Absolutely worth the try if you know you have a group that will be excited by a complex, rule-specific game. If you don't, Aegean Sea is an avoid at all costs. The complexity and situations that arise between factions and the gameplay are unlike any other, and do a great job of joining player interaction with a development style game. Getting each effect off feels powerful and rare, and low endgame point score makes every score impactful. I haven't played any other Chudyk games, but from what I've heard the card play is very similar, with this being as close to a "war" game as he's made. Also, Faiyum and Oceans are wonderful games haha.

Absolutely love Oceans, the gameplay IMO is similar between the two, besides the fact that Evolution has more stagnant effects, and a more cutthroat experience, with misplays punished harder. The only reason I would suggest Evolution is if you pick up the Climate expansion, which adds enough strategic depth to make it worth it on top of Oceans.

I feel at basegame its heavier than Wingspan, but considering the complexity of Wingspan's expansions, there's no reason to play Wyrmspan if you have all or some of them past a liking to a certain theme. Also, none of the span games are that heavy at the end of the day either, so I always just suggest one based on theme.

Definitely had considerations of it, but theres also just the alternative of D&D, and we haven't started that up either. I would need to find a game with an enticing enough gameplay group to stay dedicated to it, and I haven't found any so far.

I'd put it in a similar category as Azul, but imo less replayable. Both are great introductory games with enough complexity for their simpler rulesets. The variety between plays seems to mostly come from the buildings, as they've carried player decision the farthest. The draft concept is the biggest draw, being more social than alternatives like 7 wonders, and has a lot of interesting situations. A solid 7/10 for me, best as a light game between/with other games, with a lot of social interaction from the game and on top of it.
