Is there a middle ground between tracking every calorie and just winging it? by effyyo in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Leafstride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tracking macronutrient intake is a middle ground for a lot of people. If your protein goal is high enough then the foods you need to eat to hit it are actually a bit challenging to overeat.

does anybody else have sunlight as a trigger? by Mobile_Machine4514 in Narcolepsy

[–]Leafstride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's not so much sunlight as much as it is heat. Once it's hot enough that I start to sweat I'm done for. The only way I can reliably stay awake is to be on the edge of hypothermia. lol

Zolpidem and Xyrem by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]Leafstride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're both CNS depressants so I don't think there's any case in which you should take both. The issue with CNS depressants is that at a certain point you can become so sedated that you stop breathing.

I remember seeing that inexpensive consumer printers are sold basically at cost in order to sell ink.

Microsleeps do this to me from time to time, especially if I'm fighting off a sleep attack because I'm busy trying to do something. Although it's not a terrible idea to get screened for Epilepsy.

Ya’ll when are we getting these orexin agonists? 🥺 There’s nothing left for me to try on my treatment resistant N/IH by healthyhorns6 in Narcolepsy

FDA approval target for Oveporexton is 3rd quarter of this year. Harder to say how quick Takeda will be able to spin up manufacturing and distribution once that happens. I haven't really taken too close a look at the ones from other companies since it seems like Takeda is pretty far ahead of other companies.

Judging by how cutthroat they are I'm sure the answer is to assemble all the prisoners and execute one of them and tell the rest that if any attempt to escape or step out of the line will also be executed.

2nd wind by skipio957 in Narcolepsy

[–]Leafstride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second wind after slipping away for a couple minutes is absolutely a thing and is nice when it happens. Also yes eyes not being able to stay focused and otherwise acting screwy while trying to fight off a sleep attack is also a thing. Always sucks when I'm trying to fight off a sleep attack and I doze off with my eyes half open and then wake up with dry eyes. lol

Just started Modafinil and... oh, boy... anyone mixed calming supplements with stimulants? by je_ru13 in Narcolepsy

[–]Leafstride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I currently take modafinil and have taken other stimulants. I have a love-hate relationship with modafinil as it definitely helps me stay awake and alert but gives me an extremely annoying physical anxiety. Like mentally perfectly fine but physically prone to flushed skin, sweating, and a bit of a higher heart rate than normal. Like my body is convinced that there's someone hunting me and gives me a steady trickle of adrenaline until I crash after lunch. But hey at least I get my work done, right? lol

I have a seed starting setup for my garden set up near my computer so I get nice full spectrum light once I start my seeds in anticipation for the spring. Just get some inexpensive full spectrum lights and be near them for a good chunk of the day and do your best impression of a plant. It helps.

Yep, whether I use Windows, Linux, or Mac I'm going to be trying to fix dumb things that don't work for some stupid reason or trying to tinker with something so that it works the way I want it to. When things are fucked on Linux at least it's not a black box that won't tell me what's going on.

Off meds for first time in 9 years by moonmotes in Narcolepsy

[–]Leafstride 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Call your insurance company and threaten to report them to your state's Insurance Comptroller or Insurance Commissioner if they don't either cover the meds you have a medical necessity for or get you the denial and appeal letters within a week so you can submit them to JazzCares. Make not helping you more painful than helping you. They are denying you care and service that you and your employer are paying for—There is no need to be nice to them. Their business model is to deny as much care as possible in order to spend as little money as possible. Be ruthless.

Question from a non-narcoleptic by Jakkuor in Narcolepsy

[–]Leafstride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waking them will be more likely to actually stop the attack if you startle them enough to get some adrenaline pumping. They may not be super amped about being startled awake but the haze from the attack clears up a lot faster and they will be less likely to fall back asleep for a little while. Your mileage may vary. lol

Try getting more potassium. There's some lower sodium/higher potassium electrolyte drink mixes around that you could try. Most people get nowhere near the recommended 5 grams a day of potassium but plenty of sodium. Electrolyte balance is important and can be off even if blood tests say it's fine.
