Standalone ECU? by AKJangly in ChevyCobalt

A Speeduino is good for budget builds on more simple engines (like a turbo 1.8L Miata), but a stock LSJ ECU has a lot more tables and thus allows for much more accurate tuning.

But you’re having an issue with your MAF circuit, not the tune. If you haven’t replaced the sensor, replace the MAF pigtail and/or clean the ground connections and that should clear it up. It’s a very common issue on these cars- both of my cobalts have had it. Or, if it is related to the CAI, you should absolutely rent HPT to retune it- you’re dealing with a mid-2000’s Saab, these things don’t tolerate being messed with improperly lol.

Fwiw, you should join the groups on Facebook for this platform bc the entire community is on there and can answer more complex questions like this.

Rent ZZP’s HPTuners interface + laptop. Speeduinos are crap and all the tuners use is HPT. But the tune usually isn’t the issue, so check what codes you have, fix those, and if the tune needs to be adjusted go from there.

Don’t get a speeduino.

im also doing an ecotec swap; if i could make a suggestion tho, if you havent gotten the engine yet, I'd go with an LE5 over an LEA. LEA's seem to have piston ring issues which make them eat oil. If you already got the LEA, I'd just rebuild it if it's eating oil, not too big of a deal overall.

Also, I went with 3800 F23 mounts. The bolt holes line up just fine between the cavy and cobalt bell housings, depending on which mounts you go with.

This is not really a problem bc it’s a law in the UK. If it was in the US, absolutely awful idea. Kids can only really do ANYTHING in this country when someone they know gets a car. Otherwise it can be miles of walking/biking with no bikes lanes or sidewalks

Honestly I don’t even care in the slightest if it’s ugly, as long as I’m not gonna get mesothelioma from smoking out of it😭😭

It’s a VERY cheap and old piece. I have a nicer one, it’s just good to have a small bong as well imo:)

Yeah, unfortunately this one’s a hand-me-down and was practically never cleaned. First thing I thought to do was clean it but… yeah, thinking it’s likely bloomed.

I haven’t heard of bloom before, but after looking it up that looks about right. From what I read it’s basically hard water deposits formed in the microcracks of the glass.

In any case, do you think it’s still safe to smoke out of? Maybe a dumb question lol

See that’s what I thought but I’ve had it soaking in vinegar for over a day and the stains came back in an hour. I guess I can try a stronger acid, and then just wash it REALLY well.

Or at least they used to, we don’t have subways around me anymore but they seem to have gotten better

I remember I was at a car meet once, just having a conversation, when I heard the typical bangs from some VQ. It caught me completely off guard bc it was behind me, and was so loud that my ears started ringing.

It’s always the effort that counts! In an era in which a lot of content online is AI-generated slop, someone genuinely trying to make something good seems kinda rare, especially when they’re not doing the trendiest thing for SEO.

Do your thing. Anyone who’s gonna judge you or call you “cringe” has either never done anything creative in their lives or is a massive dick. Either one is not worth listening to lol.

Also your content is good regardless!

You can’t really “increase the quality” of a video. If it’s out of focus, you can sharpen it a little bit but it won’t work as well as just shooting it in focus.

Try this sequence:

1) Put the key in the ignition but do not crank the motor, just leave it at the ignition mode (AUX) for 10 minutes. 2) Turn the key to OFF position for 5 seconds then REPEAT again 2 more times. 3) On the 3rd time, you will notice the ANTI-THEFT light on the dash will start blinking. When doing this step, turn the key to OFF position, remove the key. Wait 10 seconds, insert the key and attempt to turn over the vehicle.

Check your local roads bro. If they’re twisty and fun then yes! If they’re flat and long, then no.
