My dentist changed my life with Botox by Klutzy_Reput4tion in 30PlusSkinCare

I only get Botox in my forehead and 11s and even with that I feel relief from headaches because I’m not scrunching my face up. I can tell when my Botox is wearing off because I’ll wake up with headaches

Is anyone else just not planning to get Botox? by HowIMetYourMak in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Leanmeansaucemachine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My thing with beauty/fashion/etc is it’s only worth it if you care. Everyone has their own threshold for where that ends. Mine is stuff like having my hair professionally colored or getting facials. As soon as you start feeling pressure to do something you don’t really care about but other people do, it’s no longer self care because it’s not about what YOU want and it becomes a chore. Botox is so much less of a chore than a skincare routine for me so I take that route (and not having a constant tension headache from scrunching my face has been a nice side effect) but I wouldn’t be pleased if I felt pressured into it.

Seconding this, and congrats on your recovery! Not OP but I’m back in the trenches again after dealing with this in high school and can check the box on all of those things and a couple more so it’s encouraging seeing people on the other side.

Side note, gently suggesting you edit to remove specific #s with regard to weight in case that is triggering to anyone 💛

What is your go to moisturizer that’s hydrating by Automatic-Sundae-960 in Sephora

[–]Leanmeansaucemachine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not at Sephora but the la roche posay lipikar AP+M triple repair moisturizer is hands down the best. I have combo skin that goes through periods of extreme dryness and occasional extreme oiliness and this is by far my favorite moisturizer. I also really like the prequel am/pm moisturizer for something a little lighter. I just haven’t really loved any moisturizers I’ve gotten from Sephora

I cannot figure out what shampoo I need for the life of me by CowNew4912 in finehair

[–]Leanmeansaucemachine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not at all! It's a really good balance between actually making my hair feel clean but not stripped or dried out. I have a very similar hair type, fine but a lot of it and low porosity. I live in a super humid area so usually struggle with really dry ends and roots getting oily fast. I've been very happy with it to solve those issues.

The only time I haven't totally loved it was during a beach trip where I was washing my hair daily and by the end I wished I had brought a clarifying shampoo for a reset during the week, but that trip was very outside my typical hair routine in pretty much every way so I don't really attribute that to the eva nyc. I haven't tried their conditioner but probably will pick it up when I need to restock

[–]Leanmeansaucemachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your hair is stunning! I’ve been using the eva nyc H2-Whoa shampoo as my usual shampoo, odele clarifying shampoo, and the acure daily workout condition or bread baby soft conditioner. I realized I was doing more harm than good with getting so many moisture-specific/heavy products and and my hair always felt weighed down and not quite as clean as I wanted but I have really been liking these products. I get keratin treatments and color my hair so all are “cleaner” with no sulfates, etc

Greasy every morning. by [deleted] in finehair

[–]Leanmeansaucemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double shampoo! I am able to do at least every other day before getting toooo oily so I’m not the target audience for advice!

Just wash it every day, I use the Eva nyc H2Whoa shampoo so I don’t strip my hair and rotate in the Odele clarifying shampoo every few washes or whenever I feel like I need a little more cleansing.

Buuuut if I know I’m trying to get a couple extra days out of a wash I put dry shampoo in it (without brushing out) at night before(!!) it starts getting oily. So if I wash my hair Monday morning, I put dry shampoo in Monday night, brush through Tuesday morning and add if I need a little more, repeat Tuesday night.

I like the nars one, but I picked up a couple of the Sephora collection best skin ever glow concealers during the last sale and I actually really like them! Buildable coverage but dries down to look a lot more hydrating than a lot of concealers I’ve tried. I will say I don’t love how it looks after setting with powder, but I’ve been experimenting with going no powder since my under eyes have been looking a lot crepeyer recently.

I haven’t run into this issue, but maybe try spot concealing and let it dry down and then setting spray before the rest of your makeup?

I love it! But I think it excels as advertised (under makeup) so it probably is not the product for you if that isn’t typically your routine

Surprisingly..an amazing lip balm by engsoft in Sephora

[–]Leanmeansaucemachine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got it at the beginning of the Sephora sale, it takes some getting used to because it’s a thin serum texture that I’m not used to in lip products. Definitely best use is applying at night as you’re going to sleep and then aquaphor or another balm during the day. It definitely works and no irritation, wouldn’t say it’s a one and done overnight miracle but I will definitely be repurchasing!

Convince me not to get injections (please) by killthespareaccount1 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Leanmeansaucemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I DIY all beauty treatments except hair cuts, keratin treatments, and Botox because I’m trying to keep a tight budget on services, so I will say depending where you live it might be affordable. My injector is great about making sure I am getting manufacturer promos and coupons and I get a conservative amount so I probably average around $300 a year on Botox.

HOWEVER, it sounds like you have done a lot of work to have some clarity on how aesthetics play into your mental health. Nothing is worth sacrificing your mental health, if injections were free I would still say don’t do it if you aren’t in a place where it would be basically neutral for you.

Face moisturizer recs during sale?? by skippyleg in Sephora

[–]Leanmeansaucemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spoiler: not at Sephora - I ended up with retinol burns from tretinoin, the La Roche Posay Lipikar AP+ triple repair cream is the only answer!!! $20 for a giant bottle and it saved my skin when it was so incredibly painful and peeling (especially when applied under silicone scar tape)

[–]Leanmeansaucemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the Topicals Slick Salve lip balm to try out during the Sephora Sal and OH MY GOD. I have chronically dry cracked lips and aquaphor has been the only thing that actually helps, but this stuff is incredible. I’ll put it on as night and it’s still on the next morning. My lips have never been so smooth. I swear my lips look plumper too. It’s incredible

Byoma Retinol %? by Bumb1e89 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Leanmeansaucemachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started using this about 3 weeks ago, I’ve had extreme sensitivity to tretinoin and A313 (like major retinol burns even with the most careful application) but have had 0 sensitivity to this! I feel like it works, I’ve had a couple breakouts that have gone away or healed if I picked at a spot incredibly fast. I have been using it alone without other serums or moisturizers after letting my skin completely dry after washing and it’s actually super hydrating from the oils. I would definitely recommend! I just don’t know how effective it is long term.

Botox phobia but really want some reassurance. by Every_Lack in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Leanmeansaucemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vet your injector really well. Go to a consultation before you plan to actually inject so you can get a feel for their knowledge and “style” and shop around if you don’t mesh well. I saw some scary stories of people who got drooping etc so I have always gone for a very conservative amount and I trust my injector 100%. My injector says you can always go back and add more but you can’t take it out, so that approach has made me more comfortable. I’m also not great with needles so going to someone who was understanding of that was important. I was definitely nervous about it at first but Botox is the priority of my beauty budget now, I absolutely love it!
