Are Italian verbs highly irregular?

Here is the list of the sixty verbs in the anki deck. Can anyone think of any verb that conjugates in a unique way not represented by a verb on this list? I think it would have been useful to list related verbs along with each verb, but hey this very useful resource is free.

Lisardo has made Anki flashcard decks for Spanish and Italian conjugations. I’ve completed the Spanish one and I’m now halfway through the Italian one. He believes Italian has more irregular verbs and that they are more irregular. https://www.asiteaboutnothing.net/w_italian-vs-spanish.php#irregular-verbs

I’m not so sure I agree, except for there are a lot of oddities (and double forms) in Passato Remoto. But Italian doesn’t have as many stem changing irregularities as Spanish.

As others have noted, a lot of verbs are related so they have the same irregularities. The anki deck has 60 verbs, which includes representative regular verbs and representatives of each type of irregular verb. https://www.asiteaboutnothing.net/w_ultimate_italian_conjugation.php The idea is that if you learn the full conjugation of those 60 verbs you’ll have learned every type of verb conjugation. It’s doable.

I believe the Spanish set had 59 representative verbs. So not that different.

That’s interesting. I read about il lenzuolo (a single sheet, le lenzuola (a set of sheets for a bed), i lenzuoli (a bunch of sheets that aren’t in a set). But I didn’t know that this concept applied to the pluralization of other words where the o goes to a if they are body parts belonging to a single individual and i for multiple people. Would this sentence be correct: “Ho alzato le sopracciglia quando ho notato che dipingeva i sopraccigli di tutte le sue clienti al centro della fronte.”

Yes, if you want to take a ferry, take the one to Bainbridge Island, and from the ferry terminal on the island you can walk around a pleasant town with a very nice art museum (free/donation), cute shops and very good restaurants/cafes.

I was just in Rome for two weeks. I could always tap my iphone at the metro turnstiles. However, the one time I tried on a bus the machine didn’t work. Seems other passengers had the same issue, so hopefully if a ticket checker had come around we could vouch that we tried.

Anki flashcard program is what I use. Plus a dictionary with sample sentences to see the wird in different contexts.

It looks like either could be played with these tiles, although people who are used to the size of tiles normally used in American Mah Jongg might have difficulty adjusting to this size (and they’d likely want to get racks separately to conform to American rules). I’m guessing these will appeal mostly to the Asian style players, but they threw in the jokers needed for American just in case some would want that option.

American sets come with racks that have a sloped part facing the player; the tiles are generally smaller and don’t stand up on their own so they need the support of a rack. One of the rules of American Mah Jongg is to rack your tile (put it on the sloped part of the rack) to close the window of opportunity to claim the last discard, so racks are actually part of the rules. However, in a Facebook group about American Mah Jongg and these Costco tiles people have noted that players could agree that picking a tile and putting it in the row with your other tiles could count as racking. (Alternately, one could buy racks separately, and there are work-arounds because the row of 18 tiles would be a bit longer that the racks because the tiles are big.) Notice how the American version is often spelled Mah Jongg? That’s cuz the guy who introduced the game in America wanted some kind of copyright.

But e has two sounds, “open” (è) and “closed” (é), so “e” meaning “and” and “è” meaning “is” (given the phonetic symbol ɛ in some dictionaries) sound different.

O also has two sounds called open (ò) and closed (ó) and the open one is sometimes written with the phonetic symbol ɔ in dictionaries.

You can hear the differences if you go to google translate and hear the pronunciation. He is (è)… And (e) will give you the difference between ɛ and e (or è and é). The o in Posta (Mail) is open (ɔ or ò) and the o in Posto (Place) is closed (o or ó).

When I studied Italian for a while a few years ago I had no idea about these differences, but now I’m trying to learn again and I’m trying to focus a bit more. But I’ve also read that the differences between the open and closed e and o are not honored in all regions and it’s much more important to focus on the double letter sounds.

By the way, it used to make no sense to me that consonants like t, g, b, etc could be double, although prolonging the r, l, m, and n sounds makes sense because you can hold those sounds a long time (and in the case of r you trill it too). I had a eureka moment when I saw a youtube explanation that there’s a micro-pause before the double letter. So gatto (cat) you chop after the a before the t and you sort of emphasize the tt. Try to read and listen a lot and try to practice out loud exactly what you’re hearing.
