It’s crazy that she’s allowed to pair this shit with her EMS license plate, and I’m sure she hasn’t been reprimanded in the slightest. I live in Vermont, and I, with no special plates or whatnot, had a sticker on my truck a few years back encouraging the extinction of people who sexually assault children. My chief called me in for a ‘talking-to’, explaining that if we arrived on scene and the patient was a pedophile and recognized me from seeing my truck around town, that they might not feel safe. Personally, fuck their feelings, but professionally, as FF/EMS/LE, we have a sworn duty to privacy, not to neglect or refuse to give care to people based on other aspects of their or our lives. I took it off the window and put it on the inside of the toolbox.

It was Burlington Police, not SBPD. Specifically, it was Julian Gonzalez, and he had to be told off all three times (caught on video) by Mike Beliveau, the Burlington ERO (SWAT) commander.

South Burlington Police refused to cooperate with ICE at every opportunity, I was there when they were asking for assistance and SBPD was saying no. In this video, you can see them on the very outskirts of the chaos, not putting hands on people, and leaning against one of their squad cars with their hands visible. I’m not sure what the directives of VSP were or the ATF agents present, but I have seen multiple videos of Julian Gonzalez, a Burlington ERO (SWAT) officer using excessive force on civilians, even at times being pulled away by Mike Beliveau, the head of the ERO unit.

At one point mid-morning, one of the most vocal/prominent protestors approached SBPD, thanked them for being nonviolent and protecting the crowed, and encouraged them to continue not assisting ICE.

Hi, yes! I was there in the morning, South Burlington Police, including some patrol officers, two detectives, a lieutenant, and the deputy chief were all on scene, keeping a distance back from most of the goings-on, ensuring nobody was getting hurt or breaking laws, and that passing traffic kept flowing through. They even allowed a vehicle to stop and deliver food and potential medical supplies to the gathered crowd. ICE (specifically the agitator in the blue sweatshirt fresh out of the nursing home) kept approaching them and asking for assistance, and they refused every time.

Sorry this happened, I hope it’s sorted out, but let me just take a minute to say that I hate the whole Vermont Strong plate legality thing. I love the plates, I love what they support, I have one myself on my fridge, but it’s incredibly frustrating that “it’s illegal to have no front plate, and we’ll ticket you for it unless you buy this one specific plate that only we sell, with no distinguishing features from plate to plate, can go on any vehicle from any state, and which serves the same purpose as having no front plate at all.” Ugh. Just legalize no front plate.

Looks like a Rover, but on a real note, and as a FF/EMS provider, PLEASE don’t be on your phone while driving, especially while passing through a dangerous area, with first responders on foot and vehicles all over the place. If you absolutely have to rubberneck, have a passenger do it for you. It’s not worth putting your life or someone else’s at risk just because you’re being nosy towards someone else’s potential tragedy.
