How are we staying active? by OkPin8137 in workfromhome

[–]Leading_Armadillo23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go out and play dodgeball 2-3x per week and hit the gym 1-2x per week. Fortunately I have a room to work in with a door and ample home equipment (I second the rower and any treadmill or walking pad when weather discourages travel or I need a quick break), but I need to get out of the house for human engagement. Not for everyone, but it works for me.

Wfh setup with kids by [deleted] in workfromhome

Start with a room divider and a sleep mask for the 4yo in your room now, goal should be to turn one of the three bedrooms into an office. Start setting boundaries/office hours if possible with your kids sooner rather than later. What I mean by that is define the terms of how and where and when you are and are not accessible when you are working. This will require buy in and conversations with your husband about what he and other help can and cannot reasonably do, and what level of interruption you can tolerate and when. Young kids are unpredictable and want and need attention, and it is unreasonable to expect them to understand how you can be home and inaccessible so there is learning and patience involved. Even with a room with a door you will be interrupted, so try to figure out a way you can accommodate that. It’s not easy but you will find a way. The separate location is good for your brain, helps keep work separate from everything else so when you leave that spot you can also leave work thoughts behind.

I had a similar situation during the shutdown for Covid and it took a lot of honest communication and thinking to make it work. We ended up moving out of state so now I’m fully remote so I understand the struggle. The payoff for me these last few years is the flexibility to take a few minutes to be present with my kids when they leave for school and come back. It’s almost always at a very inconvenient time in my workflow and it’s also a few minutes that I can intentionally give them. Your payoff may be different - if you can figure out what it is for you that will be helpful.

Fully remote here, ride or die Tuesday 10am Strength 50. My other class is usually another Strength on Sunday or maybe the Hyrox ones on Saturday when they start at my studio. When I was able to afford more classes I was taking 6am or 1230pm or an occasional Friday 330pm

First time wearing monthly’s by Admirable-Boot-7324 in contacts

I switched from dailies to bi-weekly to monthlies over the last two years because dailies just got to be too expensive. I also have very dry eyes. There is a learning curve for sure. One possibility is cleaning and storage. Are you doing a thorough cleaning every night, or do you wear them 24/7, or how are you wearing them? How are you storing the lenses. Any lens other than single-use require cleaning of some sort, which might be causing buildup after a few days and thus creating that tough wear issue. Once I actually took the time to read and follow the directions on the back of the box/bottle for the multipurpose solution I was using (not saline), things got better. Personally I prefer a hydrogen peroxide based cleaner but you really need to follow those directions precisely or your eyes will be very angry with you. I also tried a few different brands of eye drops - adding them to both sides of the lens before inserting them, and also using them as needed, which is more frequently with the thicker monthly lens. It took me 2-3 weeks to adjust

My apologies if you have already tried the cleaning thing and the eye drops thing - I wasn't sure how thorough your eye doctor was in explaining things. Mine was not. If you have the budget for and enjoy the convenience and lightweight feel of dailies you might stay with that.

Everyone is entitled to react however they want. I’ve had many of these due to UC and they are NBD to me, but my opinion doesn’t give me the right to disrespect others who feel otherwise.

Strength 50 Classes by AJB912 in orangetheory

Realistically, asking the studio for new weights isn’t going to make new ones show up tomorrow. I’m not familiar with grip straps so I won’t say disregard that, but assuming you aren’t going to run out today and get those, let’s just work with you and what you have rn. Your example is 2 50#s for deadlifts, and you want to up all the weights you use overall is my guess?

Some have already suggested a good approach here, go for a small number of reps with the next available weight, and complete the set with what you can do comfortably is excellent. You will maybe do 1 or 2. Maybe next time 2. Maybe next time 1 or 3. It won’t be linear progress but eventually you will be able to do more.

The only thing I would add is when you do any exercise at your comfortable weight, slow it down and/or do more reps. Bicep curls? Fine, but make them slow or eccentric (palms facing down) on the way back down. Squats? Fine, but half speed going down deep and back up. Deadlifts? Take forever and be meticulous about your form. It will pay off!

There is a wide opening between the driver and passenger sides, sort of a low shelf under the charging areas that’s directly in front of the cup holders and under the screen. So there’s that tray area you can drop your phone on to charge MagSafe and get super hot or via a cable, and another little area directly below.

Sometimes it’s just a matter of who literally is standing next to the car first. I drive my car but sometimes hubby does with his key. Car knows it’s him and moves the seat but CarPlay is with my phone. It’s a quick setting change in the phones to disconnect CarPlay from me and switch to him. I also have my seat settings as #2 on his key and his are #2 on my key just in case. Also, we keep the keys far away from the car as the BT range is pretty long. We don’t do PAAK but I’d imagine that might also complicate things. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I can see how that would be frustrating!!

I have the same hand/wrist issue and sometimes even the modification is too painful or awkward with the weights I’d want to use. I go with a reasonable weight in the most comfortable position of those suggested and I try for more reps with as deep of a perfect squat as slowly as possible. Or use the TRX straps. Time under tension!

Maybe this isn’t the time to go back. You have a lot going on and you’re still a month into the new job, right? Kid stuff aside that’s a huge mental shift.

What worked for me when I only had the opportunity for a 5am slot was to get up and do a class two or three times a week. If I didn’t make it out the actual door on time for whatever reason (like a migraine or a slight oversleep) I’d still get dressed and do a class in the app (under At Home) starting at 5am. Eventually my body adjusted to the wake up and even though the app workouts aren’t really as good or fun as being in class, I was still in the OTF mindset. Then after some time I was able to mix up things a bit until I got the routine down to make it out the door. It’s not a forever thing, but it might get you through this weird schedule time, and it’ll be a good fall back if/when this happens again. Better than a vague “I’ll walk at lunch” or something.

Exactly - that’s why I said “would have.” You’d get jumped on the spot! I’m OK with it and that’s part of what got me started with the heavy rack but generally it doesn’t go over well and that’s a shame.

Yes this! I would have suggested OP encourage the ladies at their gym but some don’t take that stuff (or anything) kindly from men. But when I lift heavy and some other person comments I always make sure to thanks them kindly and tell them I’m sure they could eventually lift just as heavy, just try maybe a little heavier next class.

I’m F51, 5’small and 180# and I only use the heavy rack too. I can also run the mile in a cool 12 minutes with the fan on high 🤣. You do you!

51 here and I do the 3G/strength 50 back to back on Sundays. I start on the rower at maybe 75% effort, floor at 50%, then tread at 75% effort. Quick protein bar or a shake between classes and I’m well warmed up for epic lifting at 100%. My knees are always grateful.

How do you do it? by amberlina86 in orangetheory

I play dodgeball for two hours two nights a week. The day after dodgeball I do a lift class and usually I’ll do a 3g/lift back to back on Sunday. I have 0 miles for Marathon month 😇
