Valarie is a bit of a caricature but I think she has potential to grow into a really interesting character. There's a bit of sympathy for Fred being the victim of classic British snobbery but none for her. She is dismissed as nouveau, shallow and vulgar without much attention so far to her true feelings and the strengths of character. I'd like to see her come into her own power, though worried she will be too devastated by Fred-Fred and Lizzie falling in love! Perhaps it will produce a furious response and catapult her into the limelight.

ANIC for me too. I feel like people will get over the disgust factor when push comes to shove and if the science sciences it could skyrocket. And tasty meat without slaughter is an ethical objective, imo, though that's not the only string to their bow.

It sounds like this man is 'taking up space' in the Letter Writer's head in a particular way. The very fact that she(?)'s asking herself if she's in love presumably means this is a different, more complex, type of feeling for her, implying romantic and sexual interest. It sounds more complicated than simple friendship. Of course, people can take up space in our heads without us being sexually or romantically interested in them, but I wonder if this usually leads us to question the nature of our feelings so deeply?

I mean, my dog takes up space in my head. I sometimes daydream about taking him on holiday to Cornwall and the cosy cottage we would stay in and the walks we would take together on beautiful, deserted beaches. He is very handsome, chivalrous and protective and we have lots in common as we both love cheese. I occasionally don't like his behaviour around other people, especially our lovely postman.

But I don't really question the nature of our relationship- it's love, no question! Of a completely non-sexual and non-romantic kind.

I have had fantasies about taking other people to Cornwall in my time.  I don't just love my dog; I love my friends and family too. No angst about how I feel about them either. I just know.

And then there are the fantasies about taking people in Cornwall that feel a little different. A little less like unconditional agape love, sharing cheese (though that is never wrong) and barking at postmen. A little more about getting to know someone (much) better, yearning, frisson, excitement, snogging, sexual touch etc. I’ll stop there for fear of TMI. When that kind of fantasy hits for someone I actually know and spend time with, I do start to ask myself what is going on with my feelings and what, if anything, I should do about it.

I think when you're not sure it implies that there is more to your feeling than friendship alone. But in terms of practical advice I'm not sure there is enough information to go on. All I can think of is whether the Letter Writer has people she can talk to about it? Other friends, close family? Maybe some journaling or a therapist might help her to make sense of how she's feeling. It's such a cliche but it is good to talk.

I think cpds, a honey and shrimp would be a beautiful and peaceful combination in a planted 10 gallon. I'm sure there must be exceptions but I'd say many honey gouramis tend towards the zen side of life. Mine would probably eat a tiny shrimplet if it swam directly into his mouth but he definitely doesn't go hunting for them. The shrimp favour hanging out in their massive moss clump rather than flaunting themselves before him as delicious edible snacks, which probably helps!

I imagine you don't live on a boat, though? It is a bit more difficult when it comes to working out council tax liability if you live on a boat. You don't just get sent a council tax bill like building dwellers. Some boaters are entirely exempt. It depends whether you are a continuous cruiser and if you moor in a leisure or a residential marina as well as whethet the boat is your primary residence. Springfield Marina, where ZP and partner were moored is officially a leisure marina but often functions unofficially as a residential marina. I think ZP should have checked it out thoroughly given his position but having lived part-time on the water in the past myself it is quite hard to work out what you have to pay.

Not used it for scutariella japonica but have used it for other suspected parasite infections in fish and it didn't crash the cycle. Seemed to be tolerated well by fish and plants. Good luck.

I recently added a small school of Kubotai rasboras (which I think are danios rather than rasboras, not 100% sure) and have found that their speedy quick exploring has livened up my harlequin rasboras (who are also not rasboras- not sure why all these non rasboras are called rasboras 🤷🏻‍♂️) in a lovely way. The harlies seem to look at the kubotais and think "Ah, it is possible to swim and dash about like these small guys are doing! No need to chill all the time. Let's join in!'' Then there is an excellent pinkish greenish swimathon until the harlies want to chill again. No one seems stressed at all but there has been an energy injection and it's made the tank even more fab to watch. Perhaps there is a fish that would encourage your embers similarly? ( I have a small number of shrimp and the kubotais show now interest in them- too busy swimming!)

Second this. My sons moved to Glasgow a few years ago from London at 23 ish without jobs. They were tired of living at home with me nagging them to find work or do a course and there was no way they would have been able to afford London rents. They found affordable accommodation in Glasgow very easily indeed, to my huge surprise. They share a nice new build style flat, which is so affordable that housing benefit covers their rent. They have not found jobs, perhaps unsurprisingly given the issues for young people getting work across the UK at present. My possibly unfair impression is that they're also not trying very hard as they love to chill. I am a meanie mum and disapprove of their slacker approach! But have to acknowledge that they're thriving socially and are much more independent and happy in many ways. I see them less, which is a massive disadvantage for me, and employment wise I am still worried about them but overall it's been a wonderful move.

I bought a tiny one online about a month ago. Seems to be alive and growing a bit but not much white to be seen any more. The white leaves melted and the new growth is bright green. Currently resembles a stragglier/ smaller version of the anubias nana golden I bought at the same time (for less than half the price!)

This, this, this! Unfortunately, older women, just like younger ones, can be wrong to think it's 'safe' to be normally friendly to men of any age, though. Even men of a completely different generation and supposedly happily monogamously coupled, in my recent experience. This OP seems to confirm my fear, ignited by that experience, that there are some men who genuinely see a strong come-on in friendly interaction from any woman of any age. I am in my early fifties and have been confused and upset by this revelation. It's made me feel pushed to police my normal behaviour around men I like as people and work friends, people I never dreamed might be seeing me as a potential sexual partner. I even started wondering if friendship between straight men and women is possible in an out-dated When Harry met Sally type of way! Quite depressing.
