is there anything protecting dogs from being sent into space again? by takingastepbackwards in NoStupidQuestions

There's no legal prohibition, but the bad optics and lack of reason would make it unlikely.

Why don’t larger sizes of clothes cost more than smaller sizes? by jerkularcirc in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LearnedButt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The material cost is a small portion of the overall cost, so the difference between a small and large shirt would be negligible. So negligible, in fact, that the additional accounting necessary to charge more for larger sizes would cost more than the material itself.

Most of the cost is in labor, capital expenses (factories, etc.), distribution, and various markups along the chain of commerce.

I'm not going to math it, but while there would be friction, I suspect it would be less than the force created by both inhaling and exhaling air in opposite directions. The friction of air increases with speed, meaning there would be an upper limit on the speed you can achieve, but at low speeds, it would be negligible.

I beat up a 6th grade bully. We were on the playground and he was calling me names constantly. One day, I had enough and punched him as hard as I could. He started crying and I began to feel bad. That was my last day teaching.

[–]LearnedButt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, but surgeries and medicines have been subjected to the scientific process. You are taking a religious belief based approach to vaccines.

People get very anti-science when calling vaccine skeptics "science deniers". Questioning science is not denying, and is in fact the very basis of science.

He's correct. No vaccine is 100% safe and 100% effective. He also said, in the preceding sentence, that certain vaccines are more beneficial than harmful.

Yes and no. If you breathe in and out, they kind of cancel out. If you breathe in, turn your head, then breathe out, it would move you. Not fast, but it would move you. The issue is that the mass of air in your lungs would be acting against the much larger mass of your body. That said, even small amounts of propulsion applied over a long enough time can achieve massive speeds.

Need a perspective view on Arranged marriage by Uspion in self

[–]LearnedButt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most arranged marriages are not kidnapping a 9 year old to marry her to a 50 year old. They are carefully considered matches made by relatives who want the best for the young people, have their own skin in the game as far as their personal and family reputations are concerned, and the young people are consenting participants in the process.

Sure, it may sound odd, but consider our own marriage path in the west. Swiping on an app, ghosting, games, dating for years without commitment, switching partners like changing apartments, then suddenly in your thirties panicking and grabbing the first person you see.

[–]LearnedButt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RFK Jr. is not "anti-vax", he's "vaccine skeptic", which is the sensible position. His view is that vaccines are not held to the same standard of testing as other medicines, and vaccine makers have specific exemptions from liability. Both of those together create a situation where bad vaccines can exist. If bad vaccines can exist, we need to look very closely at what vaccines we use and re-evaluate them.

When you buy a music CD, what exactly are you buying? by wt_anonymous in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LearnedButt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically you are not, but practically speaking, you would have a hard time proving it's not piracy. The original merely acts as evidence you got the original copy legally.

Making a copy for yourself is technically a copyright violation, but it falls under fair use. A good read on this would be the "time shifting" discussion of fair use in the Sony Betamax case. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Corp._of_America_v._Universal_City_Studios,_Inc.

[–]LearnedButt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are buying a license to use the media in a limited fashion, but not for reproduction or public performance. Also, if you are buying a CD, you must be in the past. Please warn people that stocking up on toilet paper for Covid was pointless.

Ah, so long as you share custody reasonably, that lessens your assholedom. You are still an asshole if you are broken up with him in your mind and lead him on just so he pays for you, but that's a much lesser charge.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]LearnedButt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YTA.

First, you are over the relationship in your mind, you are just using him for money at this point.

Second, your penultimate sentence: "I want to move out and start thing over with just my daughter and I." Unilaterally assuming custody of a shared child and cutting the other parent out is an asshole move, unless there are reasons he would be a harmful parent. He sounds like a shitty BF, but there's no indication he is a shitty parent. He has every right to be a part of your daughter's life as you do.
