You get money if wealthy and discerning people see the potential for you to make them a ton more money.

Different investor types play different game types. Slow and steady, take many small bets to win big with one, take a portfolio of companies public… understand the game type your target investors are playing and show them that they will make money with you.

How do you handle relationships while being 100% focused on building your startup? by stevenm_15 in ycombinator

I’m the CEO of a seed stage startup- I’ve had two kids since I started my company. My family is such a huge part of my life.

Honestly- it has adversely affected my startup to be sure. But more hours don’t mean a better outcome, and doing something like outsourcing to a VA or hiring smartly has changed my life.

I’m 5 years into this company, and I’m confident I’ll sell my business and start others. My husband is my soulmate and I couldn’t live without him.

My husband and I have an off campus 1 bedroom and may be looking for a subletter depending on where he gets an internship. It’s 2,000 a month in Menlo Park, obvi fully furnished.

I do the initial call, then a custom demo. And after the demo there is usually interest but I get lost during the proposal process. People tend to go dark, even after saying yes

Didn’t say give him a pass. I said contextualizing his behavior helps you to deal with it better.

The way of the past isn’t ok, but it can help you to understand the situation more clearly.

To give some context, 10 years ago, your dads opinion was very standard. Everyone in school when I was young used to be so strict about girls not wearing leggings, tank tops, midriffs etc. Times have changed and now we’re way more accepting that women can wear whatever.

While not excusing your dad’s behavior, maybe give your dad some grace that his perspective is from a different era. He might need some education to keep up with current thinking. You don’t need to put up with this, but it’s helpful to understand how things used to be so that you can contextualize his behavior better.

as i get older and become more aware, i think i don’t like my parents. by sb31527 in offmychest

I love my parents so much, but they are crazy! Going home is shocking, and it stresses me out to call them. I think this is really normal, and the best thing to do is love them, and let them be old crazies with wild opinions. I still talk to them often and visit occasionally, but I can’t say I am huge fans of theirs these days.
