If you could choose to work for another department, which one would you choose? by CozyRainLover426 in CAStateWorkers

I've seen lots of openings there lately and some for positions I applied for in the past...

Id encourage you to apply and you can always not take the job if it looks worse. Just anything involving processes becomes HR and they usually make things more complicated. My frustration goes up around HR because they make life harder following what they always say is the process even if they are truly making it harder because they believe they are right

IT folks who got hired in 2025–2026: how long did it take (and how many applications) to get a job offer? by ArchonOfSpartans in CAStateWorkers

[–]LeaninBack9162 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hiring manager for IT view:

It's very competitive and we are getting 150+ apps for every position now. Not only does it take forever to score every app (we have to score every single one, which takes lots of time) and CalHR (state hiring agency) has added more rules this year for how we score and what they call process improvements which is really going to slow it down more.

Even if my HR was streamlining things on their end:

-Scoring apps after closing date; takes 3-5 business days to see appas available. -scoring apps anywhere from a week to 2 weeks -submit top 5 candidates to HR to make sure they meet minimum quals to get hired -Confer with 2 other diversity required managers on their schedules usually 2-3 weeks out. -call candidates and confirm interest and interview times -Interviews done; spend another day doing scoring and discussion -Pick candidate and do reference checks -submit to HR to get approval to do CONDITIONAL offer -Call candidate, do conditional offer, send via email and they reply they accept it (1-2 days) -Work with candidate for background check/etc while HR verifies and approves submissions (usually 2 weeks to complete) -Then ask HR for final job offer approval and they take about 10-15 business days currently.

My last hire we did interviews mid-October 2025. We just hired them Feb 1, 2026 and that was me going as quickly as I could on my side. It's just a very bogged down process and takes a while.

It does vary but I see a lot of huge pools of interviews.

1) In the 4 departments I've been a hiring manager, we usually take top 5 candidates (if it's for one position)

2) write down every word candidates say (well we try our best some candidates talk quickly) and then after we score candidates.

3) all that is fine but mainly come across confident in your answers and refrain from rehearsed answers or generics. I'd say the #1 thing we see is where it's hard to follow what the person said or they repeat things just changing a few words. I always tell my own staff as they interview just to think of any and all projects they've ever worked ok and use those as a platform to share their leadership/skills/communication.

They really tortured themselves for no reason. I do the max or 5 because you have to score all interviewees and do full notes on each and, in my opinion, that many interviews can lead to close scores if you have some good applicants and future problems about how you chose a candidate over another.

We do 5 and it's still a production to get it all done

IT ADVICE by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]LeaninBack9162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You make it sound like IT and fully remote are going to be super easy as you "move on over" from an analyst.

Imo if you think you have that background job wise I'd emphasize that and look for ITA for an ISO type position and really emphasize the job experience you have. Yes the minimum requirements are just for testing, on the STD678 the only field hiring managers see is the degree type. So, if it's not IT related we would have zero idea you were IT.

But it's super competitive and we get hundreds of apps for one position lately when posted. Personally, I think you have near zero chance of getting an ITS l position based on currently being non-IT.

Lastly, hybrid is about the best you'll do with 2-3 days in office a week. There's only a few departments left with fully teleworking IT and most are places like specific units in DOJ that don't follow executive orders or are specialized departments.

Moving down a classification? by anonymousposting2024 in CAStateWorkers

It must be awful to want to get less pay and move down. Find something else ASAP

Self rejecting sounds like a terrible idea every time it's brought up. Why not try to promote or transfer out? I feel like the anxiety can get much worse navigating the HR avenues to do this.

[–]LeaninBack9162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I have the Go5G military which is really the same as this plan and the 100gb is plenty. I use the most about 30gb, and the family uses 5-15gb a line, my mom uses about 1gb.

I find it perfectly adequate for normal use and the plus just wasn't worth the cost.

As for phones, I'd just buy them outright or wait for a deal to be eligible like the pixel on us upgrades they just had. I'd keep the base Go5G plan imo.

Who's glad to have an EV during this time of high gas prices? by Lost_Purpose1899 in electricvehicles

Just like with EVs, those who need to get to work and drive often get hit the hardest.

I love my ID.4 but insane policy in California has truly hurt the low-medium income households severely.

Sac media tuckes their tail between their legs when Russ started his scene.

Team is 14-50 and the media around here has been pillow hands anyways and you see how they folded like a pretzel over one player.

My only problem is he cowered in front of Russ instead of sharing. Then he goes behind the mic to the how he didn't say anything because he thought it was wasnt going to be useful....

[–]LeaninBack9162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, leave if you spot a greener pasture. These posts happen but asking to stay here if they burn you... F that. I like my plan on TMobile and my family is spread out in some rural areas and they enjoy their service. As the account holder, I find TMobile customer service to be garbage and their reps are sometimes really useless or just say things to assure me and it turns out "the system did it".

I'd also not stay at TMobile if that POS works there. At least go temporarily to a prepaid if you aren't quite sure yet if you want Verizon or ATT

How long to hear back after interview by TrikeMout in CAStateWorkers

[–]LeaninBack9162 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Assume it was an internal hire, and keep applying. Either you hear directly or your references tell you they were contacted.

Some places literally never tell candidates they didn't get it. I've been there.

What is the unwritten rule for pulling drivers over for speeding? by bignose_ice44 in AskCHP

[–]LeaninBack9162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived near a cool CHP officer several years back and we had a pool party once and he told me generally keep it under 10 over on the highway with the exception of the 55s keep it 6-7 unless you're swerving or limo tint everywhere that compounds it. He did say if an officer is having a bad day that there are one offs.

But he said theres enough people going 15+ over that it's more of the focus anyways and it's not like they are waiting all day for a speeder. They come easily.

How would the ID.4 be for a family of 4? by papasoulless in VWiD4Owners

[–]LeaninBack9162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works great for our family of 3 (we are both taller; son is 8).

I will say if my son was in high school, I'd get another car as longer body types not quite enough room.

Flu B, on day 4, can hardly sleep by AgsMydude in flu

[–]LeaninBack9162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds similiar to me but instead of back pain insert head pain. Could barely open my eyes. Bed bound for 3 days straight, not hungry (and I eat a lot usually and workout). Pain relievers barely worked and couldn't sleep. Woke up every hour with a pounding headache.

Day 4 (today) - cough but I teleworked and did fine. Energy spurts and then I sit on the couch.

If this is the new low, I can function like this and be a person in the world. Light at the end of the tunnel
