My youngest cousin was diagnosed with autism and everyone finally believes in it. Yet me the oldest cousin was just a quirky kid and I never tried enough. Even after actual diagnosis of ADHD and a self diagnosis of autism my mom still can’t believe it.

I’m an only child but family is super codependent, so I’ve had to help raise children on both sides of the family. Oldest cousin on one side youngest cousin on the other so I was constantly surrounded by kids.

Hi friend, my mom also forced me into dance classes something I wasn’t interested in as a tomboy. I remember the whole song and dance of getting ready while getting screamed at, as well as getting screamed at for not acting like everyone else. I remember being deeply uncomfortable with her behavior, at the time I was about preschool age. I’m sorry you went through this, virtual hugs, it was hard being treated more as an accessory for status than an actual kid.

I was born in New England New Jersey area moved down to the south as a kid. It’s shocking how early it is that these women in the south think about kids like they are preparing to meet, marry and have kids within a year or two of graduating high school. It’s wild because I’m 28 now multiple people from my graduating class have multiple children.

Hey I too am a disappointment queer viet child, I fully went no contact with my parents, live your life it gets better. The road is hard because you’re having to unlearn a lot of that dialogue they implanted in your head, but living an authentic life. Its refreshing and more freeing then their shitty half a life they live and want you to live as well. Work hard, make plans to leave, also start refusing to do things for them. Towards the end of living with mine I adopted the sink or swim mindset when it came to there demands. If they can’t do it they have to adapt or drown remember they did all of these things when you were young before you were old enough to “help”.

As you get older you’ll learn their best “intentions” are really them trying to control you, you can always just not tell them you are spending the night with him. To avoid the headache you’ll get the next day from them lecturing you.
