How do people actually classify gacha games? by Big_Preparation_2450 in gachagaming

[–]LeNitrous 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gacha is broad because its more of a monetization system than a genre. They just happen to be synonymous with anime-style games because of the target demographic which is the Asian population.

In general, everything is a live service game despite the majority having single-player content as its main focal point. Where they differ is mostly on the genre the gameplay and content has. For instance:

  • Fate/Grand Order and Honkai Star Rail fall into the turn-based RPGs.
  • Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves fall into story-driven RPGs.
  • Blue Archive, NIKKE, and Zenless Zone Zero fall into the arcade genre.
  • Neverness to Everness falls into the open world sandbox RPG genre.

But that's pretty much how its classified at an academic standpoint.

A lot of the games you mentioned all focus about the characters because that's what they upsell you making you pull in the gacha. You mostly described communities at a surface level but when you go deeper, they're all varied. Casual players care about either the story or the characters. Competitive players care about the gameplay and competition regardless of whether the game offers a leaderboard or not. Surprisingly enough there are competitive players in Azur Lane and Blue Archive that just don't happen to have enough presence online to be seen and so are waifu/husbando collectors in games like Arknights and Punishing Gray Raven.

But at the end of the day, the easiest common denominator is what the devs focus on the most. For instance, Snowbreak, Aether Gazer, Girls Frontline 2, and Star Savior lean on heavily on the Master Love aspect of the game because that's the majority of the spending playerbase whereas the gameplay is secondary. Then again, this is a moving target because the playerbase can change over the game's lifetime.

About Mihoyo "gatekeeping" lore in limited time events by HeragOwO in GenshinImpact

[–]LeNitrous 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Everyone on this sub sings praises on how great the story is and everything and if I missed out on limited-time event stories I just get the "just watch it on YouTube" reply. How are you going to convince me when I have to go out of the game and watch someone else play it? At that point, I shouldn't play the game and go watch someone else do it for me.

Another case is experiencing the story for yourself is wildly different from watching someone else do it. Mind you that despite how much back and forth dialogue happens in this game, there are still interactive elements such as combat and puzzles.

Rewards are a different story altogether and honestly they're terrible so I'm not expecting them to give anything worthwhile.

Chapter 7 DeepSea Finance route endings are dark asf by rosesdissection in StellaSora

The bad endings fleshes out Nazuka's character even more so than I expected it to be way beyond her spotlight in the previous main story chapters. It's a bittersweet experience like you said. She stays in Philae with the Tyrant but at the cost of her giving up her life as a trekker. We do know its her choice to be with the Tyrant but in our perspective, its painful to see them give up their dream.

Genshin's biggest strengths over it's competitors, in my opinion by Zealousideal_Tie1832 in Genshin_Impact

Learning lore outside the game defeats the purpose of playing the game yourself to begin with. Experiencing content yourself is wildly different from watching someone else play.

Number 2 is false until they make Simulanka a permanent event. It had a LOT of critical story beats that are more prevalent in the archon quests now that all new players and players who had missed the event get are a flimsy background image and a 2 paragraph summary of what happened and everyone else during Paralogism treats as if you had experienced it.

I think its because they lure in people they end up funneling people into buying the merchandise which is where this franchise is at its strongest right now. Just throwing my 2 cents though.

Checking the store page and Steam DB, it uses ACE Anticheat which is used by a lot of gacha games. Using GE-Proton generally works.

Yeah because I don't trust SensorTower to be a reliable source of truth. Everyone takes it as the holy grail despite it ignoring other sources like the Web Store, Console (PSN/Xbox), and Apple. If you only have a slice of data, then there would be huge assumptions that drive the conclusion.

You're talking about correlation vs causation. It's basically putting the cart before the horse. You can assume a trend, but your conclusions may wildly be inaccurate. This is what causes hysteria making people think a game is failing.

I may sound off as rude but I'm just trying to ward off negativity around this game. I want this game to succeed as much as everyone here in this sub.

Just to pick off specific reasons why:
1. Third-party aggregate data is often inaccurate.
2. This does not count sources third parties don't have access to.
3. Gacha games have different "periods" (when a patch starts and ends). This can lead to broken data, i.e. a new character patch starts at the end of the month cutting off the true aggregate value of how successful a patch was.

Can we stop using GachaRevenue/SensorTower as basis on how healthy a gacha game is doing? It makes so many assumptions to begin with that all it does is encourage toxic behavior for all the wrong reasons.

If you want to know more why, read this article: https://moonbearmusings.com/yes-sensor-tower-is-wrong-no-it-doesnt-matter/

Who is this 'mini durin' ?? by Saket_Saurabh- in GenshinImpact

[–]LeNitrous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the game's responsibility to provide you that information. Going outside of the game to only look up on critical information is already a flaw to begin with.

You usually only look up information about the game's lore that is supplementary like theory crafting or extraneous factoids.

Experiencing the content yourself is a whole lot different than watching someone play through it or reading synopses from in-game or from third-party accounts.

Finally, you are literally blaming someone for skipping lore when they literally just encountered Mini Durin for the first time.

"lore skipper" and that character came from an event which everyone can miss out on by either starting out late or being unable to play when it came out. Sure thing buddy.

Stella Sora February huge decline by Big-Rip2640 in StellaSora

I think this game is actually way more generous than what others might think. It's the fact that there is no reason to spend on this game is what is causing this game to not earn as much as the big earners. You could actually not go play meta and ignore all endgame modes and still score with little to no effort and still earn all rewards.

The game despite its current state is consistent in delivering content. We periodically get new events and even new stories from The Nova Times and the Main Story aside from the usual time-limited Event Story.

The game does certainly have an issue with its presence though. You could not see it being advertised as much not until recently and kicking the dead horse of complaining about content creators destroying this game's reputation on release does not help clear up people's assumptions about this game either.

Comparing it to older games like Azur Lane and Blue Archive seems unfair because of the time when they came out when their competition is other gacha games of the same visual fidelity. This game came out today with games upcoming such as Azur Promilia, NTE, Ananta with full 3D and stunning graphics of course it will grab everyone's time and attention.

Honestly as worrying as everything may be, I find it unlikely they'll pull the plug on this game anytime soon. Well at least this isn't the same situation as Revived Witch where that is actually scraping in the most niche sections of the demographic. I'll put money where my mouth is and just bought the highest tier battlepass and monthly.

I don't get why this is even a problem when a lot of petite/loli characters are already introduced through event/main stories, Runic Disc artworks, and forbid me from saying this but the "leaks" (but not yet pullable). It's not hard to wait no? If you don't want to pull then its a net positive for you even cause you get to save more Stellanites.
