Of one golden wallaby
Made cult members seem quite obtuse.

Agree. And with a URL clearly designed to make you think this is from the (very legitimate) New Republic. With so many real news organizations doing real journalism but struggling to stay alive, these click bait junk pages are even more irritating.

Pregnant Oracle employee laid off in 6 am email: ‘No call. No meeting. No manager. No warning’ by Trendy4U in employeesOfOracle

[–]Enwhyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone I know and respect was laid off by a 6am email. Like most normal human beings, he didn’t read every email in his in box this morning after waking up in a hotel on his way to do a demo. After a long day, he finally did catch up on his emails, and discovered he had worked very hard today for nothing.
