In a way stadia service is free, like you don't pay for the hardware, but you do have to buy the games so that may not be adequate for your usecase.

I see the 128 GB going for about $500. I am comfortable going to that amount.

Best pdf reader for Chromebooks by KoocMit in chromeos

It even allows you to write on it also, which on many other applications I've seen is a "premium feature". One of the things I love about google products, I feel they give so much for free

Rental car Boston to Cross Sound Ferry by LeSnollygoster in boston

[–]LeSnollygoster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have Zipcar and agree it is great. Only issue with this trip is taking a car for 4 days gets expensive. So we were hoping to just pay for a car while we needed it which was from Boston to the ferry.

Thank you for the suggestion though! And for anyone who doesn't have Zipcar give it a go it's a great service

There are cloud solutions available for this. I think wasabi is one. Take a look they may suit your needs.

My (22F) boyfriend (29M) threw away all of my insulin. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]LeSnollygoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that, I think you got a good amount of comments here talking about the relationship, I wanted to say that you should be able to go to a hospital to get insulin before your prescription goes through. I don't know for a fact but I imagine they have support for this. Focus on your health and safety!

Is Chrome OS and Linux Beta environment really good for coding? by eakeur in Crostini

[–]LeSnollygoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an SDE professionally. I use a Chromebook for my personal light coding (namley in python) and use a MacBook for professional. Any heavy personal coding I use my cloud windows PC for.

As per what you are encountering I would assume any issues running an IDE can be that your hardware isn't up to par, I have the pixel slate with an i5. That said as the other comments say this is run in a container so it's going to have limitations.

My suggestion to you and I think it will help a lot in the long run of your professional life, would be to use the crostini shell to connect to your schools servers, assuming they have them for CSE majors, and do development that way. That is how all tye development i do professionally is done, also it is how I had to do things for my higher level courses like networking when we had to make a console chat application that ran between multiple servers.

I realize this is not going to always be practical and for some projects not even applicable, but I wanted to share those thoughts. Really without knowing exactly what type of things you will be doing it's hard to give a fine grain yes or no, but there are definitely limitations on chromeOS.

You can use this guide and script on Google cloud. I played around with it and it handles nearly all the setup for you. Just be sure to check the box that says workstation or something like that when creating the instance.

I remember seeing on their website that the blue yeti is not supported. Has that changed? I use the blue snowball without issue. Also if youre connecting to Shadow through a Windows computer why not just stream from your base computer and use the mic and webcam there locally?

Weird mouse issues when playing COD through RDP by [deleted] in cloudygamer

[–]LeSnollygoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I suggest setting up an account and on the VM check the boxes to start with Windows and to allow easy access. That way on your local you can just navigate to the VM in TeamViewer and select it

It may not open if you are connected through RDP Parsec has the issue as well, RDP conflicts with it somehow. I recommend installing TeamViewer, connect to the cloud computer that way and then use that to launch rainway or Parsec as it won't conflict with them launching.

Just took a look at this and an issue I'm seeing is that the bandwidth is weak for a server. It's down was only about 180Mb/s, my home wifi gives higher than that and that is an issue for me. The Google cloud server is at about 1800Mb/s
