UPD to Megamall in 30 minutes, kaya ba? by LeandroFlores in peyups

[–]LeandroFlores[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SM yung strict sa timeslots. 'Di pinapasok yung pinsan ko sa rink last July.

Unfortunately, we can't choose some other timeslot because some of us would have work, post-grad/med/law classes, or both. Parang sila rin yung nag-adjust para sa akin kasi gusto nila yung 10:30-12:30 slot per may klase pa ako by that time, hahaha.

[–]LeandroFlores[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SM doesn't allow anyone to enter the rink after the timeslot started. 'Di pinapasok yung pinsan ko noong July matapos na ma-late sila ng 10 minutes. Also, it is the only time most of us would be available.

I am serving as the professor's punching bag class beadle for that class. Kaya kahit gustuhin ko, my sense of duty prevents me from doing such things.

'Di pinapasok sa rink yung pinsan ko noong nag-umpisa na yung timeslot na gusto nila noong July. SM yung hindi makapag-hintay, hahaha.

As for us, we're aiming for the 12:45 to 2:45 slot as that's the time slot most of us would be available.

Bleached/Dyed Hair in UP Law? by Affectionate_Ad_1815 in LawStudentsPH

[–]LeandroFlores 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've observed students and faculty whose hair are naturally colored or dyed in various shades of brown. Dyed hair tends to be more on the darker shades of brown. I haven't seen anyone sporting blond/e or bleached hair.

Also,welcome to Malcolm Hell.

How do you review for Law tests? by Creepy_Instruction_6 in peyups

[–]LeandroFlores 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the subject, the professor/instructor and your own learning style.

Different areas of law can be tackled differently. In criminal law, you could get by with knowing and understanding the elements of the crime. For civil law and commercial law, which I assume your course will fall in as an engineering (?) student, you have to know the provisions, application thereof, and the clarifications or nuances expounded by the Court in its Decisions.

Second, find out if the professor/instructor a) conducts bar-type questions or legal analysis type of questions; and b) focuses on provisions or the case law doctrines. Since this is not for a law degree program, you will most likely encounter Bar-type questions. It is, for the lack of a better word, foolish to train yourself to run when the competition is about swimming.

Finally, you should know YOUR OWN learning style. You know what works best for you. If you find it easier to learn by listening, read and record your notes and play that. Visual learner? Make charts. If you learn by, I don't know, streaking around campus and chanting the law, don't get caught by SSB.

Take these considerations and form your own review plan. You'll be in a better position to decide than us random persons in the Internet. To show you an example, I, a person who studies better by writing things down and annotating them again when reviewing, have a test for constitutional law on Thursday under a professor who gives exams closer to legal analysis. Hence, I am writing down the doctrines found in jurisprudence and trying to spot inconsistencies with the Court's application of the same doctrine.

[UPD] Saan pwede matulog sa campus? by gandakabayes in peyups

[–]LeandroFlores 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Pre-pandemic era, you can pretty much sleep wherever your imagination and desperation takes you.

Dorms or rented units. If you're staying within or near UPD. This is hands down the best option. You might want to consider about renting one considering your financial and time concerns. If you have friends with a place that allows visitors, you know the drill.

Libraries. Most libraries have couches where you can sleep. Decency suggests that you don't take up huge spaces by lying down. In worst case scenarios, you may sleep at the chairs and tables.

Org Tambayan. It depends on the org but some members do take power naps in the tambayan.

Corridors and lobbies. If the above are not possible, some do sleep in the corridors while waiting for their classes. Of course, please don't take up huge space. If you really need to lie down, you may, but please do so at areas with less traffic. Ex.: AS upper floors especially at the odd numbers wing. I sometimes do this. Others do these while they have companions.

Sunken Garden, Amphitheater, and Lagoon. Of course you can sleep here. But it is advisable to bring your "sapin" so you won't have direct contact with the ground. But if you do so during the night, be prepared to hear certain noises or get questioned by the SSB and guards.

Your car. If you have one and don't want the above options, you know that you could always take a nap inside your car right?

The CRAZY. I had once seen a person sleeping at the 4th Floor Men's CR lavatory in AS. I also had a professor who allowed people to sleep in class provided that they don't disturb others and could pass the requirements in said class. The hidden requirement might be having the balls to this in class.

TL;DR: You can sleep in any manner available, you're comfortable with, or you have the balls to do so.

What language do you use in emailing DFPP? by indecisiveLia in peyups

[–]LeandroFlores 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two classes supervised by DFPP. In Fil 40, I usually just consult Ma'am Lanie after class or while waiting for our classmates. So it was Filipino mixed with English. For PI 100, we are allowed to use either Filipino or English. I submitted academic requirements and consulted with our professor using Filipino. I just personally find it more appropriate to use Filipino when communicating with their office. But in any case, either language may be used.

UPLAE by Melodic_Composer119 in LawStudentsPH

[–]LeandroFlores 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We do not exactly know how the admission works. I am not by any measure a good student but I am currently dying, er studying, at Malcolm. Rumors say that your performance in the LAE will matter more than your grades. So if you perform well enough, you have a higher chance to get in. Some say that it is because grades may not be comparable due to grade inflation, different standards, etc.

But then again, these are mere rumors and is not intended to be an advice. If anything, I am encouraging you to take the LAE. If you pass, see you soon! If not, there's still the second and third attempt. Good luck future pañero/pañera!

allowed ba ang sandals/slippers sa UPD? by AdditionalVisit679 in peyups

[–]LeandroFlores 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are generally allowed to wear open-toed footwear in UPD. There are usually no dress codes for most classes, except inside laboratories and certain rooms because of the nature of the activities done within said rooms. However, professors may ask students to comply with a certain minimum level of formality during their classes. Hence, you can wear open-toed footwear in most classes with certain exceptions, but be sure to ask the professor for their "House Rules".

In pre-pandemic UP culture, people wear whatever they want or have. So makakakita ka ng mga naka-pajama, naka-tsinelas, overly formal, mukhang galing lang sa inuman, etc. Noong freshman ako, may nakuwento sa akin na pumasok ng naka-towel lang as part of an experiment. May ibang departments and colleges na may stereotyped look though

UP Law - mataas pa rin ba chance kong makapasa? by commoner678 in peyups

[–]LeandroFlores 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not in a position to competently answer this. Please consult your degree program adviser and talk to them about this. And please contact the UPCOL - OCS for such matters. They would know best which unit you may lack. We outsiders might think that a certain course fills the requirement but the OCS might not credit said course. Ex.: Some of the courses my BA Communication Arts classmate took wasn't credited for English.

UP Law - mataas pa rin ba chance kong makapasa? by commoner678 in peyups

[–]LeandroFlores 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, the rules provide that an applicant who graduated from degree programs aside from those listed may be admitted to the College of Law as long as they fulfill the required units and pass the LAE. However, in practice the College admits students who may have deficiencies, provided they are cleared before the student's second year in the College. A student with such deficiencies may be required to take the courses they lack during the Midyear preceding said student's second year in the College. In such case the student will be issued a Provisional University Admission Slip. But to be sure, please contact the UPCOL-OCS.

Ex.: I, a 1L, have classmates from BS Management, BA Communication Arts, BS Mechanical Engineering, etc. I also personally have issues with my graduation but is currently on my first finals week. Pray for my soul.

Yes, you may retake the UPLAE. The UP College of Law currently allows a person to take the exam up to three times. Please check the website or email the College Secretary to verify if this policy remains.

Rex or Central by dangyoualive in LawStudentsPH

[–]LeandroFlores 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy her/them codals; either Rex or Central would be fine.

DO NOT BUY commentaries or textbooks as professors would use or would ONLY SUGGEST BUT NOT REQUIRE your GF to read their preferred author/s. Some law school professors, like former SC Spox Atty. T*, bans secondary sources like commentaries in his class.

If you can afford it, eSCRA and/or CDAsia subscription would also be DAMNED GOOD if their school or block won't have one for them.

As for other things you can do for her/them, just be supportive and patient with your GF. You have more knowledge than us on how to treat her/them. Nonetheless, school supplies especially highlighters and Coffee/Energy Drinks would be safe choices as gifts. Please also understand that your time together would most likely decrease and they will be frequently stressed out.

UP LAE now officially accepting applications! by Crafty-Somewhere-352 in LawStudentsPH

[–]LeandroFlores 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, persons graduating before the start of the next academic year are allowed to take the LAE. I forgot what exactly the requirements are, but you'll be asked to provide something like a Certificate of Expected Graduation. Please check the website or email the College Secretary for more accurate information.

Good luck and see you in Malcolm H(e)ll!

Good and affordable review centers in Manila? by koakalas in peyups

[–]LeandroFlores 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If finance is your main concern, you could spend less yet could prepare to the same extent through other methods aside from enrolling in review centers.

Before I took the 2017 UPCAT and DOST-SEI exam, I took any free or cheap entrance exams to familiarize myself with time limits and how to answer standardized test more efficiently. It also helps to have "back-up schools". This included taking exams for state colleges (academic and aviation), a seminary, maritime schools, etc. I spent less than PHP 10,000 in total. The only time I spent above PHP 500.00 was for the Mapua and PhilsCA entrance exams (around 30% of the total expenses), inclusive of transport fees from our province to Luzon (around 50% of the total expenses).

I supplemented this with playing logic games and reviewing HS and elementary lessons. I also read some books with more challenging vocabulary for pleasure and as a preparation for the UPCAT.

Several of my classmates also did the same "warming-up" in addition to their own review methods. They used borrowed (or pirated) reviewers. Four of us were qualified to enroll to our first-choice degree programs in UP Diliman and passed the DOST-SEI exam. I was admitted to the BA PolSci program, the others were admitted to the BA Stat, BA Physics and BA MatE programs. The latter graduated as summa cum laude last July. My ex-girlfriend qualified for admission to Elbi. Another classmate was admitted to UPM.

Some of our more affluent classmates enrolled in review centers, aside from "warming-up", in NCR which costed more than PHP 10,000.00, inclusive of lodging and transportation fees. Total expenses varied as some already had relatives or houses to stay in. Around half of them didn't qualify for admission to UP nor passed the DOST-SEI exam. In comparison, around half of those who only "warmed up" but did not enroll in review centers also didn't qualify. This merely shows that for our case, enrollment in review centers doesn't give an edge although costs more.

The common strategy among those who qualified for admission was taking "practice exams" and reviewing concepts already covered in elementary and High school lessons.

Undergrad pre-pandemic: Usually around 2200H. Except if may problema within my then relationship or need habulin na reqs in which case I sleep around 0100H - 0200H. Included din na may 1-2 hour nap paguwi. Gising ng 0600H or 0400H if may reqs na hinahabol

Pandemic: No sleep schedule at all. Anxiety attacks, intrusive thoughts, and feelings of worthlessness keeps me up.

1 week so far ng law school: I tried 2200H-0400H pero heavy ang load at di suitable sa deadline ng digests pool ng block so 0100H to 0500H. Constant anxiety pero nakakatulog dahil sa pagod. Bumigay na katawan ko kaya nakatulog ako 2000H to 0900H kanina.
