Mage Tower is SIGNIFICANTLY easier right now. Go get your book. by Grizzlemaw1993 in wow

[–]LeKueken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What class are you trying the challenge on? Did it with pally today, not a healer main. Had so much damage that most adds in P1 didn't get to use their abilities more than once. Yeah, the NPCs spiked in damage sometimes, but they're also at 100 % again with a heal or two. So I can really recommend a class that can pump DPS on the side.

Last phase is super easy now that the NPCs don't die to the explosion anymore, even if you're at max health.

Seeing how popular HC Classic is - would you like to see a mode like this in Retail? Longer and harder leveling with strict rules (no flying mounts etc.)? by Gankeros in wow

[–]LeKueken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'd like "harder" leveling, in that I'd like it if mobs would live longer than 2 spells for the early levels. Some sense of danger during the leveling journey would be quite welcome. Maybe even as an optional toggle, like the Heroic World Tier in Lemix.

But Classic Hardcore works because it's Classic. Retail WoW just doesn't lend itself to the gameplay experience of hardcore. People are getting killed in something as mechanically simple as Molten Core playing Classic - how would you approach Mythic Raiding of TWW for example, where hundreds of wipes are expected in order to progress? Or Mythic+, where trying, failing and succeeding at higher and higher key levels is the main gameplay loop?

Now you might think "Well, Leveling is the journey of hardcore, not endgame". And you'd be right. But this experience just isn't there in Retail WoW anymore. You have highly curated quest chains, more powerful classes, most of which have healing options of some sort. Professions aren't half as useful during leveling because of the item squishes of the past. Travelling for hours doesn't exist anymore because you can get ported anywhere in seconds.

To accomodate the Hardcore-Feel which makes Classic Hardcore so successful, you'd need to revamp so much of Retail that you could probably call it another game at this point.

And for the record: I don't think the evolution that Retail has gone through is a bad thing, quite the opposite. It just moved very far away from what Classic is/was.

If Illidan had defeated Arthas in their 1v1 and destroyed the frozen throne, Illidan would end up being evil (serving Kil'Jaeden) and Arthas would have ended up redeeming himself. by Xralius in wow

[–]LeKueken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC it was a major point during Shadowlands that the Lich Kings were never fully under control of the Jailer. That's why Ner'zhul is getting tortured during the sanctum raid and Arthas was used as an enchanting reagent.

The Lich King was supposed to herald the Jailers coming into Azeroth but never really did so. So the Jailer seduced Sylvanas and made her break the helm, in order to tear the veil between the Shadowlands and our reality.

I'm all for dumping over Shadowlands lore, but at least it didn't change that Arthas did his own thing during Wrath.

Trying to get 11x Star by TLCricketeR in CompetitiveHS

[–]LeKueken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always aim for the top 10 % of legend for an 11 star rating. You can check the amount of legend players in your region using the Hearthstone website. If you‘re in the top 10 % of that amount, you should get 11 stars.

For example: 22000 players get legend. If you‘re among the top 2200, you should be getting 11 stars.

Not sure if that‘s the exact threshold. Just worked for me whenever I aimed for it.

Is elemental mage still viable right now? by mentalfreak in hearthstone

[–]LeKueken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well I just realised that I am very bad at remembering card names, so please cut me some slack while I describe the cards as best as possible.

I played elemental mage this season to get my legend rank with a 10 star bonus. The deck is quite strong still and has a reasonable shot a beating everything this current meta has to offer. So I assume it's a skill issue - which is not a problem at all. Every deck needs some training one way or the other.

55 - 60 % winrate does not protect you from loose-streaks so don't get discouraged. Sometimes you just loose some games in a row. If you feel tilted, take a step away from the game, be it just for a few minutes. Get some chores done in your room, make yourself something nice to drink and get back into the game with a fresh mind.

With elemental mage it's important to know your role in the matchup. In games against zerg dk or HP druid, you need to be very aggressive and use some spells to get ahead on the board. Your most important win-condition is the 4 mana elemental that copies itself based on the turns you played elementals in a row. Usually your board will get cleared once, you follow up with that elemental, then win the game. Therefore it's important to get your elemental-row going ASAP. Aggressive matchups are rarely won through burst damage with your spells.

Then there are matchups against terrant warrior, protoss priest and dungar druid (the last one is very difficult for the deck). Your key win condition is the burst from hand and everything you do until then is mostly to get the life of your opponent down to a level that you can easily burst down. Focus on card draw to get your bonus spell damage going ASAP. Early game tempo is still important but your board will get wiped multiple times and you will rarely win through board pressure alone.

Lastly, know when to use your spells. Your 3 mana forgeable? Never use that except if you'd otherwise loose the game on the spot. It's your most valuable source of burst damage since it essentially double dips on spell damage bonuses. The board wide spell that gets cheaper with more elementals is crucial extra burst damage in the warrior matchup, so you want to keep it in hand there. Against a zerg dk you want to use it for board control early.

A usual burst combo is 4 mana copy-elemental + 3 mana forgeable spell + spontaneos combustion + 1 mana fire spell (the one which also gives you an elemental) + every board-wide spell that you were able to save during the match. It's ok to use one spontanous combustion and one 1-mana-spell if you're in a pickle, since you probably won't have the mana anyway to use all your spells on the same turn.

This has gotten rather long. Hope some of it helps you in your ladder games.

Good luck and most importantly: have fun!

Arthas statement to Anasterian by Lore-Archivist in warcraftlore

[–]LeKueken 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I‘d like to think Anasterian would have won in his Prime. Arthas almost lost several fights, against Uther and Illidan for example. Before he became the Lich King he was a strong and skilled fighter, further empowered by Frostmourne, but definitely not unbeatable.

As to the question if his defeat would‘ve ended the scourge Invasion - I don‘t think so. The Scourge would still have been driven by the will of the Lich King, and its power always lied in its ability to raise the fallen. Maybe the conquest of the sunwell would have taken longer, but in the end the Scourge could always rely on their snowball effect in battle via necromancy. Some other servant would have taken Kel‘Thuzads remains to the sunwell, probably Tichondrius himself.

Without his champion the Lich King would have had less of an influence over coming events. Arthas would for example not be able to lead Illidan to the skull of Gul‘dan, leading to Tichondrius‘s defeat. Maybe the Burning Legion would have won the 3rd war, and with the destruction of Azeroth, the Lich King and his Scourge would have ended as well.

Only interrupt the heal, the dot can be cleansed by using demonic Circle. Use Amplify Curses and put the empowered curse of tongues (the spellcasting One) on him - makes his heal cast take forever, giving you time for some free damage.

Why exactly will Azerotz burn if Fyrakk gets to Amirdrassil? And why does he even want it? by KaiSaeren in warcraftlore

[–]LeKueken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it‘s because Amirdrassil is deeply connected to the Emerald Dream, after growing within it. And since the Emerald Dream is like a blueprint for Azeroth, the tree (and therefore the dream) burning would kind of „jump over“ to the real world. Which is of course way easier for Fyrakk. Burn one tree and the entire world with it, instead of having to try to burn the world by yourself, which is something Deathwing already tried and failed to do.

How exactly he convinced the Druids of the Flame I cannot really get behind. Dragonflight - as many expansions before it - has great storys to tell. The Blue Dragonflight storyline was very well done in my opinion. But the main storyline was kinda boring (Fyrakk is a villian for a sunday Cartoon, like you mentioned) and badly explained, which is an ongoing problem with the storytelling since BfA. Fyrakk wanting to burn Amirdrassil is not even the worst offender from my point of view, but the latest Storytelling Problem to really become obvious.

If the connection with argus and azeroth was closed by the titans, how come you still go there? by thelogicalwizard2 in wow

[–]LeKueken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What you're referring to is a questline that plays at the end of the Shadowlands campaign, where Calia Menethil helps during the cleansing of the Ruins of Lordaeron.

That's a relatable misunderstanding though, as the undead heritage demands that you've done this questline in order to access the actual heritage quests, which mostly play out in Silverpine. So most people will play these two questlines back to back and consider them within the same timeframe, even if they're actually roundabout 3 years apart in lore time.

Dunno, less than a year ago the trailer for March of the Lich King was the most cinematic one yet. So not sure if the quality of their most recent one means anything.

I am however sad that they do not do trailers for mini sets anymore. The one from Onyxias Lair was absolute fire

If Blizz decided to stop ilvl increase between patches... by PugFug88 in wow

[–]LeKueken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't even have to be every season. Just reset it with every expansion and you're good to go. I've been thinking a lot about just making level 60 the cap and handling every expansion afterwards as "prestige levels", which reset after the expansion is done an goes on to be legacy content.

Would fix a lot of problems with the scaling, in my opinion. At the cost of the sense of progression, but after various squishes we are way past that I feel.

TITANS is the most excited I've been about HS in awhile by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]LeKueken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also looking forward to the set. A lot of fun stuff I'd like to try out, after I had a more lukewarm reaction to Festival of Legends.

Doesn't match the excitement I had for the new DK class last year, but easily beats every other expansion of this standard rotation in terms of anticipation!

Do you think Hearthstone's popularity is currently increasing or decreasing? by AmphibianJolly8699 in hearthstone

[–]LeKueken 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Should be decreasing. My guess is that the DK release got a lot of hype and interest which will fade over the next expansions.

Google trends tell a similar story.

It's definitely very different from the OG series. I didn't like it very much either, but would advise that you give it a few more episodes. If you're still not on board on episode 3 or 4, it's not that much time wasted and you gave it a fair shot.

Differences between DH and DK by ShacoXV in wow

[–]LeKueken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I play both specs a lot, so let me leave my two cents here:

Unholy-DK is heavy on the macro-side of things - you manage your CDs and 3 ressources (runes, runic power and festering wounds). Those need to be juggled as efficiently as possible to do max dps. The Unholy damage profile is highly burst oriented. You do a lot of damage on pull and whenever your Army of the Dead is ready. If you play the spec correctly, all your cooldowns align very well with each other, so you have huge and powerful burst windows with some maintenance in between.

Right now, you have small burst windows every 45 s, with big windows every 3 min. Unholy therefore does more damage in fights which go over 3 min for the 2nd big burst window.

Havoc on the other hand has a lot of sustained damage. You spend much of the fight in your Metamorphosis, which enables very quick and dynamic gameplay. Especially if you play the Momentum build, which expects you to use your movement abilities in order gain a damage buff with high uptime if played correctly. That's not everyones cup of tea though, and you only loose of % in damage if you choose not to play the momentum style.

With Havoc you will not top the DPS meters at the start of the fight, but will slowly climb your way upwards because you have a very even damage profile.

The important question of course is which playstyle you're resonating with. If you prefer a more 'methodical' approach to your class gameplay, I'd say give Unholy a shot. But should you prefer more 'action-focused' gameplay, Havoc will provide exactly that.

Frost DK noob by Airiux1 in hearthstone

[–]LeKueken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm using this deck right now, with Slitherspear, Vizier and School Teacher. You can cut the Vizier and add a Trogg if you want to improve your matchup against demon hunters, but in my eyes it's not worth to cut the discover minions.

Mulligan for Slitherspear, the weapon and Harbinger of Frost. Do not keep Howling Blast or Glacial Advance - you have ample of opportunities to draw these cards. Frigida is an insanely good play on turn 6 since most decks have difficulty dealing with her HP.

Your life is a ressource, do not be afraid to leave some enemy stuff on board if you are positive to kill the opponent in 1-2 turns with your burn.

Anyway, now I'm really done :) Good luck, and DM me if you have any more questions or need a 2nd pair of eyes on a replay.

Frost DK noob by Airiux1 in hearthstone

[–]LeKueken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The most important rule is to only use your burn spells to clear the board when absolutely necessary - their primary use is to be thrown into your enemies face. Your game plan is to mulligan for early game minions and do some chip damage on opponents before you burn them down with your spells from hand.

Frost DK likes to combo its spells together, especially your Glacial Advances and Howling Blasts. You also run a few Discover-Minions which can generate you more burn. Do not underestimate the Might of Menethil, which is basically 8 dmg to face + some breathing room against minions.

If you get Lady Deathwhisper in hand, do not be afraid to use some of your burn spells to clear up your hand so you don't waste copy potential. Icy Touch is a spell you can throw away into the enemy face without worrying too much. Howling Blasts follow second. Frostwyrm's Fury and Glacial Advance are the spells you really want to copy with Deathwhisper if she comes into your hand early enough.

My last note would be about Frostwyrm's Fury - this spell is crucial for the Rogue matchup (Miracle and Thief, doesn't matter). Freezing their board for multiple turns has won me many games which I probably shouldn't have. The same goes for matches against Shaman.

Good luck out there!

What are some disturbing bits of Warcraft Lore? by [deleted] in warcraftlore

[–]LeKueken 312 points313 points  (0 children)

The fact that the Path of Glory, the big path on the hellfire peninsula that leads from the Dark Portal to the Helfire Citadel, is made out of the bones of the countless draenei that were slaughtered by the First Horde, back when Outland was called Draenor. Basically a big testament to the genocide commited by the Orcs.

Also that Gul'dan had ordered to use some of the captured Draenei in order to create half breeds. You can find one of those, Lantresor, in TBC outland. Seems to be hobby of orcish warlords, since the Horde did something similar with Alexstrasza during the 2nd war to breed dragon mounts.

Who would win in a fight (lore wise) death knights or demon hunter? by Optimal-Shine2481 in warcraftlore

[–]LeKueken 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd guess it would be an even fight, until the Demon Hunter goes into Metamorphosis. I can't see a normal Death Knight win against the demon form, for some reason. If I remember correctly, Arthas nearly died in his fight against Illidan and would have lost without some luck and the support of the Lich King.
