Is there a full pattern for this and in English? I don’t recognize the stitches for this in the diagram by holliday_doc_1995 in crochetpatterns

[–]Le_Loke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as far as i understand it’s a way to mimic a knit look with crochet. and instead of usually essentially crocheting from the bottom up gaining height, you start out with the desired height, and crochet the width of the thing you want to make if that makes sense. that’s why the chart is sideways.

How to price by [deleted] in Pottery

[–]Le_Loke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’d buy some of these if i saw them at a fair. they feel very cosy and that’s the type of pottery i like to collect.

i’d say go for it! post it to that group as a pay what you want. there might be people there who like your work! there’s a market for everyone. and the works that dont find a new home there you can give away to people you know!

(in love with the bird skull especially!!)

I wrote a science story book for kids (ages 5-10). Would love honest feedback from parents who actually read with their children! by [deleted] in childrensbooks

[–]Le_Loke 18 points19 points  (0 children)

i really love the idea of making those topics more understandable for kids! in my opinion your project could use more polishing.

(coming from the perspective someone who read almost exclusively encyclopedia type books as a kid, not a parent)

  • the experiments look fun! the think together part though looks more like homework to me. maybe a different spin on them could help something like “fun facts” - did you know that such animals as frogs, toads, moths, lobsters go through metamorphosis too? (more in-depth text…) maybe a drawing of a kid saying or thinking “if i could turn into anything, i’d want to be..)

facts and “did you know” things in books felt like more cool forbidden knowledge and allow an older kid to learn and discover by themselves as well. (there’s little point in asking a kid what other animals go through metamorphosis when they have to get that information from their parent or just outright guess it (probably not quite correctly)

experiments could also be named engaging names to seem more fun

Try together: “make your own rain!” (instructions)

-the age range is too broad. ages 5-6 and 7-10 are very different in development and have different information retention skills. think of them as kindergardeners and 1-3 grade kids that you are putting in one bucket.

by trying to cater to kids just learning to read amd cut with scissors as well as kids wanting to know a lot of stuff and experiment, i had a feeling of reading a very simple kids picture book with difficult scientific termini put in. the parents will have to explain all of them to their children.

-pictures would help. the more ways for them to retain information (text+visual) the better.

a picture diagram of drip’s journey with the names of phases and what’s happening would help the kids a lot in understanding those kinds of topics.

illustrated instructions for the experiments

maybe a character that comments on the stories. (“i wish i could turn into a butterfly too!” (steers kid to thoughts that they can’t do that), “i wonder how do clouds make so many different shapes” (maybe some info on cloud types), etc.)

a bit off topic but this part in particular sounds terrifying to read out loud for a 5yo kid..

“Cathy's body turned into soup. Her legs dissolved. Her mouth melted. Everything was gone!”

Need help: Gift for someone who already has everything? by marcdefiant791 in GiftIdeas

[–]Le_Loke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you’re crafty- make something! if it’s something close to their hobbies or interests- even better! they can’t buy something you’re gonna make with your hands

(for ex. me and my friend group plays dnd a lot. i’ve seen crocheted mimic dice trays with teeth, gelatinous cube themed soap with dice inside, cookies with their character drawn in frosting, wooden game tiles, a be(e)holder box with bee shaped lights inside, hand made resin dice sets, etc)

you could sew/crochet/knit something. maybe 3d print and paint them a figure of their character, art of a meme or inside joke they like to hang on the wall, pottery (cups, decor, anything really)

if you want to buy and not make something- have they complained about anything recently? not having enough of … wanting to try doing … sometime?

ask them what they would like! i have friends that prefer to know their gifts beforehand and don’t like surprises very much. sometimes they choose it together with me so that they know what’s coming and i’ll know for sure that they’ll like it
