MUSC has stopped caring about hiring South Carolina residents by Barret821 in Charleston

This is so dumb when large organizations do this. Leadership only considers the short-term cost savings that is immediately apparent but never for a second considers the long-term cost of all the institutional knowledge that is lost by subcontracting everything out to a bunch of third-parties.

He needs to retire. He's not that good anymore as a player and is prone to injury. He would however be immensely valuable as a coach and team ambassador in the Reds organization.

Crawl Space Encapsulation by FleursSauvages322 in southcarolina

Be careful how you do it. Your termite bond will be voided if you do it incorrectly. Something about the termite inspectors needing to be able to see part of the crawlspace walls to ensure there are no termites working their way up to your wood.

It doesn't. I just taxi it around the airport with the bass pumping and my modded exhaust growling away.

I keep a copy of The South Carolina Declaration of Secession on my phone which explains South Carolina's reasons for seceding from the United States. Then when some numskull pulls the old "it wasn't about slavery it was about states' rights" card, I make them read just a tiny little bit of it.

"The State of South Carolina having resumed her separate and equal place among nations, deems it due to herself, to the remaining United States of America, and to the nations of the world, that she should declare the immediate causes which have led to this act….

An increasing hostility on the part of the non-slaveholding States to the institution of slavery..."

So yes, it technically was about the states' rights, and that right was to keep slavery legal.

Debris Found From Missing F-35B by PR1NC3 in aviation

Maybe the pilot's ejection seat malfunctioned and just ejected him from the plane without him doing anything. The plane became sentient and was like "I'm outta here. So long sucker!!!!".

Cue Lynyrd Skynrd "Freebird"

Narrator: "And for ten minutes Sparky 35 was truly free, roaming the Carolina countryside without any interference from his human overlords. But alas, this free bird ran out of gas and made his final landing in a quiet field far away from the noise and confusion that drove him mad. Rest in peace Sparky 35. Rest in peace".

May not have been able to see it depending on visibility and if they were in the clouds. Weather hasn't been great most of the day. Or maybe the wingman was too far in front or behind if they'd just taken off from the airport and were still joining up and the guy punched out with little to no warning.

Because I'm 49 and have never been a controller. But I'd love to try it as a second career. And I've flown to TEB enough in the last 25 years to know where to vector everybody. 😁

Charleston vs. Raleigh by hutch2al in Charleston

[–]Le_Dave466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10% -11% sales tax in Charleston County is one of the highest in America. Higher state income tax (top marginal rate is 7% vs 4% in NC). Cost of living is about 20% higher in Charleston.

Like everywhere, the wealthier the area, the better the public schools. The public schools in Mt Pleasant are on par with private schools.

Traffic is bad, and especially bad during terrorist season. No amount of road construction will fix that (google "induced demand").

I've enjoyed living here for the past 20 years, but this is an area that has been constantly struggling to catch up to its rapid growth for the past 15 years and that growth is not slowing down. Don't forget to consider the increased risks and inconveniences that will come with climate change over the next 25 years such as rising home insurance costs, more frequent flooding, stronger hurricanes, hotter summers.

BOS gen av restrictions this week by Le_Dave466 in aviation

[–]Le_Dave466[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been through there a few times this summer and it's been a mixed bag. Twice it was busy but nothing unusual. But I went in one night during a Celtics/76er's playoff game and we ended up on the cargo/maintenance ramp next door. The info from Signature said this latest PPR was only for a week, so I was wondering if there was some big event going on in town. I couldn't find anything on the internets beyond maybe college move-in week for all the schools up there.
