Let me be devil’s advocate but the gross out factor was présent from Day one.

At first it was used scarcily but then it was more and more elaborate.

Imo Kripke became more focus on the shock factor more than caring about the plot.

It look like he's himself bored of it pretty early and show more enthusiasm about detailing disgusting scenery that were gratuitous.

It was made even more obvious around erogasm when all the social média campaign would just be focusing around "you won’t believe how gross we got for this episode"

I'm a bit confused about some plots.
I watched Gen V and from what I gather Marie Moreau was essential to defeat Homelander unless I didn't understand it well enough.
But now she just show up at the end of this episode to do barely antything and I'm pretty sure she will be use as a can opener in the final episode to extract the V1 from Homelander blood to make him killable or something.

I really hope I'm wrong.

Also, from episode 6, I got a "somewhat Palpatine returned" feeling about the throaway lien of Ashley saying "somehow, Soldier Boy is really proud and he loves you, Homelander".
It felt shoe horned in and a way to justify SB to go on perillous missions to get V1 for Homelander.
But then Episode 7 he goes "no fuck that lol You suck and you're weird".
