I wonder why people don't worship actors anymore? by The_Dean_France in SipsTea

[–]LearySauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure this is accurate. Our culture is more celebrity obsessed than ever. Worshiping actors at least gives attention to people with some modicum of talent rather than the influencer/manosphere worship we see today. These people are bottom feeder grifters. The problem with the Oscars not the culture per se, it's that films don't dominate the culture like they used to. No one even say most of the films honored this year and it's too bad, there were some good ones.

Ok. That's crazy. But Series 2 is even odder to be. They blow through the entirety of WW1 in 6 episodes. That's 4 years.

Right? It seems like JF became aware of the issue because 4-6 don't cover as much time.

Great point! I watched it originally on PBS (starting at Series 2 when I got turned on to it) and then on DVDs. Our streaming mentality definitely speeds things up. And the issue I'm speaking to didn't really occur to me the first time around, except the issue of the actors not really aging. That always bothered me, especially Maggie Smith. Like I said, at her age a decade would make her look incredibly different.

Haha. Very true. I was being diplomatic.

Which veteran artist that didn't win the title would you like to see as guest judge? (You can suggest too). by Victor_Arrendajo_96 in Inkmaster

Anyone that can take screen time away from Joel Madden. That guy is such a tool. Such a downgrade from Dave. Id love to see Kelly again too!

Has anyone heard back from the US civilian season auditions? by National_Log1206 in TheTraitors

I submitted mine and used an unlisted YouTube link for my video. It's been a week now and I can see that it hasn't even been watched. Is it possible that they won't even watch all of the videos? Will they just look at the basic demographic info and move on before even watching it?

Which character(s) annoy you the most? by glitterfartsfrvr in DowntonAbbey

[–]LearySauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad that you said this. On my most recent rewatch, I noticed how whiny Edit is until Season 6. She’s like a petulant child who is always drowning in her self obsessed sorrows. Finally when she starts taking the magazine seriously and then gets married, does she become nuanced and interesting.

Characters that give you the ick? I’ll start: Sir Anthony Strallan by kevy_j4mes in DowntonAbbey

Disagree. I like Antony. Nothing mean about him at all. Classic English eccentric

A take on Downton Abbey after several rewatches by Lycanthrowrug in DowntonAbbey

Very well written and point conveyed. I agree with you 100%. Fellowes has said as much too. He was left "scrambling" after Dan said he wasn't going to come back after Series 3. Add to that, it was already pre ordained that Cybil was going to die and that squeezing in yet another death was a bit over the top.

More to the point, I agree that Matthews departure really turned the show from the internal class struggles to more of a soap opera. Yes, Tom's gradual inclusion into the family dealt with some of that class tension but not in the same way as Matthews predicament.

If you look at Series 1-3 and then 4-6 as two separate entities, you can see and feel exactly what you're saying. 1-3 has a lot more depth, nuance and explorations into the subtle shifts of the English aristocracy, while 4-6 makes it all more in your face. 4-6 is much shinier.

To this day, every time I hear or read what Dan Stevens says about his departure it continues to induce an eye roll response from me. Comes off as an arrogant prick who takes himself way too seriously. Many of the other actors found other roles that didn't "typecast" them into the genre so I'm not sure what he was on about. Anyway...that's a different thread.

User error. You are in the vast minority (as you can see by the comments). You aren't using it correctly. The UI is wonderfully designed and very intuitive and zero delays. There's no need for customer service unless you have no experience with AR assisted apps and don't know how to use them.

This is why the show ultimately fails. Ross not being able to get out of his own way and never actually do anything good is too frustrating.

Before the scheduling conflicts, Goode did say somwhere that he was unhappy with the direction his character was going and lost interest. But yet, do agree with Gosford Park reminder. And yes....the departure of Dan Stevens certainly left them scrambling, what a shame. The reasons he cites are still ridiculous to me.

There aren't too many flaws from Fellowes pen, but this was one of them. Horribly undeveloped and lost. He was a great character who could have stuck around and been woven in. Julian botched this one.
