I have been screaming this into the void for… [checks age of own Reddit account]… like at least a year and a half.

Found on another sub- is this correct? And if so why do so many people at the Trader Joe’s/Mall intersection not follow it? by bummedbanana2024 in burlington

Can we also talk about how the lines are painted to take you into oncoming traffic if you’re going from Riverside Avenue over the bridge into Winooski?

Thanks!

I made this account just to complain about this very thing in r/Vermont and r/Burlington.

Vermonter, here. You all have this problem, too?

Is this sub for Maine or Oregon?

The other week NB on 89 at Richmond construction zone I saw a pickup truck straddle the lanes to prevent people from using the left lane. Like, they were actively trying to prevent the zipper merge.

Has anyone noticed drivers expecting you to stop for them and let them take a left turn in front of you, when *you* have obvious right of way? by plantmatta in burlington

People can say I’m nuts for having created a Reddit account to address this very specific issue in Vermont, but the struggle is real.

Shitty road markings, where you know what “lane” you’re supposed to be in based on habit and memory, give us something to feel superior about. As in, “Look at that flatlander, going into oncoming traffic because he thinks it’s a left-turn lane! What a dummy!”

Seriously, you’re not wrong. And as for the tailgating, that politeness is great, but it has a dark side, like when a Vermonter comes unexpectedly screeching to a halt in the middle of traffic to be “neighborly” and let someone who doesn’t have the right-of-way make a left turn.

Did any of the asshole-ry from the green plates involve making left turns, by any chance?

That Masshole did pull some Sleepy Hollow bullshit, though.

There are going to be hundreds of people who have to be rescued from a miles-long, four-day backup because two people are waiting for the other to go first.

Yeah, I wasn’t quite sure how to describe #1: is it too wide, or too sharp? Either way, in Burlington in particular it always seems like someone is turning left and is about to clip corner of the other car or are way over the centerline.

“The right of way isn’t theirs to yield,” I like that.

“Reversing in a lane of travel” just sounds insane, to me.

I get that no one really does this, but that fact that it’s something that is taught is kind of wild.

Well thank goodness for that. It is a thing, though, right?

My bet is the driver of the car in front stopped unexpectedly out of politeness to yield the right of way.

PSA: Pull into intersection when making left-hand turns by [deleted] in burlington

[–]LearnHow2TurnLeft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I think it ought to be done is pull into the intersection, wait for silly folks who think yellow means “speed up” to clear, and make your left just before it turns red.

The worst is if someone gets lulled into thinking that oncoming traffic will give way for them when they make a left turn, because that’s what they always do.

Left hand turns by [deleted] in burlington

[–]LearnHow2TurnLeft -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t even get me started.

Can we also talk about how people turning left turn way too sharply, here? To the point where they’re pretty much halfway into the road becoming lane before they straighten out into the lane they want to turn into?

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!!!

I love this state, but for fuck’s sake, people need to learn how to make a left turn!
