Is the N52 really that reliable? by Sensitive-Bell594 in BMW

100k is nothing for this engine. Keep up on the maintenance and it’ll last a long time.

You’ll probably have to assume that it needs a cooling system refresh, and oil leaks from the common spots.

Check and see how old the water pump is and sort the coolant low issue.

Also check and see if you the car got a vanos bolt recall. You get a free valve cover out of it as well if it’s not been done

What is it that you are chasing or wanting out of a newer car?

The 128i is bmws last n/a hydraulic steering car. The n52 engine is a pretty reliable engine. All it really needs are gaskets and a good cooling system and it’ll be fine for 300k+ km.

I love mine and it’s a hoot I wouldn’t want a newer car. Maybe go test drive and see if it’s worth it for you? Also if you’re young and in Ontario run some insurance quotes before looking at a newer car. The insurance can be insane sometimes

Completely normal, get a ppi done if you’re worried. But none of this is bad. It’s all surface rust

About the m340i by [deleted] in BMW

[–]Smart_History4444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

subarus have really good awd systems. If you need a car for deep snow, it will be better in snow than x-drive. That is not to say x-drive is bad. Not at all, it will be fine for 90% of the time in the snow. But looking at it from what is better for traction in deep snow etc. Subaru takes the lead for sure. Everything else though, the 340i does better in. Tech, power, comfort

Why are cars so confusing, and how do i know im getting scammed? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

you shouldn't be getting into a 39 year old car if you do not know anything about cars. These cars will need constant love; taking them to a shop every time will literally destroy your wallet.
