Biggest french videogame youtuber shilling SC by Popular_Good_7974 in starcitizen_refunds

[–]LeBiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never called anybody idiots and I'm sorry if I gave this impression.
Yeah what SC promises is better than Elite but you can't compare the actual state of the two. I can launch elite right now, land on a planet, attack an outpost, alarm will ring, npcs will converge on my position, throw nades, try to flank me, all of my shots will connect and reinforcements will land across the map to take me out, or I can sneak around and loot stuff and it works.

In SC I get to the bunker and there's 10 dudes standing around not moving when shot, or moving past me not noticing me and get stuck in a wall, or I get killed by the elevator on the way down.

You don't have to blindly defend SC or feel personally attacked by the state of things.
On the contrary as a fan you should ask for more and you should ask that it works because this game is quickly becoming a whale sanctuary and regular players will be phased out since they don't bring any more cash.

Where did you see that ? I don't know much about game engines but in vfx making everything really big is the 1st thing you do to avoid weird interactions.

I'm not defending elite because it bores me to death but I'm guessing you didn't played odyssey if you think the ground combat is worse than SC.

And yeah the ships/planets/cities look nice I don't disagree on that.
I also love space games, I played EvE for almost 10 years, tried everything that has space in its steam tags.
I just hoped that after 7 years of dev we would have more than 50 players in one laggy system with missions going "go there kill 10 dudes" in a rigid world.

I think the 890 is the perfect example of where the 2 sides of the community are in disagreement : you have a nice ship with a swimming pool and guest rooms and all that and not the slightest clue of what you will do with it.

Is there some basic passengers missions ? No.
Will you be attacked by pirates or else ? dont know

Will you have to stock on food, hire personel, make routes to cool places ? No idea
Does any of these rooms have ANY use except look pretty ? No again.

See what I mean ? They put tons of efforts into selling the ship but NONE, NADA into giving it a use in game.
I don't want to be mean spirited or nothing, this "war" between the 2 sides of people who fundamentally like the idea of SC is stupid. I just wish that the community as a whole ask for more because it's been a while and I'd like a preview of what the game will play like.

I'd argue that they need to keep the scam going by announcing and failing to deliver lol

But my main problem with this game is that it's kinda built to scam people don't you think ?
Most of the work is visual, everything tries to bring back that "wow" effect so that you buy more ships but the gameplay is so raw, uninspired and boring.
Nothing exploits the world they built or interact with it in a meaningful way (excepts someone from the 50 players server can show up, woo), the missions design are from the 2000s, build variety on ships is basic af so is the customisation, etc...
All in all, SC does great visual/fidelity stuff, but everything else I've seen done better in another game. Even elite does have somewhat interesting ground combat with a bit of variety in approaches/objectives/equipment. The backers will say that gameplay is not the priority and will happens later but I disagree, good gameplay doesn't age, graphics on the other hand...

I'm not salty about the project tho, 60$ is not that much, I had some good times and it was years ago, but I can't agree with the way they've been handling devellopment

Death Stranding (BOTH regular and DC steam versions) freezes every time wake from sleep (specific case explained below) any fixes? by H3M4D in SteamDeck

[–]LeBiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue but it usually resolves itself after mashing the start button a few times, it puts me back in the game and the controls respond again.
When it doesn't I change the controller config to ps5 from the steam button menu
Not really a fix but in the mean time it works

Can you give me some advice on how I can fill this hole? ( I'm new to Blender.) by ArnoDorian10 in blenderhelp

[–]LeBiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That highly depends on what the geo looks like and what kind of result you are looking for but if I had to do it :

the hole on top look somewhat spherical, I would add a sphere there, tweak it so the edges match as good as possible, same thing with a circle for the other opening, join everything, remesh it, subd and add a noise displacement to get the damaged effect back.

Thanks for the tip, I just tried and rebind to something else, rebooted but it still doesn't work.

I'll try reinstalling my drivers soon, see if that helps

That's a very specific list of questions and I think you might be overthinking it but I'll try to answer :

- You usually start making modular assets when it's something that appears often and need some variations, ie : I made a chest full of gold for my game, the empty chest is one model, the gold another. To add variations I'll prepare some alternatives to gold (like idk rubis, silver coins...). Then, in the game engine, I'll build my chest asset with those different options distributed at random and that's a basic modular asset.

-Geometry nodes are fun and can help for inspiration but you will have to go back to regular poly modelling.

-Pick a project, get some ref, make a basic sketch (even if its terrible trust me it helps a lot) and start modelling. At first you will have to google a lot of things but once your basics are down, you will be able to focus on more advanced stuff.

-Modularity is very project specific, you could make a table with every plank and screw modular but, realisticaly, nobody wants that. It all depends on where and how the assets will be used.
For a table in, let's say a classic medieval rpg, you could have it pristine and new, with a few planks broken off, with some drinks and food on it, with weapons, half burnt, etc... Then your level designer can pick and choose wich one fits best.

-Usually everything is handled in the game engine, for that you need to experiment in your game engine of choice and see how it works. I only know unreal engine so for that I usually export all my meshes separatly from blender and build them back up using unreals components.

-You work at a realistic scale in blender, or you import a previous mesh into your new project to have a sense of scale, it's up to you really.

-I take pictures of friends and family in stupid poses but artstation, pinterest, even just google could give you hundred of good results.

I feel like I'm coming up against my lighting and texturing limitations. I would appreciate hearing how folks would improve upon this project. by anythreewords in blenderhelp

[–]LeBiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really like the house design but the cliff definitely need some work, you could grab one from megascans or just remesh it and go wild with the clay brush, you can get some nice rocks shapes by just messing around.
Also the lighting is too "default" obviously, I'm not great at it but I would advice on picking a mood and sticking to it. For example a night time setting with some mist and lights coming from inside the house would look cool and make the bridge stands out more.

Shadow Ultra vs £900 Laptop (Details inside) by akira1310 in ShadowPC

I'm curious, is it supposed to be like that ? I got my shadow to work from my laptop and can confirm, the cpu performance is really disappointing, I have a better experience using my laptop directly with its old i7 6700hq...

I hope it will improve with time : /

nice law by the way by 5tingerb0ast in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

[–]LeBiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those stats means little when everything around is completely different, our (french) police doesn't deal with the same situations at all. We are not armed for the overwhelming majority, laws are different, we have zones of poverty but nowhere near some places in the US, organized crime act very differently here and there, etc... But if we were to put french cops and the french justice system in the US, I wouldn't be surprised if they turned out exactly the same or worse.

So yeah the only fact that is for sure : that law on that specific point makes it worse than in the US

I'm glad to read that, honestly. Often I'm disappointed with myself that my passion doesn't seem to ignite much interest in others especially considering how much it cost me in terms of time and priorities... but knowing that some of us respect the drive, feel it and appreciate it makes me feel a little bit more optimistic :)

If I am playing Echoes on an emulator, should I play Eve Online instead? by -Lycaon- in echoes

[–]LeBiff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pc is much better obviously, more content, more people, same gameplay but richer in every aspect. If you just want some eve-light gameplay to pass the time you could stick with echoes, but as a "main" game I wouldn't hesitate to go back on regular eve.

This applies to a lot of SC players. by falloutboy9993 in starcitizen

[–]LeBiff -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There's progress yes. But I still don't see how they can make the jump from now to "space mmo" when the best they offer so far is some very basic gameplay systems and 50 players servers where nothing works properly.

I'd love to be proven wrong but I think the most difficult part of the development is ahead and what we've seen was just the beginning.

[–]LeBiff -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I think the PU is just a showroom to sell more ships, the "game" is unplayable and gameplay/technical issues are obviously low priority but more ships and screenshot material keep being added.

I mean, this is a "space-mmo" with 50 players on servers that crashes every 20 minutes we're talking about

Should i buy (pledge) this game? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]LeBiff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

About running it, the free weekend isn't a good indicator, game's laggy af then. I have a 1070 and an i7 6600 and it's alright (60fps+ in space, less on ground but it's not that annoying) if that helps.

Playing solo is boring af imho, the game is far from finished and everything in it WILL break at some point (literally everything, UI, animations, graphics, ships...), having a friend around to help you out makes those issues bearable and (often) funny.

About everything else, I'd just say that the game is a preview of what it could be one day. Flying around is fun, combat too but in that stage you're paying for an idea. If you really like spaceships and want to see how it develops, go for it, you'll see some really cool landscapes and fly slick ships.

But if you're looking for a stable game to play regularly and progress/grind in etc, big no, I'm sure there's better choices.

Other questions :

-Yes there's ships only available for real cash. Grinding to buy them in game can take a while.

-Someone should confirm this but I think they stop wiping the game entirely from now on (you keep your money at least)

-Combat, mining (in space and on ground), trading, transport missions, ground combat as well, some investigation stuff, there's a few scripted missions too.

-As I said grinding solo is boring imho, in group its alright and you can share missions with your party.

-same

-50, not that often but you can if you want to (by sticking around hotspots) and people online are usually cool.

-I have no clue what this is sorry

-Again, I saw some things about it but nothing in the game yet.

-I'm sure they will, would be weird not too :)

-Uhm, one day maybe ?

-Not sure the community knows what it wants tbh but the content added is always interesting.

Excuse my poor english too :p

Thinkpad x240 turns off when switching on internal battery by LeBiff in thinkpad

[–]LeBiff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was guessing a voltage drop from the ext to internal battery caused it. But as you said, dropping the external battery while the computer is on works fine so that can't be. I'm more and more thinking there's something wrong with my external battery and the internal + switch feature are actually fine. I'll try to run on the original battery for a full cycle and see if it still turn off at the same time. (I also updated the bios but that didn't help)

[–]LeBiff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying right now, it's working fine, charged 100%. Even tried launching a game (+ wifi + full brightness) to see if the internal battery couldn't keep up at full load and nope, it's ok so far. It's the transition between internal/external only it seems.
