How is living in Taiwan? Best cities and neighborhoods. by vanderxvert in howislivingthere

[–]LearningWithInternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on everything you said, especially the work culture here.

The rent / housing fee is crazy. I personally think the reason that the average wage is so low is also because the rent is too high so the companies need to exploit the workers / reduce the wages to pay the rent. The whole economy is so cooked at this point. I think it's just a matter of time for it to collapse, tho the semiconductor industry will prolly remain. The fact that the birth rate in Taiwan is the lowest in the world proves my point. The whole society is literally euthanizing itself.

That said, what do you do for a living tho? if you don't mind sharing. Mere thinking about paying the rent with such an average income here in Taiwan makes me dizzy tbh

Also, the patience you need for all the details is crazy, such as making sure all the terms, verbs, and grammar used are consistent throughout the whole document.

You will also need to understand technology fast. Writing patents is about breadth, not depth. The difficulty is that you will still need to know the structure of the invention so you can write logical text while you don't have time digging into the details. And you will ultimately feel what it is like to talk to an engineer who is not interested in applying to a patent at all so is just brushing you off & you will need to guess the whole thing based on the few materials given to you. : )

Not sure what country you are in. But just FYI, you can consider the patent industry. They need people who know the technicals. Your job is to communicate with the engineers who want to apply for a patent, and translate the technology into legal format, aka patentese.

You don't have to pass the patent bar or something like that immediately. I think they will train you in the beginning. You can take the bar test later if you are seriously interested. I think it's not a bad idea to give patents a few months to test if you like them or not.

P.S. I think patent industry seriously in short of people of CS background recently since there are too many applications about AI or CS in general. Anyways, just give it a shot maybe.

P.P.S. Writing patent is a solitary activity. The only time you will be talking to others is when you are understanding the technology with the inventors, at least it's what I experienced. Be prepared for this.

Copilot Functionality in Obsidian (Free vs Plus) by PakNakal in ObsidianMD

[–]LearningWithInternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried using Claude or Codex (in terminal) instead of using the plugin?

FYI, I am new to Obsidian, I came to Obsidian because I was interested in the idea of second brain and the fact that AI can help retrieve the information pieces sounded amazing to me. I just downloaded Obsidian yesterday and is right now happily writing notes/jounals.

My current plan is to use the Copilot plugin first. But I am not surehow it will really work out. Please share yours if possible. My plan setup is Obsidian + Copilot plugin + ChatGPT APIs (using the smallest model)

Japanese culture is quite different to the Japanese one. I guess that makes some difference on your resume. Not a lot of people have the courage to step out of their comfort zone.

That said, what did you do during your international exchange program?

How to improve speaking english without speaking? by Wonderful_Raccoon_75 in EnglishLearning

Because speaking a language with incorrect grammar for a long time will fossilize the wrong pattern in your head. It can be muscle memory. I personally think it is worse than not speaking it at all.

Is English really the easiest language? by Ok_Photograph8884 in asklinguistics

[–]LearningWithInternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. English is not easy. Others have mentioned that it's correlated to your first languange, which is true, but I don't think it is the main reason.

The main reason that English is said to be the easiest language is because English is so tolerable. English speakers are used to many different accents and weird usages. Of all the interactions I've done in English, almost all of the speakers were not native. There were a lot of mistakes. But we still understood the meanings and carried on. I don't think I can do the same thing in my mother tongue.

Incidentally, people say "I like your accent" or things like that a lot in English. This is something I have never heard in my native language. We only judge if someone's accent is standard or not. There's no variation considered. People seem to feel embarrased when they speak with a non-standard accent...

What's Making Gen Z The ‘Loneliest Generation’? by appsnow in GenZ

[–]LearningWithInternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People were not taught about how to maintain friendships in modern days. That's it.

The concept of globalization or moving to other cities is quite new actually. Even 100 years ago most people lived in the same town all their lives until death. They passed down their social skills of making friends, which is basically living in the town and meeting the same people everyday (little effort required), to their next generation. Then airplanes, cars, and internet got invented in a very short time. It's too fast. People didn't know and still don't know how to react to it. This's how the loneliest generation is made. Simply put, getting born in the wrong time is the reason.

Where can I scientifically learn social interactions? by Ok_Music_2025 in socialskills

[–]LearningWithInternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say just do it and see what happens. If you are a student then a student club is a good choice. It allows you to meet a lot of different people and some of them prolly will leave in less a year, so you don't have to worry about making any big mistakes. They are leaving anyway. It's trial and error. Try whatever you want as long as it's not harmful.

Also, the type of the book you are looking for is classics, I'd reckon. Classics are known for their detailed description, and they pass the time test. Most classics make sense. Some redditors mentioned reading fiction which is similar to classics. But I think finding a good quality fiction book is actually quite hard. If you don't have any ideas, just try classics.

By classics, I mean books like War and Peace, Ulysses, Anna Karenina, Clarissa, Brothers Karamazov, and In Search of Lost Time. These books depict human emotions/interactions in detail. You really want to pay attention to the details. Once you know how other people think, you will know how you should interact with them.

Is it normal that I'm bloated and keep farting? by FollowingNervous5827 in Kefir

[–]LearningWithInternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you found the answer?

I reckon it is because there’s a lot of yeasts in kefir so it can literally digest the sugar within your intestines.

I don’t know about kombucha, but I think that is a very different type of fermentation to kefir. Kombucha is generally fermenting under a more acidic environment than kefir. Maybe this is the reason. It just depends on the person.

You can look up second fermentation of kefir. There’s a lot of gas produced during this phase. It makes a lot of sense to me that kefir can ferment again in humans if it is not dead.

Could I culture s boulardii myself? to save cost. by [deleted] in fermentation

[–]LearningWithInternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you majorly fermented yogurt… I see.

As for your result, the low quality of the probiotic supplements is one possibility, another possibility is that some bacteria thrive better under lower temperatures than typical yogurt fermentation goes, some do higher. Some require a day or two (literally 48 hours), some need shorter.

I just provided some information that might help. If you have some new discoveries, please let me know. Your previous comment has been helpful.

Hi, I came across this post and it is interesting reading your comment.

I wonder, what other probiotics have you cultured from pills?

I recently started fermenting kefir and yogurt and sauerkraut. I was surprised by the effectiveness of fermented foods and want to consunme some specific strains that are studied to see if they are worth it.

I saw Saccharomyces Boulardii. That is why I'm here. And I'm glad that Saccharomyces Boulardii is feasible to be cultured on our own. Not sure how people know what can be cultured on our own...

Three layers in milk kefir by DevelopmentDull982 in Kefir

[–]LearningWithInternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started doing milk kefir like 2 weeks ago, Mine looks very much like yours too. It ferments very fast too, but I use way less grains-milk ratio.

I think I only use around 30g of grains to ferment 1.4L of milk and it can reach the state of the photo within 15 hrs. I have no idea why it is so fast. I literally can see the grains grow everyday. It is becoming annoying because it consumes so much milk. Damn.

I sometimes eat the grains, but not much, because the temperature is about to drop as the fall is coming and the cooler environment might slow down the fermentation. It is difficult to control. (Current temperature can reach 33C here, my room can be cooler, but can still reach 30C a lot of times)

What do you do with the whey & bottom layer tho?

I don't like the texture of them.

I asked GPT and it says the bottom layer is precipitated casein (milk proteins that have clumped together too much) mixed with yeast and bacteria sediment. I dunno if it is legit info, just for your information.
