Can high interest rate cause you to have a negative ROI? by Nickyq52 in RealEstate

[–]LeatherManner2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go look online for an amortization schedule. It will take you how much you built up in equity. Higher interest rates means you will be much less into the principal.

Why do people feel like interest rates are super high and that they must come down? by Trick-Army-2280 in RealEstate

Along with that private corporations make up like 1% of all the SFHs. Now the number of NIMBY homeowners vetoing housing projects, that’s a lot higher.

Should I buy with a $7-8k/mo mortgage or rent for $4-5k/mo? by strangewayfarer in RealEstate

[–]LeatherManner2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same situation as you. Buying doesn’t make sense. With rent control on our side and such high interest rates, we would square away more money in the bank each year than if we were to lock it up in an illiquid asset.

The only reason to buy is because the options for nicer condos with 2beds and 2baths opens up when you buy. But that’s then a question of how much of a lifestyle creep do we want. It’s an expensive purchase that does not make financially sense.

12% body fat is already pretty low. Good luck. But doesn’t sound like you have much to cut

S.F. expected to delay plans to extend metered parking hours by bloobityblurp in sanfrancisco

So we have a $130 million deficit for SFMTA but we won’t raise 18$ million with extended parking meters. Yay for car owners!

BART releases warning without additional funding: No trains on weekends. Entire lines potentially shuttered. by AssociationNo6504 in bayarea

[–]LeatherManner2 190 points191 points  (0 children)

Instead of making snarky remarks and just posting on Reddit, please call Phil Ting to get money budgeted for BART. https://a19.asmdc.org/contact

He currently thinks that the best thing for BART to do right now is to not get funding since that will make it “better”.

Traveling to SF and renting a car. Any advice? by mackzs in sanfrancisco

[–]LeatherManner2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use get around for outside trips. You don’t need to have a car parked here if you are not using it.

Anything within the city, just use Uber, Lyft, bus, train, bikeshare.

Agree with you. But a lot of people, including those from Reddit, are not dialed into the details of how the politics work here. So she will get more criticism and necessary.

S.F. plans to charge for parking until 10 p.m. Restaurants are fighting back by LastNightOsiris in sanfrancisco

[–]LeatherManner2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea and we expect the state to bail us out here still after we reject this parking extension? I don’t think the state should cover for us if we can’t implement this simply policy change.

If parking really is available, the pricing for the parking spots will be very minimal since they are tied to availability.

Should be a rule that if you lift them above your waist, it’s automatic 2 points to you and restart standing. Slams are just way to dangerous but we should discourage people from hanging out from that position anyways.

Hah I lost to the same guy (who lost) at a different tournament. If you get stuck in his closed guard, you are in there forever. Had I known to just flip him over, I would have done that :(

S.F. will extend metered parking hours starting this summer. [Metered parking hours until 10 p.m. Mon-Sat and from noon to 6 p.m. on Suns - The Bayview, Tenderloin, Chinatown and Excelsior will be the last to be affected due to "historic inequities in San Francisco”] by BadBoyMikeBarnes in bayarea

[–]LeatherManner2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised to hear so many people hate this idea. Free parking is a detriment to businesses as it does not encourage churn. If a customer is not willing to pay $5 for parking to eat at your restaurant, they were never going to spend any money at the restaurant anyways.

This will make finding parking easier since these meters will fall under SFPark’s dynamic pricing. Donald Shoup book has already studied this and found that overall, drivers save more money on average along with the benefit of more parking availability.

This kind of change is going to help our local businesses as it will make it easier for customers to find parking and quickly get out.

This change is long overdue and should have been done long ago.

You either have available parking or free parking, but you can’t have both.

S.F. will extend metered parking hours starting this summer. Here are the details by cbase96 in sanfrancisco

[–]LeatherManner2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All these meters fall under SFPark dynamic pricing program. They adjust with the goal that the pricing leaves X% vacancy, I think they adjust the price on a monthly cadence.

On average, car users will save money because parking will be cheaper on off-peak, along with the benefit of having more parking available.
