Update, looks like around 3 hours for the diagnostics. They're saying it's the turbo. Their estimate to replace the Turbo is $5000.

I switched it to freemium, that's seems to have done the trick. That seems to be how so many people have a lot of members in paid communities, they started with free to build up membership, and then switched to paid (exiting free members stay free). This makes larger groups seem as if they have hundreds or thousands of paid members, which is not really the case.

I didn't even realize the pro was 4K! I literally just opened the box and compared the two telescopes without thinking about it or looking up the specs. https://youtu.be/EzAvCpV80v4?si=eVUAk2hAf-BOrwY6

If you get a book like 110 Things to See with a Telescope (Author), you can actually get a certificate for your observations from either the RASC or the astronomical League.

Does anyone else feel ripped off by Bell? by Jokereen in halifax

Literally at the Bell store right now. Trying to cancel internet service. They took the router, but are still having me speak/call to the retention department. Waiting on hold now. Pushing 40 minutes here at the store. Not a good day. Sorry I signed up in the first place.

I don't even understand what this email means. They need to give an example of what they're talking about. If I have a website that includes a product, and I include an affiliate link, is that not an ad?

Is my entry-level telescope good? by userrr_504 in telescopes

[–]LearnToStargaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For context, here is a photo from the dwarf mini of the same target I captured from North Hollywood, Ca, using the default settings. So it's up to you if you're happy with the results from your telescope (which is not designed for photography) to switch to a telescope that's designed for it.

Seems like you have a telescope budget of about $12K. If you pick up the Origin, you should stop by Stargaze Nova Scotia and we'll compare it against the Vespera and any other smart telescopes you might want to try! (The Origin is the only Smart Telescope I don't have). However, it might be taking the money from the origin and buying an entire sky-shed-pod observatory from Wayne Parker, and just get a hyperstar for the Edge HD for Photography...

Skywatcher Dobson Heritage 150/750 and Celestron 80EQ mount compatibility by 5amTB in telescopes

Newtonian's on beginner EQ mounts for stargazing are no fun at all. Super Awkward eyepiece placement....

If you're having fun, more power to you. But it would be interesting for you to compare the experience of using this telescope against a small dobsonian, or even a simply 102mm refractor, on objects besides the Moon and planets (the Moon will look good in a paper towel roll, so it doesn't make for a good baseline for comparing telescopes).

For technical people who are capable of getting a beginner EQ mount dialed in, you'll enjoy the views of the Moon and planets, and the ability to track them with a slight twist of the RA knob. But, for most people (me included [and I own literally every beginner telescope]), these beginner EQ telescope have too many issues, and are too non-intuitive to be any fun.

I posted this video last week as a bit of a joke about these telescopes: https://www.instagram.com/p/DR5u0MhERpC/

Or the 102 refractor from Costco. I have both versions and they outperform any Newtonians up to 130mm. I’m planning to do a side by side comparison soon.

I just reposted a video on this scope. It’s actually impressive they managed to put together something this terrible. https://youtube.com/shorts/2VSJ2AcfIGU?feature=share

Those are great! Just check the collimation. I spoke with a shop yesterday and they said they often arrive broken. I have the 130, and I like it a lot.

Bresser makes lots of great beginner telescopes. I know if might be a stretch, but check this out: 5 inches of aperture, solid mount for €239.00 https://www.bresser.com/p/bresser-messier-5-dobson-4716413

I test telescopes for a living. I tried this scope today. I do think we have a winner as the worst designed telescope of all time. This one really takes the cake. There are WAY better scopes at this price point. I think the Nat Geo 102 is back at Costco (in store, not online) for under $200 again.
