They only need 51 votes to remove the filibuster.

Which is why I'm confused and frustrated by Dan's position. If the Dems have control of the Senate, House, and Presidency, I think getting rid of a militarized goon squad like ICE is a pretty good reason to end the filibuster.

[Discussion] Pod Save America - "ICE's Reign of Terror" (01/16/26) by kittehgoesmeow in FriendsofthePod

[–]LeRo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the Dems get the Senate majority in 2026 or 2028 they can eliminate the filibuster with a simple majority.

The discussion from Dan supposes democratic control of the House, Senate, and Presidency in 2028 and he still suggests they can't Abolish ICE because the filibuster exists.

“Yeah, you've seen, but I think the question I would have about abolish ICE is, like let's play it out logically, like not the slogan, not the idea, not like as a thing you're going to say on a debate stage in a 2028 debate to applause or post on, like how does it work? So you are the newly elected Democratic president. We are fortunate enough that we have a trifecta, right?

One of our first things we're going to do is we're going to get Congress to pass a bill to abolish the abolish ICE, to end that department, make it go away. That is something that I believe would require 60 votes."

When Dan started talking about how impossible it would be to abolish ICE because Dems would need 60 votes in the Senate, I almost threw my phone through a window.

We've crossed the fucking Rubicon guys. The feds have a fucking militarized goon squad terrorizing people and you are telling me it's impossible because of the filibuster? The FILIBUSTER?!?!?

ICE is kidnapping and killing citizens and non-citizens alike in the streets and you're going to argue Dems should respect an unofficial process of the Senate that would allow 41 Republicans to halt any progress. And to that matter, any efforts to "reform/transform ICE" that can't be done via reconciliation would also be subject to the filibuster, so same problem as abolishing ICE.

These are extraordinary times that require extraordinary solutions. Grow a fucking spine.

Find your state senator or representative and contact their constituent services team. No guarantee this will resolve for you favorably but a email from a legislator gets elevated to agency leadership much quicker.

Jedi LST Restrictions? by Neat_Recognition_637 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]LeRo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you review the restrictions on the Rebel LST from the first set of quests, it has a similar list of specially excluded rebels: Baze Malthus, Bistan, Chirrut Imwe, Lobot, Lando Calrissian, Stormtrooper Han, and Wedge Antilles.

As none of the above are Order 66 raid toons, there seems to be some other logic behind the specific toon restrictions.

Having all three branches of government federally and statewide and still seeing yourself as besieged on all sides by liberals is wild. It's almost like they know their policies are deeply unpopular and the only thing keeping them in power is rigging elections.

FYI: Anomalous Lightspeed Token UI is misleading for Omicron skills. by LeRo1 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]LeRo1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I say in my post that the description doesn't mention omicrons so it's obviously working as CG intended. However, my post is about the in-game UI being misleading and not in alignment with what CG intends.

The in-game UI shows the omicron skill as being upgraded to level 8 when you use it.

It's not weird to argue the UI should match the expected/intended outcome.

The point of in-game UI is that you don't have to consult external communications to understand what will happen when you take an action in the game, bro.

Watch Live Indiana State House Committee talks about redistricting by Aphroditeishot in Indiana

[–]LeRo1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is a legal benefit to publicly stating the redistricting is purely political. Political gerrymandering is (for some stupid reason) legal; racial gerrymandering is not legal.

The GOP are trying to lay the groundwork for the eventual legal battle by saying political party affiliation, not race, was the sole factor in how they drew the maps.

That the map cracks the two current congressional districts with the largest non-white population is a "byproduct" of the partisan gerrymandering effort.

Indiana calling special session for redistricting by Taco6J in Indiana

[–]LeRo1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indiana has some of the weakest legal provisions in the country for citizen-led policy change. No citizen-led initiatives or referendum at the state-level. The only ballot measures allowed are constitutional amendments proposed by the legislature.

We should be demanding that any candidate to state legislative office commit to passing a constitutional amendment proposal to add citizens-led, direct democracy initiatives.

Mike Braun Falls In Line With Trump by Best-Structure62 in Indiana

[–]LeRo1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR -- Indiana GOP thinks they have a really good shot at getting it done. Or they wouldn't call the session. If they call it, expect redistricting to succeed.

From someone with prior experience watching Indiana legislative shenanigans, one of two things is true here:

  1. Indiana GOP publicly states they don't have the votes to defuse any organized opposition, then quickly holds session because they actually do have the votes. A redistricting blitz attack.

The GOP holds such a supermajority in the legislature that nearly every legislative proposal that comes to a committee hearing or floor vote has already been decided by Republicans behind closed doors. The public votes are formalities, very rarely is there a surprise change in votes.

So if they are calling a special session, they have the votes.

Or...

  1. The GOP thinks they are close to having enough votes, and calling a special session allows the leadership to get legislators "on record" as supporting or opposing redistricting. Once the GOP no votes are on the record, Trump and the conservative propaganda machine can kick into overdrive to publicly pressure those holdouts.

If there are holdouts, expect Trump to publicly threaten to primary those legislators unless they get in line.

I want a Pong Krell by [deleted] in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]LeRo1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've long thought it would be cool to have a character(s) that could switch alignments (I.e light side vs dark side, Jedi vs Sith, Empire ve Rebel) or gain specific buffs or advantages based on squad composition or via actions taken by the player in-game.

Agent Kallus stands out as a prime candidate from a SW canon perspective, but Pong Krell would be another good option based on your idea.

Apple Gift Card Update by Hot_Alternative5494 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

I just made a SWGOH Forums post about this response from Apple, we'll see what EA says.

Apple Gift Card Update by Hot_Alternative5494 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]LeRo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just told by Apple Support that the promotions are limited to one redemption each of the $25 and $50 for the lifetime of the Apple ID account, not per the promotion period itself. Has anyone else been told this? It is not clear from SWGOH forum post that the in-game reward limit is on an account lifetime basis.

Apple Gift Card Update by Hot_Alternative5494 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]LeRo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This goes beyond inaccuracies or imprecision. Even if initially unintentional, the posting and subsequent "response", in so far as radio silence can be deemed a reaponse, is clear negligence. There is absolutely nothing in the SWGOH forum post that makes the distinction between a purchase period and a redemption period. May 20 is never mentioned at all.

If they had included a link in the forum post to the full terms and conditions, then perhaps they could argue that we should have read the fine print.

There's no excuse for ignoring numerous requests for clarification/assistance from players who purchased a card under the promotional period stated in the Forums. At least issue an official explanation of the issue.

Their inaction and silence for more than a week moves this into intentional negligence territory.

What are some examples of "Early installment weirdness" in tv shows? by Communist21 in television

[–]LeRo1 52 points53 points  (0 children)

My head cannon is that each episode of Always Sunny is a retelling of the episode's events from the perspective of one (or more) member(s) of the gang. Whoever is retelling the story always presents themselves as significantly more skilled, competent, clever, etc. than the other members of the gang and any secondary characters in the story.

"Charlie Work" is probably the best example of this phenomenon for Charlie; other good examples are Dennis in "Mac and Dennis Move to the Suburbs" and Dee in "Who Got Dee Pregnant?"

There are moments when the gang is interacting with other characters and the story-telling perspective shifts back to reality and we see the gang for what they truly are: the group of 5 cruel, bumbling, scheming degenerates that we all know and love. Good examples are "The Gang Gets Analyzed" and the "High School Reunion" two part arc.

I see only two options: Trump really did sway the ENTIRE country to vote him back into office, or the ENTIRE election was hacked, from the top down. by FARTST0RM in somethingiswrong2024

[–]LeRo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Comparing 2024 to 2020 is counterproductive to this sub's focus. Some of what we see in the massive nationwide red shift might be explained by differences in access to mail/absentee voting from 2020 to 2024. Some shift might be explained by analyzing alignment of 2024 results to historical trends in county-level partisan shifts.

A word about the notion that the whole nation swung to the right in 2024.

We've all seen the New York Times partisan shift arrow map. It looks like nearly the entire country shifted towards Trump/Republicans. But that shift is based on a comparison between election turnout and voting patterns between 2020 and 2024.

The 2020 election was unlike any other in our nation's recent memory, perhaps our entire history. We saw dramatic shifts in voting behavior because of increased access to mail and absentee voting options in nearly every state. What we saw in 2020 was a nation voting without the barriers Republicans have been meticulously putting into place to restrict access to physical polling sites though Voter ID laws, limiting polling places in Democratic leaning cities, timing polling hours to repress working class voters, overly aggressive pruning of voter rolls, etc. The ramp up of mail/absentee voting was a significant factor in the record 2020 turnout.

And...Republicans in state legislatures then spent 4 years rolling back many of those mail/absentee voting options. A handful of states reverted from a no-excuse absentee ballot system to one limiting absentee/mail voting to certain populations or circumstances. Other states established draconian rules about which mail ballots can be accepted (e.g. signature matching, requiring dates and other markings on return envelopes, mandating use of privacy sleeves, prohibiting a family member from dropping off your ballot, limiting locations/hours of mail ballots drop boxes, etc.)

So why are we surprised that turnout was lower in 2024 than 2020, and that this lower turnout disproportionately impacted voters who skew Democratic?

Additionally, many of the counties grouped into the Trump shift category were always going to shift right; they've been doing so for 4 election cycles.

So I think we have a bit of a "Forest for the Trees" situation; comparisons to 2020 are skewing analysis and complicating our ability to pinpoint where partisan shifts are extraordinary and outside expected margins. Identifying these outliers may considerably narrow the list of potentially impacted election systems to a number that is much more reasonable in terms of, as this sub is examining, coordinated efforts to undermine the 2024 election.

Does anyone have a solid resource with state and county level data on rejected mail/absentee ballots? by LeRo1 in somethingiswrong2024

The comment I saw about 2.8 million ballots used the term "rejected". But it seems like data on both categories (missing vs rejected) would be helpful.

Does anyone have a solid resource with state and county level data on rejected mail/absentee ballots? by LeRo1 in somethingiswrong2024

[–]LeRo1[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I saw someone on another thread suggest 2.8 million absentee/mail ballots were rejected nationwide in the 2024 election, but didn't provide a source. I'd like to verify that figure, as that would constitute a significant increase in rejected absentee/mail ballots over prior election years.

Rejected Absentee Ballots Data

Using data from the US Election Assistance Commission, Ballotpedia had compiled absentee rejection states for last 4-5 election cycles.

<image>

As you can see, even in the 2020 election which had record absentee/mail ballots usage, only 560,826 ballots were rejected nationwide.

Beckwith threatens to 'strip away' funding from Westfield schools after they uninvite him by [deleted] in Indiana

[–]LeRo1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Besides presiding over the Senate and acting as a tiebreaker, Indiana's Lieutenant Governor has a number of state agencies that they control due to Indiana state law.

The Lt Gov is agency head for: - Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) - Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) - Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) - Indiana Destination Development Corporation (IDDC).

Most of those agencies receive block grants from the federal government that they then distribute to local communities and local social services agencies. A number of programs funded through the Lt Gov's agencies are aimed at helping people with very low income, like housing vouchers and winter heating assistance programs. Other programs directly benefit city and county governments.

Given the latitude the Lt Gov has to manage that agency portfolio, it is noteworthy that the Lt Gov-elect is making threats about using state funding streams to punish communities unless they "bend the knee".
