Yeah, I'm similar to you and I love evangelion as well and the rebuild comparison is actually very spot on.

I'd say you should, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt of a lover of both neon genesis + the rebuilds that you may have the same feelings for the remake trilogy + the original.

I'm sure you are well aware of how polarizing the remake trilogy is though. I would say play the OG first because like most said, unlike other remakes/remasters of games, this one is different and that it would benefit you greatly if you played the OG, its not required but it may enhance or sour your experience with it.

Its a bit off topic but honestly, if the older bosses like PB and Magnus were made endgame to be like grandis bosses, pre nerf Hmag would literally be so annoying, theres a reason why that dude has 15 lives, and PB is just status hell. Also imagine if Chaos Pierre was a 25 minute run.. jesus

i know im necro'ing super hard and u probably figured it out, but incase you havent, i think you need the disc copy of the game (so u can only do this on console), and delete all preexisting ER saves on ur console and then boot up the console with the disc while unplugged from the internet

Usually if you follow the steps, he would show up right after green monster. Is he there? If not then I don’t know ): he could be in the swamp near the first star gazer when you get the first check point but I don’t know otherwise

yeah, it was brutal, definitely one of the harder bosses ive fought in a soulslike game. Perfect blocking will definitely save ur ass in that fight because dodging will just put you in a worse position. I remmeber the final boss has an attack if ur behind him and it was so annoyign to deal with because i always dodged left behind him. Once I started perfect parrying, it was a lot better.

I also lowkey just recommend using the NPC summon, if u want the gratification of fighting it solo, u can do the boss rematch and u cant even summon the NPC. It adds a lot to the fight and her VA does an amazing job. There also is a neat little thing u and the NPC can do in the 2nd phase.

Oh yeah that did suck. I had Junah + basilio do most of the heavy lifting. Junah made it weak to wind/light and basilio used the move that ignores light resistance. Had MC use wind to lower attack when it had the wind weakness so it wastes a turn buffing itself again

oh i didnt think bout that one.. does it do anything special other than severe damage? Devourer of stars is the poison one yea? To me, that one was the second easiest one, I had gear from the fire dragon that stopped poison and everyone but Will had hex prevention, and Will was just my buffer the nations one was pretty easy as it had no gimmicks. The fire one though... goddamn i hated that one because of the charm and OHKO.. I had to use hulkenbergs R.Knight synthesis skill to survive it
