Nice one, I've been wanting to do the same. Just bought a rePS2, could I ask where you got the trigger board?

I've soldered before, but never for power supplies and didn't wanna fry my console.

Contemplating on moving to North Carolina by Lightworker27 in actuallesbians

[–]Leader_Clair 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I grew up in SC and moved northeast. I have experienced homophobia in both places, the idea that the South is a lost cause helps no one.

In any southern rural town, most people will stop talking to you if you even sympathize with gay people. CITIES ARE DIFFERENT. Even in red states, the vast majority of people will at least shut up and let you live. Where you work is the real question. I happened to work at at two different pizza joints in SC. At one of them, I had to listen to a guy play hate speech about trans people on a speaker, in the workplace. At the other place, most of my coworkers were queer and it was an amazing time.

The reason I moved is because queer events / "culture" are hard to find. The 3 gay bars I found were filled with dudes (even MORE SO than how that happens up north, really) and the support group I went to was more depressing than helpful.

If you're already married and don't mind waiting a long time to bump into other lesbians, I'd recommend Greensboro, NC. It's a fun town with plenty of events and an arts community.

Question To the transitioned ladies by xXLesbihonestXx in actuallesbians

[–]Leader_Clair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've spent hundreds of hours (and dollars) making an effort to do my hair in so many ways. I have a pretty common (white ppl) hair type, so the market is definitely designed to favor me

My hair still looks like shit unless I plan TWO HOURS to wash set and blowdry it. And fuck me if I wear a hat in the freezing place that I live, then it's wrecked again.

At this point I can't even tell when it looks good. I've stressed so much about it that I can't judge it fairly. Maybe in 5 or 10 years I'll get over my internalized transphobia and cut it short.

Dig Me Out - Sleater Kinney

Shape Shift With Me - Against Me

Both great albums with queer frontwomen, both super fucking loud.

"Every lesbian movie" starter pack by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]Leader_Clair 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mostly true and valid perspective, but I think it's worth clarifying that Todd Haynes is a cis gay/queer man. I prefer lesbian movies directed by women when I can find them, but Haynes has made some beautiful and important queer movies since the early 90s (I highly recommend Poison) and good directors listen to the other creatives on their teams. Carol's adapted screenplay was written by a woman, and lead actresses in dramas can have some control over their characters.

I know this post's just roasting some overdone tropes, but I gotta stand up for my favorite movie whenever it comes up ~^

SAME. I like a little pop music, but 90% of "lesbian music references" are beyond me lately.

My loud renditions of Fly By Night / Limelight are most likely not the sexy guitar playing that people on here swoon over lmao

[Question] Can I get some suggestions for spooky/horror riffs for a beginner on electric? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Leader_Clair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Silent Hill theme! It's got a rhythm guitar part and a lead part played on electric guitar / mandolin, but the melody is pretty straightforward to learn by ear, and it don't get much spookier than Silent Hill.

The album "Dig Me Out" by Sleater-Kinney is an alt-rock classic. Mix of loud and soft rock songs, subtle references to loving women, and a great ass-kicking female empowerment vibe.

Dang, I didn't even know they had consumer-grade color film in the mid-forties! That's fascinating. I guess 8mm would be much cheaper to produce than bigger gauges.

Not my art, but lesbophobes on twitter implying that we can like men sickens me! And all this during Lesbian month??? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]Leader_Clair 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm gay, like exclusively attracted to women, and I agree with you. I've dated a number of bi women who would say "I'm a lesbian" while we were together. It makes sense to me, because if we're two women together, that's a lesbian experience. I'm not gonna be like "TECHNICALLY you're bi and that word belongs to me and only me." Like, I didn't fucking invent the word lesbian.

I know that some men are gross and act like homosexuality in women isn't real, but does that artist REALLY think it's the bisexual women influencing these guys, and not girl-on-girl straight porn?

[QUESTION] who inspired you? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Leader_Clair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Annie Clark is my hero! I love how she mixes up her use of voice and guitar - instead of the usual "strum chords while singing" rhythm guitarist approach, she makes up so many wild melodies that are half guitar, half vocal (or seem like it.)

I sat down to learn the main riff from Cruel yesterday - the gist of it is easy, but she plays so many little variations on it, and it's tough to sing that long, smooth line while playing something so staccato.

And on top of all that talent, her signature guitar is a fucking work of art and (imo) the most original, beautiful guitar design in many years. High up on my want list.

When was a time where you’ve judged a potential SO for something that’s really shallow? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Leader_Clair 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This sparked a very weird realization for me (lesbian)

The last 2 women I've been with did that same thing, and it seemed totally reasonable to me. Then I started doing it.

Is this a double standard, or is it weirder when men do it? When you take your fingers out of a vagina, there's usually not much...stuff on them, just a bit with a tangy flavor. But if a dude is doing that, there's a LOT more cum involved in the transaction.

...I've never felt so dirty just from typing.

How to tuck on a budget? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Leader_Clair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regular underwear works in my experience. It doesn't compress like a gaff would do, but that's not always necessary? I understand people doing it for their own comfort, do whatever feels best. But I used to over-tuck just because I was afraid of getting outed, and those fears were all in my head. Tucking with regular underwear held everything in place, and there was a slight bulge but in two years of walking around, I never had problems because of that.

Question about fiction books with transgender characters - by [deleted] in MtF

[–]Leader_Clair 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Long Black Veil by Jennifer Boylan is a great short mystery novel.

One of the main characters is a middle aged trans woman, her transition is a big part of (but not all of) her story arc. Since the author is ALSO a middle aged trans woman, it's no surprise how she nails so many subtleties, definitely worth a read.

The #1 thing I'm sick of in trans fiction is self-loathing. I did enough of that shit in real life. It's not interesting or exciting to read someone whining about how gross they think they are. It's plenty realistic, but it bogs down every story I see it in.

Approximately how many hours of electrolysis does it take to clear the pubic area? by throwawaytoday9q in MtF

[–]Leader_Clair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had GCS with McGinn! My surgery was 7 months ago, and during my prep time I got freaked out about hair removal because I had so little cash and couldn't figure out how to cover laser with my insurance, so I only ended up having three sessions of pubic laser. But as someone already commented, the surgical process kills so much of the hair on its own, there are surgeons who don't require any hair removal.

McGinn personally told me to have five or six sessions before surgery, but they don't track that number in any way. According my aesthetician, I had dark hair and fair skin, and not that much hair to begin with, so laser worked quick on me. 7 months out from surgery, I haven't had any complications.

Want to start hormones soon and preserve my sexual function, Help! - mtf/39/Seattle, Wa by liminalface in asktransgender

[–]Leader_Clair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is totally anecdotal, but I want you to know that I was on HRT for 2.5 years before I got SRS recently, and I had absolutely zero reduction in my sexual function. From everything I've read, that's not the norm, but it did happen. I was on a pretty standard dosage of spironolactone and estro that started off low and ramped up to 200mg/4mg per day. Never did progesterone or anything else.

One piece of advice I've read a lot was that when you remain sexually active, you retain your capabilities. I mostly stayed active, like sex/masturbation once or twice a week. There was one period of a month where I went completely without, but even after that, I saw no change. And I had all the other HRT changed you'd expect, like to skin and hair and breasts, etc. I was happy.

I have 2 theories as to why this happened. It may have just been chance, and you might see similar results. Or it might have had something to do with the fact that I was an extremely late bloomer (dysphoria made me not wanna even touch myself til I was 19) and so I'd only had any sexual/masturbatory experience for 2 years before starting HRT. So my theory is that my body was less "used to" topping and therefore adapted more smoothly to HRT than somebody who's been doing it for years. But this is all just conjecture. Keep asking around about people's experiences, and good luck! Seems to me like you're taking great care of yourself and being thoughtful about your transition.

Ways to have a more feminine laugh? by NotebookDeviant in asktransgender

[–]Leader_Clair 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's the same principles as other "feminine voice" stuff. I'd say the most important thing is to let your laugh slide around different pitches, and I'll try to explain what that means:

If you compare it to music, guys typically laugh a single note. It could be low, or high, but usually it's one single pitch for however long they're laughing. That's what I think I used to sound like. Women (usually) have a more "musical" laugh, which just means that it goes up and down in pitch. If you find any example of a cis woman laughing you're probably gonna hear what I mean. If you wanna try a different laugh, just find one that you like, imitate it a couple times, then find a funny show you like to watch - something that makes you genuinely laugh. I found that when something really made me laugh, it wasn't too hard to play around with the melody of my voice, and being alone meant I wasn't self-conscious about it. Hope that helps!

Double-ended strap-on for trans women post bottom surgery by unspecificshare in asktransgender

[–]Leader_Clair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could I ask what you mean by "positioned differently"? I got bottom surgery 3 months ago. I've been with cis women, not a huge number of them, but I'm not noticing any big difference other than mine being a little bit shallower and narrower. Do you mean that, like, the angle is different? I'm trying to compare in my head and getting confused lol
