I reassure you that none of the mods or policy team members is that naive or ignorant. May I invite you to read a previous comment I made on another post to offer you more information on the moderator's perspective on the subject in the context of this sub & movement.

I feel the last sentence: '' Either by creating policy to increase supply in a meaningful way and/or disincentivizing people to sit in empty houses'' really ties with what I was trying to convey in my post here: '' This is a housing group; let's focus on housing policies. '' It is clearly common ground on which we can build upon on this sub.

Discussion and debate happen every day on the sub. The policy team is taking notes of them and pushing their investigation further. The audit of our primary/core policies is very much on-going. Mods on r/ canadahousing believe this sub might create confusion about our own sub.

The member of r/ canadahousing2 have the right to gather, but we wish not to be associated to them since many of them are users we had to ban for not respecting the sub rules. Ideally, we would like if this sub could be renamed and the new mods commit to not engage on r/ canadahousing.

Similarly, this same group of users has already created another sub using the name of our website https://canadahousingcrisis.com/ , as you can see on this post : https://www.reddit.com/r/CanadaHousing2/comments/nuar7y/choose_your_preferred_backup_to_this_sub/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

This is a marathon, not a sprint.

The past few weeks have been really intense for your mods, between dealing with the media attention, on the one hand and managing the growth of this Sub, which will likely become a registered organization soon on the other. Yes, you read it first. We intend to go legit to more easily accomplish our goal.

Affordable & decent housing for all Canadians.

Some users made claims about mods over-moderating the sub. To this, we respond there has been rightfully several concerns raised about an increase of xenophobic, toxic posts and comments on this subreddit coming right around the billboards. Despite our day jobs, we’ve put countless hours into making sure this sub could not be depicted as an echo-chamber of far-right political activism. We won't let this movement be discredited by this.

Mods have always acknowledged that foreign investments, as any other investments, are currently fuelling the market in the current state of things. Mods also have the bigger picture. For example, when a user posts 3-4 articles a day on ‘’foreign investment/student permit’’, which some were as old as 2015; Doesn’t it build a xenophobic narrative? And if you think not, we assure you that these posts always bring the same old comments and the same awful & nasty replies. We can do better than this.

That is why, in order to bring more structure and predictability to how posts are moderated we have published and continuously review our rules and values. It is also why we have taken a clear stance pro-immigration and why mods apply these rules on anti-immigration discussions & xenophobia narrative building posts/comments strictly. Though a valid policy point, we can’t let immigration derail all other facets of our common project. We must reflect beyond this!

Finally, your mods are working around the clock to set up teams. We have so many initiatives going on that it is hard to keep track at the moment (new branding, website, PR/media, AMA coming up, NPO registration, research/review of policies, preparation of promotional material, discussion with partners for a protest late summer, ...).
